Remember the power of this kick comes from two places. The pivot of the non kicking foot and the centre of gravity. You don't pivot your back foot during the final step massively reducing the kicks power and speed. Secondly you centre of gravity should be between your back foot and the opponent. If it isn't the opponent can block the kick and you will just fall over. You're having to dip your head a long way down because you're kicking too high for your flexibility. Flexibility and forcing yourself to commit to the kick by moving your centre of gravity forwards will fix this kick.
This works in sparring all the time but you don’t need to jump forward with the side kick. because the opponent will almost always rush in the first time after seeing you out of position after missing the round kick, perfect time to launch a side kick
My sparring partner used this technique on me, I got knocked-backed because I didn't dodge nor block. I got to say this is an effective move to push your opponent out-of-bounds
It depends. The extra step is good for generating more power and closing distance on your opponent. If you throw the kick and they back away, you’d want to take that step. If they close in, you probably wouldn’t want to take that step.
Yah. Instead just wait for a second or two and probably your opponent moves forward then you can tgrow the side kick if they don't come forward just go for the extra step
@@dropthegame8620 agree. This is where the difference is. Either you jump forward to get closer to your opponent cuz got distance or you don't jump cuz he stayed paralyzed
Learn to do the jump offensively and defensively. Though you can through a snap kick (ap chagi) instead of round kick (dollyo chagi) for a faster combo. As the first kick is used to guage the distance and force the opponent to react. If the move backwards you can chase. The they come in you can hop backwards. 😉
The side kick being a defensive technique is often neglected but bruce lee used it similar to what you see here. It is devastating. Another similar and effective with even more potential to surprise is the snap kick.

😂. How’d it go ? I’ll probably try this in sparring aswell
It works as the first kick is a bait to get the opponent to jump back and kick from the side there
It has a high chance that it lands. But i prefer feint turning kick then spinning hook kick

In taekwondo which legs are you supposed to kick?right or left?

I am a 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and I would personally take out the extra step on the side kick it shows your open your about to kick

Tornado kick and then elbow smash is my fav because it’s fun and affective
This is great for running drills and reps for perfection. Could actually work on a weaker opponent in self defense if done with great speed.
I got alot of improvement from your videos.. Sir.. Salute
