Mountain View Turning Thank you 👍 You are one of the channels that inspired me to get off my butt and actually post some more content instead of just thinking 🤔 about content ideas 💡 😆
Thank you for the awesome and educational video all in one! Your lumber is so light- all of the musical instrument makers will want to get their hands on that stuff!!
Thanks Steve, I’m getting very close on the build list for a custom T-style. I just heard about the scarcity and cost of swamp ash and that’s what I was planning on. Very helpful.
Thanks for watching. A lot of people are looking for swamp ash alternatives right now. I feel like fenders announcement earlier this year kind of open the door. That and the widespread scarcity of swamp ash 😝
That is a really good video. I was thinking of growing about a hectare of paulownia and then either slabbing or quartering the logs. Would a guitar maker prefer (and pay more for) bookmatched quartered paulownia ?
Some light electrics ring out or resonate better, plus I am getting older, too. But, in general that makes the instrument sound better and can be easier to play as well. Just my thoughts from experience.
I've got a kit guitar made from a Paulownia body and it's the guitar I pick up every day, everything else feels like a bass now. :) It took a dark stain so well too, although I wish I'd left more of the grain showing.

Thank you so much for the love on my channel, Commercial Forest. I'm always happy to bring it back with a play *_in full_* (10 minutes) and a big like #23 from Bits of Real Panther -- we're all in this RUclips dance together! Anyway, I hope your upcoming Friday is one for the record-books, friend!
Bits of Real Panther 🐆 Thanks for watching. Isn’t it amazing how a fickle algorithm can bring total strangers together like this! Appreciate your support!
love the grain in the swamp ash . im a sucker for the natural beauty of wood . i had a flame maple topped acoustic guitar once upon a time , i couldnt play a note but she sure looked good
tom Hughes it’s ironic that some of the best players I know have some of the worst gear! Or maybe I should say some of the worst players have some of the best gear (I include myself in this). What I lack in talent, I make up for in gear 🎸 😝
2019 Mildred Montag Thanks! That works well as I really enjoy hearing myself talk and getting insanely 🥴spot on feedback/comments like the one you just made. A wise business guru once said...”To be honest, I really love ❤️ complements.”
I've seen ash, maple, mahogany, and alder have issues with bridge studs on a floyd rose or the new 2 point strat trem, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was an issue here too. However a hard tail bridge has less force trying to move the screws around in the wood, so would be a safe choice, as would a traditional 6 screw strat trem.
Based on feedback I’ve received from builders we’ve worked with, Floyd might be dicey unless you have a lot of extra reinforcement built-in. It’s similar to the issues faced with basswood bodies. I suppose it’s the trade off for getting that insanely light instrument weight 🤷♂️
How's she goin'? Just dropped by to have a look. I wish I was the lucky woodworker who happens by. I bet you have lots of nice wood in the wood lair!!! I subbed and I'm hoping our channels can interact often!!! Thanks for posting.
Grampie's Workshop thanks 😊! I’ve had the channel for a few years but 2019 is the year I decided to actually put some effort into it. It’s been fun. Maybe we can do a collaboration sometime. Look forward to watching your videos! 👍

Heidi Ondich Yes. I will have to consult with santa 🎄 on his naughty and nice list to see who gets the wood 😝
What a great review, definitely a must see before choosing.
Thank you for the clarity of communication in this video! I know it takes a lot of work to make all these cuts.

Excellent video friend, Thank you for sharing with us all your knowledge about wood and other things, your video is very educational, keep it up.
That is a really good video. I was thinking of growing about a hectare of paulownia and then either slabbing or quartering the logs. Would a guitar maker prefer (and pay more for) bookmatched quartered paulownia ?
Generally speaking, yes. However, if the logs are pithy, small or knotty, quartering them won’t help their marketability
Are you turning the lights off between statements?
In a way
Lol

Nice! I bet the grain still pops through. Is it a Guitar Fetish kit? I hear about them all the time but have never actually seen one in person.
@@CommercialForest No, it wasn't a full kit. I got the parts separately. So I can't help there.
Chris Franklyn if you want to send us a picture, I will put it on our Paulownia page and attribute it back to you. Let me know. 👍

Yes- the lumber lair is a “nightmare”! 😂
Heidi Ondich i’m not even gonna say anything. It is a nightmare 😱
Steve, some builders say that Pauwlonia wood doesn't hold a bridge stud very well as it is to soft?
I've seen ash, maple, mahogany, and alder have issues with bridge studs on a floyd rose or the new 2 point strat trem, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was an issue here too. However a hard tail bridge has less force trying to move the screws around in the wood, so would be a safe choice, as would a traditional 6 screw strat trem.
which wood is better?
Depends on your woodworking goals
I would love to use this wood for my next build. Can you tell me if it is strong enough to mount a Floyd?
Based on feedback I’ve received from builders we’ve worked with, Floyd might be dicey unless you have a lot of extra reinforcement built-in. It’s similar to the issues faced with basswood bodies. I suppose it’s the trade off for getting that insanely light instrument weight 🤷♂️
@@CommercialForest thanks for the reply...did any of the feedback indicate an actual fail?
Hey, i think its gonna be ok. Because paulownia is denser than basswood and ibanez uses basswood with treomolo and whammys. So all good.
Never heard of it before.🙂👍
Many people have not. It's a pretty interesting wood, though!
How would you rate prc paulownia vs your own
Prc?

Oh dear. That is 10 minutes of my life I will never get back. So how does it machine? How easily does it dent? et cetera

It machines like a stick of room temp butter and dents the same lol.
