At some point, it is better to learn how to utilize *all* the resources you have at hand, and this is one of them. Anyway, I don't think it is cheaty, sometimes you don't have health flasks and aren't confident in your skills beating her with low health so you opt to doing that. It is more or less a QoL feature that I am happy they added :)
Trust me man, you need to be highly determined and DO NOT RAGE! Try to understand what killed you or damaged you and see how you can avoid the situation in the future. This can take hours, if not days, but it will work. This isn't something that happens between days or weeks, it took me my entire career throughout 2 years to reach this point (take long breaks from the game if you feel REALLY stuck) This is me about 800 hours talking so please try to do that. It is slow but highly rewarding I am not saying that you need hundreds of hours to be good, just try to learn and optimize your strats for a better time :D

why did I only just now realize that you can parry the giant's lazer beam bullet hell projectiles. I feel very silly now.

Well it is as balanced as any other weapon in the game (exsept baseball bat), you just have shit load of scrolls.
Yeah, good point, the scrolls make about 90% of the build buts still, the synergy is nice!
