Hi. I saw you saing in an old video about elgato capture cards that it was not possible to stream with any capture card, that the capture cards were used for only recording(as a function of encoding) and you have to use computing power of a PC(from CPU or GPU) and it's not logical to make such product. In this setup, for encoding, you still need computing power of a PC(iPad) in order to stream? Thank you
I need a capture card that supports VRR , 1440p 120/144hz (i know there are no 240hz ) passthrough, just to capture 1080p60 , currently i'm looking at asus capture card. What can you recommend me. (I'm also trying to buy directly to centron design but seems to be impossible)
So...120fps and Dolby Vision HDR would be lovely if Apple gave us that UVC support. I'm getting an M2 12.9" iPad and it would be cool to play 120fps Pc games
As someone who captures gameplay footage for several hours every week, this is a massive leap forward for general productivity. Having a dedicated device that can handle all basic capture requirements without needing to worry about performance impact, quality loss, etc. would be huge for me. If these products mature more and Apple opens up developer access more, I could easily see myself buying an iPad to use as capture hub. Dual PC setups are great, but they're expensive power hogs that come with their own set of technical hurdles and frustrations.
Personally I have no interest in Apple products but this opens the doors for those of us who want a lower heat output from our gamer dungeons and that is exactly what I'm interested in. Great solution during a time where energy costs are rising fast
While I think this is wonderful and will definitely suit a lot of folks I still find it a bit more ideal to run OBS off a laptop. Apples apple silicon MacBooks are pretty great for running OBS I find. The key benefit is you have way more control of your stream (at least atm) and can plug in an external camera/webcam+ capture device just as easily. The only downside would be that your device would need its own dedicated screen. The major downside is that you have to bring that additional portable screen with you. But I personally find it worth it. If Apple opened up the iPad a bit more I would definitely consider giving it a try there
If you had a capture card and an iPad you could do it, yes! Would be simpler to just do it locally but you absolutely can. My Combat Master samples were from a PC
Good luck. With Apple's constipated attitude about not letting individuals mod or repair their own rigs (that you paid good money for) I'm not holding my breath on this. I'm sticking with my PC and OBS. Gotta give props to Elgato for at least trying to work with Apple though.
hey bro, love the content and details in this issue im trying to figure out for the first time. i have a few quetions pls. so i can stream my ps5 off the ipad pro using the app your using? sorry i just wanna make sure im getting my info correct before i make any purchases. Also am i playing the ps5 on the ipad wheres its been streamed or a gaming monitor?
amazing! Almost gives me a reason to update my 5 year old ipad! but the features need to be more fleshed out for that to happen. it would definitely make an incredible mobile rig especially if i can just use the 5G on it to easily stream anywhere i want without a worry of having wifi or not!
This is pretty cool and I can see when an iPad would be a really nice tool to have in your bag, but could you maybe do a pros and cons breakdown between an M2 iPad Pro and an M2 MacBook Air? I feel like portability and power consumption would be similar right? Mac would have a fuller feature set, but iPad has a touch screen and more versatility as a general purpose monitor. I’m not saying this iPad thing is dumb. I think it’s really cool and more options is always better for the consumer. I just wonder if you’re looking for a portable low heat/noise low power consumption device as a dedicated streaming/production system should you run out and get a new iPad Pro or are you better off getting a MacBook and using the tried and true desktop OBS route?
Most of those laptops don’t have anywhere near the performance of an iPad Pro for one. Plus power efficiently, silence Capturing gameplay on a crappy laptop is a very bad time
@@EposVox Yes, I agree with you, but that is quickly changing. Check the Framework 13 with AMD (or most laptops with 7040U chips), it even has AV1 encoding built in, and is whisper quiet. With Intel... I guess we will need to wait for future generations, hopefully Meteor Lake in December?
Not sure if anyone will see this, but does anyone think it will be possible to use a surface pro 9 as a streaming PC in a similar capacity as this video demonstrates? Just curious if I can somehow do the same thing but with that instead of an iPad
Yes basically any windows laptop with 4000 series nvidia gpus are very good at this role. There are some really thin and light nvidia 4050 based laptops.
Interesting. I've been streaming iPad games for the past 5 years and have always had problems with HDCP and my Elgatos. I've had to bypass it by adding an HDMI splitter before inputting it into my PC. Thanks for the reply. @@EposVox
When do you think support for 4K60 Capturing could be supported? I would love to record from something like a Live Gamer Bolt or upcoming HDMI 2.1 Capture Cards, will they be fully supported at launch?
So.... Why does this remind me of the android answer for this, that streaming and monitoring thing??? It's basically a camera monitor, but it runs android, and has an android based "OBS-like" app with similar features to OBS...
I seriously have no idea what the point of this video was. Was it that a low power tablet can do 1080p 60fps streaming ? If so then cant you already do that on portable x86 machines like asus rog ally or amd rdna3 based tablets ?
@@EposVox I dunno if I just missed it in the video, but it would also be nice to stream an iPhone camera to the iPad (I assume this will work to some extent over the USB-C connection, but wireless would be sooo much nicer for certain setups).
Well dam! I just built a 2nd Stream-PC, last week! This could have saved me a bunch of money and time. It's working great capturing 4K 60 FPS gameplay, while gaming at 4K 240Hz on the Game-PC. What I can't figure out is it sometimes works the way I want it to, by cloning the game monitor, Samsung Odessey Neo G8 with the Elgato 4K60 Pro Mk.2. Other times it's a hitching, frame dropping, stuttering mess. Seem like if I wait until the game is started then clone the displays it will work correctly in Windows 11 23h2. The easiest way to get it to work is just install OBS on the Game-PC and Fullscreen project to the Elgato 4K60 Pro Mk2.
You probably did better with the stream PC. $550 on a streaming rig+ vs. $800+ on an M2 iPad Pro ($600+ on an M1 iPad Pro), you probably did better with the PC. Hell, you could probably get a gaming laptop that does a better job than an iPad at being a streaming PC.
It's cool but very much a special use case. I don't think any pig streamers are gonna switch to apple for this. Maybe some new streamers if they already have an ipad.
wow, you mean I can stream without having gigantic pcs surrounding my desk? it's a dream come true :D I've stepped away from my pc to a laptop because of how awful the pc setup can get me on my bad days... on my 5600h laptop I can play cs2 with 90-150 fps while streaming with obs 60-90 fps a Laptop to game with and just an ipad to do recording and stream?? sign me up

“Apple loving” hardly. I’ve been openly critical of Apple my entire career. A tool is a tool. Being blindly hateful of a company is no better than the shilling you delude yourself into thinking is happening
If something works well but it's from a company that you dislike/hate then that tool is still awesome you know. Also before you call me a shill/fanboy I've only ever had one apple device in my life (a 4th gen ipod touch).

The Mac Book Pro with the M2 Ultra goes pretty hard even without support from the wall outlet. But hopefully, you will enjoy your new device! 🎉
I just realized, this could be a huge boom for IRL streamers and I hope it does cuz I would like to see competition for devices like this!
Agreed, especially because the iPad supports 5G/LTE networks
that intro was GOLD and this is sick. Streaming pokemon unite with this little set up would be fire
elgato needs like a thunderbolt hub that has a built in capture card and audio muxing input for this stuff, that would be sick
