Hope you guys enjoy these tour vlogs! I'm in the process of finishing part 3, so hold tight. In the meantime, if you have any questions - i'm all ears - ask me anything! ~ RJ
Really great video! Hope you do more. Keeping with the travel theme of this video, what has been your favourite country to play in other than the US? And what countries would you like to play in the future? Cheers for another great vid!
I always love playing in Japan. Spain is another favorite country to play. In the future, I'd love to play more in Europe - haven't done much. Thanks for your question and thanks for watching!
Thanks for shooting and posting these On The Road vlogs. It's cool to see all the sights and get a glimpse of life in a touring musician. It's actually pretty cool seeing a that it's possible to be a pretty normal dude and still play.for a living. Keep the vids coming! 🎸
Thanks for these vlogs RJ, very interesting extension to your guitar tutorials and product demonstrations. Japan is only spitting distance from Australia,....next time maybe?
Hey! I’ve been following your channel recently and WOW, I actually live in Okinawa right now! Can’t believe you were here on this island, I hope you had a great time.
You actually travel International with a gig bag? I am truly amazed! I have heard all the horror stories about baggage handlers demolishing guitars, and I might say you must be extremely lucky it survived the flight. A standard size Tele type guitar is a bit to big to qualify as a carry-on bag, so the anxiety of traveling with only 1 instrument is very real.
Wow Ron ! You made good on your promise of another on the road again video . Like wow my last comment I mentioned my time in Okinawa and what do you know there you are ! Can’t wait to see part two . Tell me what you thought about it ! Gate 2 street wow Kadena Air abase did those Zoomies treat you well ? We used to always go there for chow ( noon meal) cause you could go back for seconds . Marine Corps fed us like birds .!!! Awesome dude ! See Ya !
Hi RJ - great videos, thanks for making them & sharing w/everyone. I toured Okinawa in the 80's & played Kadena AFB multiple times. Can you tell me the kind of camera you use for these tour videos? i'm using a Gopro, but they aren't very good quality. Thanks & best success 2U! ✌️
Love this, and all of your videos. Given that you took a gig bag for your guitar, as opposed to a hard case, are we to presume that you were able to take the guitar (and your bandmate to take his bass) as carry on? If so, how does that work? Do you have to pay for/buy an extra seat, even if the instruments are stowed in the back? I remember bringing a guitar from the U.K. to Canada in the 70s, and the guitar was taken from me (I had it in a very hard case), and kept in a little recess/alcove at the back of the plane, between the back of the last row of seats and the toilets. Thanks for the videos, and I look forward to seeing more - both 'on the road' stuff, and I would love to see stuff for not-so-good players like myself - for example, how to develop a solo.
Thanks! I was able to carry on my guitar until we flew from Narita to Okinawa. They didn't allow large instruments on board. Going home, I checked it all the way to Nashville, partially because I didn't want to deal with it. It made it home safe and sound. I've never bought a seat for my guitars, maybe if I was transporting a super expensive vintage guitar I would.
@RJ Big fan of your Vlogs! I was wondering and I hope this doesn't come across as rude, but can you give us maybe a ballpark idea of what a 1 time show like this would individually pay you? Even a ballpark. I've always been curious. The overhead just seems insane to me (Plane tickets, hotel) for one gig for the band. One last question...On a mainland tour how are you paid? Is it like a weekly thing or is it per show? Hope I'm not too intrusive just fascinated with the business side. Thank you man.
I can divulge numbers, but it's enough to get me out of the house and on a plane for 20+ hours lol! Pay schedules depend on the artist/gig - sometimes it's a weekly rate, sometimes it's per show, sometimes it's yearly salary.
@@RJRonquillo thanks for the quick response. Didn't mean to sound to personal. Haha love your videos man watch them your tour Vlogs all the time all the way in Michigan. I'll be recording in Nashville in March never know may need to hire you one day. 😊🤘
RJ how do you get all these different types of gigs ,do you have a manager that has a lot of contacts and put you in these situations? Is it Word of Mouth due to you being in a circle of people. Thank you Just curious.
Great question Kevin. It's almost entirely word of mouth, and usually through friends. My biggest tip I always tell musicians who want to get gigs is meet and befriend as many people as you can.

R.J. Ronquillo Guitar i know its a basic question but I would love to know what are your favorite bands and guitarists?
Really great video! Hope you do more. Keeping with the travel theme of this video, what has been your favourite country to play in other than the US? And what countries would you like to play in the future? Cheers for another great vid!
Right now, i've been listening to more jazz lately. Jesse Van Ruller is my current fave jazz guitarist.
Love it!
