dang the start of this video had my head SPINNING. Regardless LOL This was such a good watch! I love hearing other artists opinions on worldbuilding, nice to see things from their perspective. Can't wait for the next one man :D
An important note (from a novelist who specializes in dark fantasy, cyberpunk, and Lovecraftian worldbuilding) is to keep your world's logic internally consistent. This rings true for stories that exist in their own worlds, operating outside of our world's physics (Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc) but also for worlds that take our world and modify it into something fantastical. As long as your world building is internally consistent, your audience will buy what you're selling (for the most part, there are always going to be nit-picky people who aren't satisfied with anything you do).
heyy this is a insta sub. you just helped me with creating a world for my story that I am making and giving me more of an overall idea of where I want my series to go and how I want it to be!
Just stumbled across your channel man, really awesome content lol plus I get more stuff to listen to as I work on my own comics, Keep up the great work and stay awesome 😁👍
This the best world building video I got so far all of them are so repetitive giving same tip that we all kno and you used one piece as main example so automatic 10/10
Wow thanks for this this video was very informative the things you spoke about i have seen it in alot of anime like when Senku became village leader and the foreshadowing in One Piece really good stuff man, only thing i dont like about the vid is the pineapple cuz that shit taste good on pizza. Though you were my Rover Brother smhh 😔. Love the vid tho 🤪🤪 ❤
As I read the sophisticated mystery thriller Pluto, blurring the lines of human and AI like psychopass, and I robot, I think what kind of manga and world can I build? Unfortunately, all I can muster with my wealth of references is "Simp Knight" . A Manga where being a Simp is a disease, and we follow a protag searching for the origins of the Simp disease and a possible cure.
Great video. One of my only gripes with most manga/anime worldbuilding videos is that they always use One Piece or any typical shonen world as examples. Now don't get me wrong, One Piece out of all of them has really great worldbuilding, and I can't deny that. But it gets tiring and stale the more I hear people spat about. Imma be frank, not every example should be shonen related. They are so many stories out there that does worldbuilding fine; for example Alita. Also includes video games: Hyrule, Pokémon, etc.
while i understand and agree with your comment, one piece is always used as an example because when you make a video that is going to be viewed by a large audience you don't want to use something that is somewhat niche. you want the most well known property to use as an example so as to not alienate a certain percentage of your possible viewers. so when a manga and anime channel like mine makes a video about world building, almost all if not everyone in my audience has seen, watched or heard of one piece which in turn will make the content of the video easier to swallow.
that being said, i acknowledge your gripe and will consider making a video in the future where we further study good world building by dissecting another property
I mean One Piece has some of the best worldbuilding in fictions. People will use it as a point of reference just like how lots of people refer to LOTR when it comes to world building in fantasy novels. You can't avoid it. Especially when the channel covers topic that revolves around manga/anime. If you want worldbuilding in games, then go to gaming channels. Game is a medium that expresses the world building very differently to manga/comics. This guy is focusing on an entirely different medium than that. Alita is good but it's very niche and the worldbuilding isn't as celebrated as the likes of One Piece nor even the likes of Hayao Miyazaki's films.
One tip about would building is even simple things are world-building. "Spongebob works at the Krusty Krab is an example of world building.
yup! exactly!
