We celebrate on Christmas Eve too. This has been a tradition my whole life. On Christmas morning we cook a big breakfast and then spend the rest of the day enjoying our gifts, eating leftovers and being as lazy as we want !!

That's what I was thinking too. We had a small chimney fire in our first house ... we didn't know about creasote build-up in the flue, and that it could catch fire!

Tip: use a ball of newspaper to dry shrub the window of the fire place. It gets off all the 'flamedust'. Looks beautiful, you already made the house more beautiful.

I'm sure several people have said this, but make sure you clean your chimney once a year and don't burn pine in it. Pine coats the fireplace with tar and it will catch fire. I just helped a friend do cleanup on a house fire that started in her chimney. The fire burned half her house, the water ruined the rest. So excited to see all your renovations! Nice big kitchen!
Hey Noemi, maybe someone in the comments told you before, but I have a tip for you to clean the window of the fireplace easy and without chemical cleaners: take a towel or something, make it wet and dip the wet towel into the ashes of the fireplace. Then clear the window with that. Maybe you have to go on the window again just with warer at the end, but that works amazing!

Noemi, an easy way to clean the glass on the fireplace....crumble a piece of newspaper, small bit of water on it and then dab it in the ashes. Scrub the glass and wipe clean!! Works great!!

A little hint for you with the glass fire doors, scrunch up a bit of newspaper, dampen it a bit and dip it into the ash in the fireplace. Wipe the glass with that and they will come nice and clean easily. Works every time and is easy. Enjoy your new home!
Noemi I love your fireplace! An easy way to clean the inside of your fireplace room temperature glass window is to wet a paper towel with water, then dip it in used burnt wood ashes and rub it on, then wipe it off with a wet paper towel. I have been doing it for years at our cottage. It helps to get the dark smokey film off.
Helpful hint: to clean the inside of the fireplace glass doors: Use a damp cloth or paper towel and touch the cool ashes and use them to clean the glass! Then wipe off. Yes, it works really well !!! ( We heated with a Wood Buck stove for 36 years and it would really smoke up the glass doors.) So excited for your new home!!

I have one recommendation. To clean the fireplace glass ..do it with a wet paper towel and dip it in the ashes then scrub the glass you will see how easy it cleans .
another really good fire starter is to put lint from the dryer inside a toilet paper/ paper towel tube and then wrap the tube in newspaper like you are making a Christmas cracker or wrapping a piece of candy. looks like everyone had a fun time in the new house.
My brother has glass on his fire.He uses damp newspaper duped in ashes to clean it everyday. It works . Wishing you and family a wonder life in your new home☘️
Pine cones make great natural fire starters. Send the boys to look for them, the drier the better.
No paper needed to light the fire. As bad as my husband who has been known to start the fire with cooking spray🔥

A good way to clean the glass is use some of your spray with some of the ashes and newspaper. That will help get the residue off from the fire. Can’t wait to see what you do with all the house.
I just wanted to recommend that too. 😅😂 I find it best to use black and white print, something about the toner seems to help. Can't tell you why though.
Cleaning tip: use the ashes from your wood fire, to clean the glass doors. Take a bowl of ash and add water until it forms a paste. Dip a strong kitchen towel into the ash. Rub the glass with the ash in a circular motion and gradually the marks will start to go.
Wow! The fireplace looks fantastic! This home will have your stamp on it in no time. Based on the condition of the home you may want a chimney sweep to come check it and clean it.
Such fun to see your progress. We also have a wood-burning fire place insert with glass doors. The best thing, by far, for cleaning the glass is to slightly dampen newspaper and dip it in the ashes from your fire. Rub that on the glass -- it's miraculous how beautifully and easily it cleans. Hello Noemi! First, I wish you a happy new Year! Take a damp paper and dab it on the ash; you will rub the inside of the glass clean with it. Best way to clean. 😊
I see others have commented on the chimney, I still must comment. It is very important that you have the chimney camera inspected. Especially if it is not lined with stainless pipe. If it is terra cotta it can have hairline cracks. You can have chimney fires without even knowing. I have had fireplaces and wood stoves for 36 years. It will not create energy efficient heat without a blower, but is still a nice ambiance.
Also, easy way to clean the glass: dampen a piece of newspaper or paper towel and get some of the fireplace ashes on it. Rub and wipe the glass with
that. It won’t scratch and no need for any glass cleaner. Love your videos!

Hey Noemie, if you want a tip to wash your glasses for the fireplace....take a wet paper towel, and dip it in cold ashes...and wash your glasses...it will wash in no time and very easy!

Hello from Canada. That surprises me as I am from Hungarian/Norwegian descent and I have always celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve, even as a child. I didn't realize this was tradition from the countries my ancestors came from. =)
Oh yes, I am of Swedish decent, but born and raised in Wisconsin, USA, and we always celebrated Christmas Eve. Christmas morning was for seeing what was in our stockings and having a big turkey dinner later.

The fire ashes are good for the garden. Sprinkle a little bit here and there. That's what I do, and been doing it for more than 40 years. The plants love it.

If you put some of the fine Ash from the grate onto some damp paper towel you can use it to clean the glass. Works a treat. What a wonderful home you are creating. Its true what they say " home is where the heart is ". 😍❤🏘

We use a straight edge blade to first scrape off the window on our wood stove. It's much easier to clean it that way. Can't wait to see how the house is progressing.
That is the same laser game I gave my grandsons. It was perfect because my daughter has 4 boys age 12, 10, 9, and 5.

The best way to clean glass of fireplace is to put water ocer paper towel or special rag for that purpoise and then dip in the ashes. It cleans burnt glas and then clean rag to finish.

You already make a home from this house. It is magic ;o) I also have a fireplace with glas door and for cleaning it I take a wet cloth and buff it with some ashes and it clean the doors very well. Paint the inside of your cupboards with a couple of coats of white primer. It will lighten it up a lot and is cheap.
I clean the glass of the fireplace with a special liquid for those glasses and use a scraper of those to clean the ceramic hob. they are also cleaned using the ash itself with a cloth.

Hi congrats on your new home. The best way to clean the glass doors on the fireplace is to wet a rag, paper towels or even newspaper then dip it in the ashes scrub then wipe with clean cloth the glass will shine :) also get a Metal bucket for cleaning up ashes in case of hot embers.

Great that u have moved into ur forever home. Hope there’s lots of acres. Want to mention the fireplace, get a big can for the ashes when u clean out the fireplace. I use a large dog can or u could use an old popcorn can . Wanting to make sure no HOT coals get into cardboard or things that can catch on fire. I clean mine out every morning and set a fire for the evening or when it get cold. Wishing u all the happiness ur heart can hold.
