Hey Stick, if Lasher Tool out of South Africa isn’t making the CS Machete line then what Chinese company is? 1055 or 65mn…..JoeX showed you some results to pay attention to. Thanks GnB 👍👍🇺🇸
My fav CS knife right there. I personally best the heck out of my SR1 and it stood the test of time and everything I was ever able to throw at it. 10/10 Cold Steel!
You probably bought it before GSM purchased Cold Steel. Or you got one that was made before GSM acquired Cold Steel. I don’t think any of Cold Steel’s knives are as good now as they were before GSM bought them.
@@FriedPi-mc5yt Mine’s pretty old, though I cannot recall whether it was made prior to the buyout. As long as they manufacture this model at the same facility, it should be just as good. A lot of their newer designs are made in other factories, and many of these newer models appear to be of lesser quality.
@@helterskelter156 Well some of the old models are being made with different steels too. They’re making a Laredo Bowie with 4116 Krupp which is a lower grade steel that’s used for cheaper kitchen knives.
Stick - keep up the good work man. I know it’s difficult nowadays, but you’re killing it. I’ve owned CS knives since the 90s, and I’ve never had a major failure. There have been a few that had some QC issues, but that’s out of at least 100 I’ve owned. Overall, they’ve performed and held up remarkably well. And I haven’t noticed any decline in quality since Lynn left. In fact, the Mayhem is one of the best folders they’ve ever made imo. In terms of toughness, just go buy a Recon 1 (or whatever model really - even the cheapest ones...but the Recon is possibly the most iconic CS ever) and heavily abuse it for a year. I bet you that the knife will take whatever you through at it, unless you’re purposefully trying to break it. Nothing really “passes” Joe X’s tests because his mission is simply to destroy a knife for RUclips views (i.e. that’s how he makes his money). When in the real world would anyone ever repeatedly beat a knife, machete, or sword against a solid steel rod? What purpose would that serve except to try to break it? I get that his destruction tests are fun to watch, but he never uses anything he tests as they were intended to perform. I’ve talked to him via email asking if he’d consider actually testing knives as intended, and he basically said that he wouldn’t make any money doing that.
Last knife I got , an affordable version of the broken skull, feels very gritty and flimsy at the same time...I own voyagers, hold outs, rajah2, peace makers, roach belly and a few push dagger not to mention a gang hatchet, a pipe hawk ,Finn wolf kudu and yet this knife feels like none of those. Cold Steel affordable didn't mean flimsy. Never. I might be wrong and I really hope I am
The knife is great however the aesthetics or WAY OFF. The handle to blade ratio on ALL Cold Steel knives need to be fixed big time! We dont need 5.5" handles on a knife that has a 4" blade! This knife in person looks so goofy because of its ridiculous handle length! A 4" blade should have a 4.25 - 4.75" handle, NO BIGGER! There is no reason to have an over 5.25" handle on a 4" blade! It makes the whole knife look silly. It also feels like less value, even though the value is tremendous! I really wish Cold Steel offered at least a shorter set of scales that this blade and components could be dropped into. I wanted to love this knife so much! However, it's ridiculous blade to handle ratio makes it a hideous knife when opened! Cold Steel, please offer us a different option with the same blade length and a shorter handle!! Thank you!
Why was production of machetes switched to China without notice? The South Africa machetes have been serving very well for years and these Chinese ones are proving to be inferior. Please change it back.

You better address them and soon.
You're speaking out of ignorance. Thompson was notorious for using cheap steals like aus 8, 4116, 1070-1080, vg1 etc long before the GSM acquisition on his cheap stuff. I have seen no noticeable difference between knives from his era and current as far as quality and I own a lot of them from over the years. Why even comment good or bad if you don't have a clue what you are talking about.
@@ashtxsniper LOL!! AUS 8, 1070-1080, VG-1 might be cheap steels, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t good. AUS8 was a wonder steel at one time and it’s a good steel for a knife that will get abused. 1070 and 1080 are still being used for custom knives to this day. Chances are, you’re comparing those steels to modern powdered metallurgy steels. Well powdered metallurgy didn’t exist when many of the steels you named were invented.
