- In this tutorial, I will show you how to retrieve LIVE stock information using the Excel Stocks Data feature.
The Excel Stock Data type is a feature available in Microsoft 365 to let users to quickly and easily retrieve stock information from various of exchanges. Currently, these are the categories of data that can be accessed via the Stock Data Type: Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, Currencies, Cryptocurrencies.

Live Stock feature is only available to Office 365 Subscription users. Please stop asking why I can't find this feature. If you don't have Office 365 you don't have this feature.

I have a office 365 subscription user but I can't get this function because my account is a 1 person 365 subscription and Microsucks want me to pay for a family-subscription. So when my subscription is at the end its bye bye Microsoft and hello Linux!

It was an account setting issue. For all you out there having the same problem, make that you allow access from external sources.

It's really depending on whether the 3rd party service provide the endpoint or not.

Thanks for the video! But Before I buy the needed Office 365 software, I'd like to know if I can maintain other data and functions in the same chart with stock prices. For example, one column could be my desired buy point and another could be a formula to show me if it's been reached. Thanks!
Absolutely! You could build an “if” formula that would return a result if the buy value has been reached. For example, if the price is equal to or less than whatever your buy price is, return the word “BUY.”

Is there a way to get the spreadsheet to copy itself and update daily? So you can track each columns value and compare them day to day?
It is possible but troublesome. There are few things to consider: time of update, export format, and writing the VBA automation to refresh the tickers.
Can you go make this horizontally though so each new row can be the updated value?

I have MS office home and Student It shows the feature and also recognizes stocks from the market, but the box of insert that shows 52 W high low and CMp does not appear.

This has limited features for Indian stock market. All features are only available for US stock market.

Unfortunately, live stock feature is only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers.

Hi, thanks for the video. Is it possible to amend the function so that it retrieve the stock price on a particular day? For instance I want the price of AAPL on a particular day written in cell A1 and this cell A1 will be a day in the past (eg: January 14, 2017).
Unfortunately that's not possible with the stock feature currently. I suspect Microsoft will eventually add that function in my opinion is something pretty valuable to have.
Great ....! How to change the same information for different stock exchange? Say NSE India?
Ok when i add "change(%)" it shows me the percentage but it doesnt show me if it went up or down. I seen some people have the green arrows pointing and red arrows pointing down. How do I get that?

A question though, do you know how to solve the issue if excel does not recognize the right stock. I.e. if I want to add ADA-EUR (Cordana Stock) it adds a different stock instead. Is there a deeper solution so excel recognize the right one?

There are some stocks are not supported, ADA-EUR could be one of then. I don't know if there is any workaround currently to access the unavailable stocks.
Can you please show us how to program for automatic updates! For instance every fifth minute without needed to click on the refresh button.

Unfortunately Excel doesn't save the linkage as a connection. To automatically refresh the information in a repeatedly cycle is to use a macro.

You can write a VBA program using “Record Macro” to create the refresh function, then edit the script in VBA to use a timer and a loop to automate the refresh. VBA can also be used to add buttons and other cool features.

hello, it works well with US stocks, but when I tried local stock symbols ( In UAE) it didn't work. Any way for that?

Stock price you pulled is live information from NASDAQ. The stock price doesn't refresh automatically, you will have to go to the data tab and hit refesh data source manually to update.

This is neat. Is it possible to pull in intraday prices such as hourly, 30 minute or 10 minute data? Also, when you pull in the current data, is there a way you can also pull in the date?

Do the tickers have to be hard coded or can they be linked with another sheet and/or workbook? I am trying to pull tickers that are refreshed from a Power Query. Thank you in advance!
Tickers can be in a cell reference.
@@jiejenn Thank you. In the first column I have the Company name, followed by the ticker and quantities in the next two columns. When I highlight the data and select Stocks it pops up with "We cannot convert into this data type. This is because the cell is blank, contains a formula, or has already been converted into this data type. Try selecting another cell with just text or numbers, or select another data type." What is the best way to get around this error message?

I like the video but that greek building symbol doesn't appear and I only get the static company information. For example, FIVN just converted to FIVE9, INC. (XNAS:FIVN).

Historical data is not available unfortunately.

The text changes but the stocks icon before the text doesn't appear as well as the Add field icon. How do I solve that?
I am not sure what stock icon are you referring to. I don't recall company icon is one of the options. Can you be more specific with your question.
hey @jie jenn did you notice that price update is about 5 mint old. or is that only me. for example it show 10.12 but at same mint online website is 10.40 . but it was 10.12 five mints ago

I think depending on the exchange, some of the APIs will have minutes of delay. For day trading related things, I wouldn't recommend Excel.

It won't work for the Russell 2000 or RUT^. Has all other indexes except for the Russell 2000. Not sure why that is. Russell 2000 is a huge index.

Makes sure your office is update-to-date.
You need to download english language to your excel. It works for me.

You can, but not recommended. You will have to use VBA to refresh the price.

The stock data feature is only available for Microsoft 365 Subscribers as one of the premium features.
