Cost of Living in Peru

  • Peru is one of the least expensive countries to live in South America. You can cover your basic expenses for $2,000 per month or less in most areas other than in Lima. Living in the capital costs you a bit more for the same quality of life as you would experience in outlying areas. If you own your own property, $1,500 per month would be more than enough to live on.

Most of my time there was not pleasant. Yes it is expensive here, but the freedom we enjoy you can't put a price on. You mentioned corruption in the USA. The corruption in Peru is much worse.

    Hi Steve greetings to you and your wife - I really enjoyed the information you have provided here and have been reading up on some of your previous readings via the International Living since I am a member as well. I am currently in the process of pre-planning my relocation to Peru and have my first visit trip in plans for the upcoming 2023 which I am planning to visit for at least 14 days max. I really would like to establish communication with you both since my interest is to live in the city of Trujillo because I want to be close to the waterfront - I would really value your consultation on this new phase for my next venture in my life journey since I feel it's time to leave corporate America as my retirement journey has caught my interest for Peru in this next amazing chapter of my life journey.

You can hire an insurance health per 145 US$ per month, and with that insurance you can pay just 20% in intensive care or drogs, or any appointment with a good doctor

    Hi, perhaps after your detail brake down on costs, suggest you to give a ball park figure. I do know Lima and other cities extremely well. The rental fees that you have obtained in Miraflores are perhaps half of what the average is elsewhere. Good for you. When it comes to food, Peruvian cuisine is perhaps the top in the world, and when you mention us 5/2 people that is in a street kiosk. Casual restaurants are abundant. Internet wifi, same as US/Canadá, gas same as Canadá, taxi extremely cheap, electronics 20% - 30% higher than us/Canadá, health care for a casual visit to a doctor or clinic maybe average us 100/visit, new cars price same as us/Canadá. Renting a one or two b/r flat at one of the nicest beaches not less than us 2000/month.

      tap water is totally normal in Lima and in most cities of Peru. Of course if you are a foreigner you shouldn't drink tapwater, but i've been drinking tap water before and never happened anything to me. I don't understand why people think tap water in third world countries literal poison, just boil it and put in the fridge, lmao

    • @AmericoMendez
      @AmericoMendez 4 года назад +1

      Yes, it can be done. That's what locals do. It is not recommendable to drink it directly as it is not properly treated, sometimes it has too much chlorine (and other chemicals) and some others none at all which leads to microbs and parasites. That is why it needs to be boiled, so you can eliminate both chlorine and microbs.

    The Trujillo area (and that includes Huanchaco) has one of the highest insecurity, crime and murder rates in all of Peru. Living in Lima, as well as in Cusco, will run you by far more expensive, that is, unless you just want to survive, instead of to enjoy life.
