      Never seen a more amazing old man. Parker your grandpa will be seriously missed around the world by people who's heart he has touched with out even meeting them. Me included..

    One of the most interesting episodes of the series. They’re right. Most Australians wouldn’t know of the history of these areas. Glad it’s finally being shown!

    I worked in kalgoolie for a few months the mine there is like nothing I’ve ever seen there’s a view point that you can go and see into the pit you can hardly see the trucks and diggers at the bottom it’s mental

    I had some gold lesses on the Palmer River in the nineties....we did ok with the alluvial processing about 3000 cubic meters of gravel a day. The history of the Palmer River gold rush was amazing. It was so rich that the first in there were able to spoon gold out of the cracks in the rocks in the river bed.
    Some got too greedy and stayed too long once the wet season started. The rivers and creeks were impassable and there was no food as the merchants and traders had left. There were cases of rich men (they had billy cans full of gold with them ) who died of starvation.
    All this is described in a book by Hector Holthouse called River of Gold.

    I've been to Palmer river a few times, lovely place. There would be heaps of gold there if you looked hard enough.

    As a Mining Engineer (Mine Ventilation specifically) that's worked all over Australia in the last 13 years, this series is remarkably interesting. Never dealt with surface scratchers, small miners and prospectors.

      Mate, that area is so isolated ....about a six hour drive from Cairns and most of it on rough dirt tracks....no hotels, cafes or service stations. It’s in the middle of NOWHERE! No one is going to spend money to restore that machinery because no one is going to come to see it. You have to take extra food and water and fuel just to get in there and then get back. Not for the faint hearted.
