Fun fact: In the book, the tunnel to the other mother was implied to be an eldritch entity that even the other mother was terrified of, and every time Coraline went through, she had an ever-increasing sense that it knew she was there.
Fun Fact: Mr. Bobinsky wears a medal awarded to the Liquidators of the Chernobyl Disaster, A.K.A. The 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the Soviet Union This explains why he is obsessed with beets because beets defend the body from radiation exposure Just amazes me how much effort they put into making and designing these characters
I didn't find Coraline creepy. When I watched it, I even had a nice sleep afterwards. Also, fun fact: apparently, the book it was based for was published because the publisher's daughter read it and didn't find it scary. However, years later, she confessed that she WAS scared by the book, but she had to know how the story ended, so she lied.
When I saw Coraline as a little kid it scared me so much that I couldn't sleep for like 5 months because I kept seeing the other mother in my nightmares
I was ok until the scene where the spider form of other mother jumps at Coraline in the spiderweb scene. That made me scream 😂 it wasn’t a startled scare but she just looked so ewwwww scary 😂
Everytime I watch this movie, the scene when the Other Mother counts to three and slowly turns into her true self, always gives me the same anxious fear of when a parent pressures their child. Which is probably what they were going for.
That's actually a really good take. I didn't think about it like that. Like, being symbolic of parents appearing like their worst scariest selves when they're angry with you. 👌
20:01 “I feel like this would’ve scared me more of the ending had a little uncertainty”. Didn’t you notice the cat disappeared behind the Pink Palace Apartments post sign in the end ? Have you forgotten he could only do that in the other world ? 👀
He could do that in the real world too, it’s what he meant about finding different ways between the two worlds. But this means he went to the other world and that there’s still ways through the other mother might be able to use.
The garden looks like that in the beginning of the movie too, it's just a sign of the Beldam's presence around the Pink Palace, like the bug wallpaper and little door which are present throughout.
I think at 16:09 the "flag" of Wybie's clothes are meant to imply that he was destroyed because he helped her escape, with only his clothes being left as a warning (kinda like they would have spiked a head back in the old days), not that he's running around naked xD
Did you recognize all the times Coraline escaped through the tunnel to return her real home, but the first time her _other_ parents tuck her in and watch her fall asleep then she wakes up back in reality? I interpret that to mean she never left the other world and is in a purgative state(all aparat events that happened after her real parents passed). I believe the whole scenario of her parents being there at all throughout the movie. Are what Coraline would deem to be the ideal side of her purgatory. Also 'the accident' might reference to the family being in a car wreck on their way to moving across country. But only Coraline survived(initially) and she became stuck as an entity in the Pink Palace, which is why there's scenes with rotting food and her parents being 'gone' for so long. There's even a picture frame of them when Coraline didnt have blue hair; could signify they were better days not so much that it was childhood but the fact it was life. It also seems the residence of the Pink Palace are from different points in time. Add in how they never leave/are never shown leaving to do their performances for the public. Caused me to conclude that even though Coraline gets her parents back. It merely means she/they have control over the estate and are able to move on, be at peace.
The reason her eyes look sunken is part of the stop motion process. Coraline has face plates that allow animators to remove one face and replace it with a different one to showcase a facial change. Her eyes do stay in the model though. I recommend watching Nightmare Before Christmas if you haven't seen it.
Coraline indeed is quite scary for some but is indeed more fun the less scared you are. I love all the tiny details the bug wallpaper in the living room hinting that the house might have belonged to Beldam, Coraline's family had to move because of a car accident, I have speculated that Beldam's family created the house and she says (in the graphic novel at least) that she dug her mother's own grave and kicked her back in when she tried to crawl out. Beldam could've bene locked up in a cell as a child (if she was a human) and had to eat bugs to survive. After killing her own mother she would crave for love and would maybe even sewn buttons on her eyes to be a mother to her dolls 🤔 Perhaps dying from bloodloss and being cursed? AGH, I love making theories >_< So many possibilities!
This girl is braver than the marines. I watched this movie once when I was younger and had constant nightmares for years about buttons being sewn over my eyes
The movie did end on a cliffhanger the cat went through the sign and the Beldam never died they only threw her hand with the key down the well. And some people think the well leads to the other world because there is a fairy ring around it (the mushrooms) which is known to lead to other realities. So the movie does stay mysterious with uncertainty to whether she is alive or not.
Coraline is scary to me when you think about all of the hidden messages that imply that she could still be there, but it's left up for interpretation, and the signs that the well is probably a portal to the other world. I love the eerie creepiness of this movie, I don't think it's necessarily scary in the normal horror sense, but in a way, it's creepier because it's a kids movie, so there's a juxtaposition.
I always interpreted the very last scene as insinuating that the cat's supernatural powers aren't necessarily connected to the other mother's world. Think about it, in this world pocket dimensions with supernatural creatures exist, who knows what other oddities there are in Coraline's universe?
You’re one of the few people that seems to understand from the parents sides. The older I get the more I realize they weren’t mean they were burnt out and broke 😭 If you really watch their scenes they are struggling to make ends meet with their catalog. Also $24 for gloves is a lot if you really can’t afford it 🤣
I haven’t watched Coroline, but i watched part of it and it wasn’t scary. I was thinking how good the animation was. If you want some suggestions for movies i have a sad one which is The One and Only Ivan. There is a book which is better but i don’t think it’s possible to make a reaction to a book while your reading it.
I remember rewatching Coraline after I first started high school and I kinda understand why she was so sassy and even a bit rude to Wybie (not defending her actions at all, be kind to the people around you) The last time I had moved to a new area and had to make new friends was when I was 6-7 years old and around that time I was incredibly shy since my last school both the kids and even the teachers were jerks to me. But when I was entering high school me and my mom and siblings had to move into an apartment that was pretty small and not so much on the personal privacy area and some of the neighbors were a bit off. And I was very moody and unfortunately I didn’t know how to talk about my feelings without getting snarky or defensive. And I was only thirteen at the time so it wasn’t very easy. And Ik my little brother will be dealing with that as well since we are both moving up to a new state soon. I’ve been graduated from high school for a year now but since I understand what it’s like to have to live in a new place and meet new people and deal with the fact that the friends you had are miles away, hopefully I can help him go through with it. And maybe watching Coraline might help as well. Also I recommend reading the book, it’s much darker but it’s just as cool as the movie
If you pay close attention, in the last scene where everyone is out in the yard planting and tending to the garden, the camera pans out and we see an overhead shot of the property - it’s actually the Beldam’s face (instead of Coraline’s like in the “other world”). This could possibly allude/nod to the fact that she’s still watching over Coraline. There’s still sinister work at play. It just reinforces the overall creepiness of the film; I was definitely one of the kids who was traumatized/completely fascinated by this as a kid...and low-key still am. 👉🏾👈🏾

This has literally been my FAVORITE movie since the first time i saw it at 7 years old. I loved the music, coraline's personality, the creepiness, and everything else about it.
If the eye's look sunken-in it's probably because they made over 6,000 replacement faces for the the Coraline puppet while making the film. At the time it was some kind of record I think, before being supplanted by Paranorman and Kubo. The eyes might have been a point of release on the puppet for the individual faces so they could be removed more quickly. Yellow looks good on you BTW, even without Blue Hair. :-D
The Other Fathers entire song is warning Coraline about the Other Mothers intentions, to put the button eyes on her and "their eyes will be on Coraline"(could also be warning about the "spy doll"). The Other Father saying "Who's hungry?"and the gloves(given they are controlled by the Beldam)both raise. She's hungry alright.... The Other Garden is filled with flycatchers(the plant the frog comes out of is called a pitcher plant, which flies land in the liquid in the "pitcher"and are dissolved by acid. Fun! The book is far more overt with it, but the Beldam is a Fae(also called a Faerie).Theres a few hints at it through the film, but the main ones are:The food of the Other World is far more delicious to Coraline, the well has a ring around it called a "faerie ring"and the green stone Spink and Forcible give her is an Adder Stone(a magical charm able to see through enchantment and glamours). Theres a scary part of the book that was cut out, which is about the tunnel between the two worlds containing a monster(which we never see)that is older and slow, and more dangerous than the Beldam herself)and the tunnel itself may be the monsters digestive tract. Definitely had a Lovecraftian feel, but I understand why they didn't include it. Better to read, harder to portray onscreen. The Other Father is grinning when Coraline refuses to put on the buttons, and even tries to frighten her further by saying how "it's so sharp you won't feel a thing". This is because he and Other Wybie both care for her. The Beldam did her work too well.
Ik I’m late but, fun fact: The other dad was trying to warn coralline with the lyrics to his song, he said “She's as cute as a button In the eyes of everyone who ever laid their eyes on Coraline When she comes around exploring Mom and I will never ever make it boring Our eyes will be on Coraline” I just thought that was kinda funny.
Coraline is me and my sister's favorite cartoon from when we were younger because it's such a trip and full of twists, and I absolutely love everything about the stop motion animation they did on this movie is just wonderful to the eyes, I just wish they would come out with a Coraline 2 ,:(, Also your really funny, stay positive and safe!
I saw coralline on cable tv when I was elementary school age, but I haven’t seen it since then. I should watch it sometime haha but I remember it making me feel rly sad for some reason😂
How about doing a bad horror movie just for fun and a legitimately scary horror movie haha 🙃 just ideas. I really love Coraline's aesthetic and movie style ❤️
Well it kinda did leave you on a cliffhanger because at the end you notice the cat disappearing at the end so it just makes you wonder if that world still exists since the cat only has those abilities in the other world.
Wow, I pretty much agreed with your assessments, even the inset eyelids. I've read the book, too. I remember that in the book, Coraline is smaller and completely fearless. I enjoyed your reaction! Love your editing, too. I feel that you express yourself well, even if you might struggle to find the right word in the moment at times - I've certainly been there, and I still struggle. Anyway, great job!
@@SophiaPhannn To be honest, I didn't think of it until after watching the video when I was commenting. I'm always so slow in the moment 😖 I can't overstate though how enjoyable it is to hear your thoughts and commentary. I'm sure I speak for many when I say you have a disarming way of getting our hearts caught up into what you're saying.
I love that this film is made in stop-motion. It's so cool. Also, I reckon she looked for the well bc, at least in my experience, kids in the countryside have nothing to do but explore the areas around their house. That's what I did growing up every weekend on my nan's farm
I love this movie. This movie and Kubo are my two favorite Lakia stop motion animation movies. The sad part of the ending is that it is an illusion of victory. Coraline has actually lost to The Other Mother at the end and sh3 is now trapped in the Pink Palace Limbo. A RUclipsr named The Fangirl has done many videos one this movie saying Coraline actually loses at the end. Once she drops the key down the well she is forever trapped in the limbo and the key is back in the Other Mother realm. Then she creates another doll for her next victim.
Watching this as a kid must be fun and spooky. I watched it when i turned 30 so it didn't scare me. However, i was disappointed in myself for ignoring it all those years just because it was for kids. This is definitely a great film that anyone can enjoy.
Coraline is my fav, you should try ParaNorman or Boxtrolls next! Stop motion is the best! You can feel all the hard work that goes into them, I'm pretty sure this movie took like 4 years to finish.
I was scared of Coraline as a kid, but not necessarily because of the movie itself. I had separation anxiety and any movie where the main character left their parents for an adventure freaked me out. This included... most kid's movies.. lol.
I've been looking for a comment/someone like this. My dad would watch this movie every once in a while, and I'd lie on the bed with him to watch. I never was scared of the scenes/characters (I hope one day to have a black cat with no 'true name'), but it was the fear of leaving my parents or never getting to see them again that's stuck with me and my anxiety
I think Wyborn was given his name from his grandma in the meaning of "Why were you born now I have another person to protect from the witch bitch who likes to stitch"(FYI the theorizer made up that quote not me.)
Used to be scared of this movie when I was younger. Just recently rewatched it. I actually like it but I still feel like it has some dark elements to it that are just spooky lol. Remind me of some dark readings we did in my English class in college
Yes coraline, I love that movie! Can't wait to see your reaction! I love your channel! Have a great day! I can't believe your not at a million yet or even 100 thousand, you're awesome! 😄❤
It's a movie about child abduction. Predators use children's ignorance, openness and trust for adults, gaslight them, and eventually hurt them, be it emotionally abusing, assaulting or murder. The Belledame spies on children (stalks them), finds out what they like and lures them in with sweets, games, delicious foods, (deceptively) easy-going and sweet personality, waits til they're at their most trusting and vulnerable, promises to love them and they can live with her in this happy family, then she kills them, hides their bodies, and they are never to be with their families ever again. The use of bright colors, delicious foods, fun games, (false) tenderheartedness of the Other Mother is all a trap for the characters, and essentially the viewer. It's *meant* to lure you in with a false sense of security due to intrigue. It's meant to make you think it's going to be like Alice in Wonderland, but it's more Lovely Bones. *It's not supposed to appear scary, and that's what makes it so disturbing* ; we are manipulated as the viewer, just as the children are in the movie, and children are in real life. I really do love this movie though and rewatch it without getting bored, but it's a terrifying reality.
i don’t care that this is late. so basically, when you were talking about the beldams presence not being entirely gone, well it isn’t. a lot of people have theorized that the hands moving the clouds is a sign that the beldam is still alive. also the fact that the garden looks like the beldam
THANK YOU. Everyone always goes off about how terrifying and how scarring this movie was for them, and I'm just like "...?" Like, sure, it can be creepy and really, REALLY dark with lots of scary imagery... But it's not really as bad as everyone says it was. I first watched it when I was like... 11? 12? I dunno. But I just saw it as a really cool stop motion movie that felt much more horror based without being actually scary.
My dad was a producer on this movie, so I literally grew up with it. For the first 6 years of my life I actually refused to watch it because I thought it would be too scary, but when I finally did go and watch it, I wasn’t scared at all, and it’s been my favourite animated movie ever since.
Honestly I have a theory that the well and the little door are connected because wybie said that if you fell in you would see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day And in the scene where Coraline comes back after shopping with her mom and goes in the other world you can see that it's night time there even though it was light outside in the real world🤔
I remember watching this movie a lot with one of my sisters and saying that the circus guy looked just like our dad. With what he wears is what my dad wears at home lmao
at the ending discussion, I dont think you realized at the end of the movie the cat used a portal. Which, would not be possible if the Beldam was completely dead, meaning she is actually still alive. Meaning, she most likely still has the key. If she still has the key the well would have to be a portal. Meaning Coraline just gave the key right back to the Beldam. The thrill and hidden theories and secrets in this movie, is fascinating.

Ik I’m late but, fun fact:
The other dad was trying to warn coralline with the lyrics to his song, he said
“She's as cute as a button
In the eyes of everyone who ever laid their eyes on Coraline
When she comes around exploring
Mom and I will never ever make it boring
Our eyes will be on Coraline”
I just thought that was kinda funny.
Sophia: "I don't find Coraline scary"
Me: "Is it possible to learn this power?"
It wasn’t scary for me
It wasn’t scary at all to me growing up either
Watch some theory’s and things you didn’t notice, makes the movie a lot creepier when you rewatch it
Coraline is me and my sister's favorite cartoon from when we were younger because it's such a trip and full of twists, and I absolutely love everything about the stop motion animation they did on this movie is just wonderful to the eyes, I just wish they would come out with a Coraline 2 ,:(,
Also your really funny, stay positive and safe!
I saw coralline on cable tv when I was elementary school age, but I haven’t seen it since then. I should watch it sometime haha but I remember it making me feel rly sad for some reason😂
Why did I just notice one of Coraline’s friends built like a Code Lyoko character?
9:48 "I can't imagine being loved that much that they would do that" Girl same 😭💀
Oh I love Coraline! The novel and book are great too :) I was super scared when I've been reading the graphic novel (I was about 10 years old though)
5:14 KWJDKWJDKWFJS I WAS NOT EXPECTING ROBERT ALL OF SUDDEN LMFAOOO
lmaoooo i love your sense of humor so much! 19:01 had me rolling 🤣 so glad to have found you through your atla videos and excited to keep watching!! 😊
Me too!! Omg we should start a fan club haha. Shes so adorable too!!
He can’t lol he has a hunch back😂
How about doing a bad horror movie just for fun and a legitimately scary horror movie haha 🙃 just ideas. I really love Coraline's aesthetic and movie style ❤️
Well it kinda did leave you on a cliffhanger because at the end you notice the cat disappearing at the end so it just makes you wonder if that world still exists since the cat only has those abilities in the other world.
11:41 my gosh that creeps me out🤯🤒
I love this movie so much. It also has an evil twin movie called "Caroline." I don't recommend it lol
I'm always so slow in the moment 😖
I can't overstate though how enjoyable it is to hear your thoughts and commentary. I'm sure I speak for many when I say you have a disarming way of getting our hearts caught up into what you're saying.
she said bro built like bigweld from robots 😂😂😂 that laugh caught me so off guard
One of my favorite movies. Contrary to popular belief, this was not directed by Tim Burton, but was by Henry Selick.
I've watched literally every reaction about this movie and all other RUclips reactions are Incredibly funny especially yours LOOOOL
I love that this film is made in stop-motion. It's so cool. Also, I reckon she looked for the well bc, at least in my experience, kids in the countryside have nothing to do but explore the areas around their house. That's what I did growing up every weekend on my nan's farm
gur i am actually obsessed i just found out that u have been doin this for 6 months only, u are such a queennnn i love ur editing and humor ❤️
I've fallen in love with this lady, her editing and humor 😗
I love stop motion animation, and I'm glad other people also appreciate it
Coraline is a movie I can watch over and over again 🥰
Fun fact: a bunch of kids say this was traumatising then theres me who’s obsessed with it
I used to watch this movie with my cousins who loved scary movies as kids and this was one of our favorites to watch late at night, good movie frfr.
I love coraline my sister was scared of it but I loved it stop motion and doll motion is like my favorite thing it's always so nice
A lot of writers like to use old DOS computers so they don't get distracted from other stuff on the computer
When I was a child I never was scared by coraline I always love the movie
Homegirl was ahead of her time istg. She pulled off blue hair and a yellow raining coat. Icon.
Just started watching these videos and I can not stop.
Watching this as a kid must be fun and spooky. I watched it when i turned 30 so it didn't scare me. However, i was disappointed in myself for ignoring it all those years just because it was for kids. This is definitely a great film that anyone can enjoy.
This is such a well-made movie I love it so much! I mean the intention to detail is amazing it's stellar ♥
"No substantial holiday in November"
Día de muertos: *cries*
Coraline is my fav, you should try ParaNorman or Boxtrolls next! Stop motion is the best! You can feel all the hard work that goes into them, I'm pretty sure this movie took like 4 years to finish.
I love watching Tim Burton movies especially the stop motion ones
Bro I remember when I watched this as a kid I was so scared I peed myself and had nightmares for a whole week
coraline has been my favorite movie ever since i was a little child. i play it to fall asleep sometimes
This is one of my all time favourite movies!
congrats on 10k subs! You're amazing
Coraline is one of my favorite movies when I was a child. Does that means that I’m creepy? 😂
Same
I've been watching this movie since I was a little kid. This and zombieland was my childhood
Definitely loving the Super Mario Princess Daisy look (judging from your top and necklace).
i don’t care that this is late. so basically, when you were talking about the beldams presence not being entirely gone, well it isn’t. a lot of people have theorized that the hands moving the clouds is a sign that the beldam is still alive. also the fact that the garden looks like the beldam
Another good stop motion movie in the theme of Halloween to check out is ParaNorman a very underrated movie it's worth the watch.
It's my favorite animationnnn , since I was a kid ^^
THANK YOU.
Everyone always goes off about how terrifying and how scarring this movie was for them, and I'm just like "...?"
Like, sure, it can be creepy and really, REALLY dark with lots of scary imagery...
Oh, and here’s a fun fact: snapdragons can symbolize deviousness and are often use to ward away lies and tricks. Use that info as you will
Honestly I have a theory that the well and the little door are connected because wybie said that if you fell in you would see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day
And in the scene where Coraline comes back after shopping with her mom and goes in the other world you can see that it's night time there even though it was light outside in the real world🤔
Coraline gives me inspiration its so cool
This is my fav. Movie so I was so happy
One of my favorite youtubers watching one of my favorite movies
@@SophiaPhannn
(◍•ᴗ•◍) - yes. Top 5
I remember watching this movie a lot with one of my sisters and saying that the circus guy looked just like our dad. With what he wears is what my dad wears at home lmao
Coraline’s parents are just trying their best. I feel for them.
at the ending discussion, I dont think you realized at the end of the movie the cat used a portal.
