u presented 3-4-3 very well. the best i have seen. If a team were to play with 3-4-3 and change it during the game, box to diamond to 2 wide men etc, then the teams should have a bunch of utility men. Like the Juventus team of 1990s - not too famous but can play in a few positions and always 7/ 8/10....or someone like Alan Harper and Kevin Richardson of Everton of 1980s and John O'Shea, Phil Neville of Man Utd
thoughts on 4-4-2 box? You still get the 4 man midfield with a 4 man defense. Now you can have 2 forwards in front who can even stretch wide if the front 2 midfielders push up
Flexibility is more important than a single system. Not one formation is perfect, they all have their own failings. So having players who are multi functional allows to adapt to any given situation. Formations are simply a tool to enhance your strengths and hide your weaknesses. The better the players, the less important the formation becomes. if you have very limited players, then having a formation that minimises their deficiencies becomes more relevant. So any system is totally dependent on the players you have, and what you facing. You wouldn't want a high line against Ian Rush, or to be depending deep against Gerd Muller
The next trend is already happening. 2-5-3 or 2-2-6 (came from 3-1-6, but add plus 1 man in midfield box, now 5 playes mantanin the width with the two wide attacks in both sides) many teams starting construction phase with a 2-1 or 2-2 , and starting drag 5 players to the midfield, and then trying to attack to most common 5 cb backline with 6 players: 2-2-6/3-1-6. And teams already trying to false a 2 center-forwards, or even some teams (like italians teams) start with two real center forwards, to make a better pressing against the back line 4
traditional 343 is very weak in modern football, the attack is predictable, only 2 midfielders that can be easily taken by 3 as square and 4 as box midfielders, if your 2 midfielder have to help attack you dont have defensive midfilder and can exhaust your player stamina very easily and if you have slow midfielders its very a dissaster. my country always play awfull using it. but 3421 is a different beast, 3 center back, 2 defensive midfielders to protect the back and control the center, 2 attacking midfielders (play as 2 number 10 and also as 2 advanced playmakers) that are free to play in any position to support striker in attacking and support defensive modfielders to gangbang opponent 2 midfielders or 3 midfielders becoming 4 vs 2/3, wing back to provide width in the defense and attack. its just a complete

I remember the Napoli team around 2010. They played a 343 with lavezzi, Cavani and Hamsik up front!

i'd prefer 2-2-2-2-2
Like all managers with sexy tactics. Within a month he will just be playing the same 4-2-3-1 as every other team in the world.
what about 3-4-3 false nine?
3-4-3 risk is the channel. some great through passing can end your defender
