One of the most famous masterpieces of the architect Kerbalai Safikhan Karabakhi in the city of Shusha is the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque. The name Ashaghi Govhar Agha in Azerbaijani refers to the location of the mosque. Thus, the city of Shusha consisted of 17 mahallas (neighborhood/district/microdistrict), which were divided into upper (yukhara) and lower (ashaghy) mahallas. The Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque is located in the lower (ashaghy) part of the city; That’s why the name of the mosque contains the word - ashagi. It was built in 1874-1875 at the expense of the daughter of the last ruler of the Karabakh Khanate, Ibrahimkhalil Khan Govhar Aga Khanum.
The main facade of the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque has a special artistic architecture. At the entrance to the mosque there is a wide three-arched veranda. This three-arched symmetrical structure is assembled on two octagonal stone columns located at equal distances from the central stone and two other pilasters placed at the edges. The pointed arch gathered in the center is higher than the depicted semicircular arches on the sides.
