Cheesy Rigatoni Pie

RIGATONI PIE
Servings: 10
INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
1 pound rigatoni pasta
1 cup parmesan, grated
1 cup mozzarella, shredded
Special Equipment
Springform pan
PREPARATION
Boil the rigatoni in salted boiling water until just underdone or al dente.
Drain the pasta and place in a bowl with a little olive oil so the pasta doesn't stick together. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 400°F/200°C.
In a pan, heat the olive oil and add the ground beef.
Break up and stir the beef until brown.
Add in the garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir until combined.
Add in the crushed tomatoes and simmer until thickened, about 20 minutes.
Sprinkle the prepared pasta with the parmesan cheese and mix.
In a springform pan, place the rigatoni noodles standing up to fill the pan.
Pour the sauce over the noodles and bake at 400°F/200°C for 15 minutes.
Sprinkle the pie with the mozzarella cheese and bake for another 15 minutes at the same temperature.
Slice and serve!

I've made this before a few times. The secret is after you pour the meat mixture on the rigatoni, pick up the springform pan and band it on the counter to get the sauce to go down into the pasta; then add more. Then you have sauce deep into the pasta. Works great!
So I had never heard of Rigatoni Pie before seeing an amazing picture on Reddit today. I am going to make this later tonight. I don't have any springform pans, I'm planning on using some regular-ass trays. No problem, right? It just won't be easy to cut and slice perfect "pie shaped slices" but it shouldn't actually affect any of the cooking and eating of it , right? Just won't come out 'looking' as nice?
Who else is tired of the "watch this but don't make this at home" comments?

I made this dish, and it's definitely worth trying. The recipe is good, of course provided that you have time to stack the rigatoni pasta in the pie mold. It tastes good, and the presentation is also nice. I would add some chili powder to it to give it a little more heat the next time I make it.

Also put corn tortilla from 99-cent Store on the bottom to prevent to sauce from leaking... You can buy many of the ingredients here from the same store too.

So glad they covered up the top. My trypo almost came out.
you dont need oil to brown your meat, you need to drain it afterwards, some veggies other than tomatos would help (you typicaly make a full sauce for zitti, not just tomato and meat), and try some parsely, thyme, and anis for better seasoning.

ohhh man... randomly was just thinking about this on my way home...
For the record, I'm trying this rn and it's very hard to get all of the meat into the noodles (I must have not made the pieces small enough). On the bright side, that fixes everyone's fear of holes! :D
Maybe the rigatoni is too small. I used barilla when I made this.

I made this and it was nice. Only problem was that it collapsed when I seved it up. Found it impossible to serve a slice like in the video.
Owf Gaming I think the trick us to undercook the pasta before making this, so it's still hard but medium soft.

My grandma used to make something like this, only she used spaghetti as a "crust" with the ingredients acting like a filling.

Made this for dinner last night. Delicious. I cheated and used sketch sauce instead of crushed tomatoes.
Might try with RAO. When I make sauces it’s an all day affair🤦♀️
Noticed tasty's recipes are a lot nicer these days :) they used to just deep fry everything and put some cheese on.

Lol put pasta on the bottom of the pan. Add sausage, ricotta, parmesan to the sauce and put some in to mix with the noodles. Arrange noodles pour sauce/fresh basil and parmesan on top and bake👌🏽
