    Congratulations you guys did a great job building a cabin you can live in. It pays to be handy and resourceful. You both should have an anniversary celebration, maybe a blessing of your first literally home made home. $1500 to build a home is amazing! There is authenticity to your home. It's not just a set for you RUclips videos. You know, if you ever move out to a bigger home, you can turn your cabin into an Air B&B for people who want that frontier experience. Your winging it is good enough for me. I love watching the process. Justine, you probably have had enough experience trying out different recipes that you can wing it successfully. Happy belated Birthday, Justine! The famous celebrity cook Paula Dean was advised to take 'princess' bites.

    I really enjoyed this 😊 as for that huge copper pot, my grandparents and parents would use the coppers from the old washing machines. I have 2 huge ones here, and although I don't use them for canning or bottling, I have them shined up. My uncle made forged steel bases for them and I put pot plants in them. They look so pretty, or I even use one to store wood for winter.

    My Mom used to make minced pie at Christmas, I really was not a fan of it! The flavors were too intense and something I wasn't used to. I guess her Mother made it and that's why she did. I never made it myself since I didn't like it, so ended the tradition of minced pie in our family!

    What makes a pie a mince meat or mince pie?

    • @frontierpatriot
      @frontierpatriot  2 года назад

      its the size of the ingredients example, chopped, sliced, diced, minced :)

    • @EarlyAmerican
      @EarlyAmerican 2 года назад

      Mince = finely diced as the fruit is diced fine. Now this is where it gets complicated because it is a myth that all mince meat pies of this time period contained meat. I'd say that only 50/50 did. Because meat could also refer to fruit, the meat of the fruit. So really you just have to look at the recipe and see what it calls for. All, in my experience, contained suet so are not vegetarian.

    Loved spending another cozy evening with you. I had an OMG! moment when you talked about antique books. When I was a teenager in the late 1960's, my mom gave me a birthday present she bought at our local antique shop. It's a book, "Social Etiquette, or Manners and Customs of Polite Society" by Maude C. Cooke. It was published in 1896 by J. R. Jones. It's got really neat illustrations, some are colored photographs. It even includes a chapter, "How to be beautiful", and another chapter, "Dresses for all occasions". I've been taking good care of the book.

    This is my favorite day of the week. I love how y’all are matching again.
    When y’all get married can y’all do an 18th century style weeding?

      Ciara you are awesome! Thank you always for being here. Trust me I notice your comments and I appreciate them all. We're gonna do an 18th century wedding! Once the house is built so that won't be for a while....maybe 1.5 years? It'll be an open house so come on by if you can!

    you put in the bed together was a real treat for me! I remember my great grandmother had a bed that was filled with straw. I had to help take it apart every fall and refill it for the winter cuz you always want a fresh straw before winter. her guest rooms had goose feather had so we had to take them apart around molting season. just a note for you the love shows. and you've done a beautiful job
