My daughters are breaking the generational curse of teen pregnancy in my family. My grandmother (who is still living and is 89) had her 1st child at 15, my mom (who is also still living and is 71) had her 1st child at 18, I had my 1st child at 19 (I am 45), but my daughter (who is 26) had her 1st child at 24 (after she was married and graduated from college), and my other daughter (who is 20) doesn’t have any children and is a junior in college 🙌🏽
This is what I'm looking to do too! Very similar with my grandma, mom AND aunt but I'm here, just turned 30 and will not have any until my bf and I are happily married (despite everyone begging for a baby). Good for your daughter I know you're proud!

We grew up in a household of alcoholism, drug abuse, domestic abuse, divorce, poverty, incarceration and every form of dysfunction that exists. And I watched as my siblings and I grew up and broke through every curse and barrier holding us back. We are all college educated, financially stable, happily married, homeowners, and don’t drink or do drugs. I sometimes sit and think about what our lives would have been had we not been born again, and I just marvel at it all. If we followed in the footsteps of the ones who came before us, we would be dead or in prison or homeless right now. I am so grateful for God freeing us from the trauma that we endured and setting us on the right path.

I’m so excited to be double aunt!! :) I think they will be wonderful parents. My brother, especially, is just a staple of what a good man should be which is remarkable considering he had to learn it all himself. I know he will raise his little boy to be something special and give him the tools in life that we never had.
What Jeannie said about having a bad temper is so true. Sometimes parents will spank their child for simple mistakes or things that can easily be corrected with words. Spanking them isn't going to stop them from making the same exact mistakes that grown men and women make everyday.
I’ve never understood spanking. If one adult were to hit another adult it would be called abuse but hitting a small child who doesn’t have the brain development to understand the issue and that there are consequences. It just shows that when something doesn’t go your way are you are unhappy you hit people

Yes Garcelle you better preach about financial debt. When my mom died her funeral just by itself was such a stressful burden that I didn't know how it would be paid for but thankfully my family was able to figure it out and have it taken care of quickly so it wouldn't linger for too long
I feel you. When my mom passed away I am a single mom so I had no clue how me an my brother would cover the cost. Not only that my grandfather had passed 6 months before my mom(mom's dad) an she was paying on his still. We was in the process of selling the home my grandfather had grew up in because of taxes being so high there. Well the owner of the furneal home new my mom's side of the family an new we stood by our word. So he waited till I sold the house to pay him everything. He didn't charge me interest either I got very lucky. I hated having to sell my childhood home. But I couldn't afford it an it needed alit of work an my brother also wanted to sell. She had a little.bit of life insurance but sense she was in the hospital and hadn't been able to pay for 3 months they wouldn't pay anything even tho she had been paying for 1 yr. Insurance companies get you that way. They don't care. I can't afford life insurance and because of my health they want give it to me now. Which sucks because I have almost passed away an I have 2 teens. I always wonder if something happen to me how would they pay. I have no clue to be honest. I decided to make a will an put in there that I wanted the house sold an my furneal paid that way an then whatever was left to be spilt between the kids and given to them when they are 18. Ppl don't understand that with life insurance you pretty much pay for the rest of your life an if you miss a payment an your family don't know about it an keep paying them they vancell it out an then all the money you put into it you lost. My Nannie got insurance for my brother an me when we was little she paid it off well that company is no longer around an so the money she put into the life insurance is gone an that company want pay out because its no longer around. Thing slime that suck. I wish they teach life lesson alike this stuff in school. Kids need to know about things like this. They have parents that will have to be paid to rest one day. So in high school they need to learn lessons that can be used in the real world. They teach you things that we don't need to know an never use. My kid is learning about the explorers. Yes they need to know about them that stuff should.be in middle school tho. High school should be about life lessons and yes math and science still.

I am a first Gen college student most people in my family didn’t even graduate high school. School didn’t teach me anything about finances or even how to properly fill out the FAFSA. I feel like they don’t teach you important things you need to be successful but I can tell you so many dumb math formulas ect.
I can relate. I’m a first generation college graduate but I struggled to get where I am. I have never had help with studying, I even had to sign myself up at a middle school that I picked out myself and took a longer path because I had no idea that I could have done a shorter route due to my good grades. Even after graduating from college I still have this mindset that I think I’m not good or smart enough because I never had my family to check up on my process since childhood. Of course they taught me morals and values and some street smart knowledge but not the things that involve education, career, money etc.
She has to make efforts though. And I think most times Loni presents that she’s strong and sometimes a bit mean so they let her be. It’s like the 2 non black girls are kind of scared of her sometimes. But that’s a thing she herself has to work on fixing and make the effort with the ladies.

I see it a bit, I do believe she gets interrupted a lot but also with Garcelle, loni is a bit more evened out, with Tamara I felt she was more of an Aunty and that role doesn’t have as much space when they don’t talk about Tamara’s children or loni’s personal relationship with them. That’s what I see. But she’s still doing great
I think Loni is just in a good place right now, she’s in a happy, committed relationship, confident in her skin as her outfits/makeup have been on point since they did shows from home. Her energy is different but it feels more calming and at ease.

In my family I broke the generational curse of teenage pregnancy. My mom was 16 when she had me and my grandmother was 16 when she gave birth to my mom. I'm 40 with no children oh, and I was the first in my family to graduate from university with my Bachelor's.
I’m breaking generational curse right now with my son. he’s 15 months he has a savings account, I use gentle parenting and we BOTH go to threapy every week he thinks it’s a play date lol!!

Absolutely generational curses are real. From my experiences not only do you have to learn new patterns and have accountability but some things come out by fasting and praying. Cover your children under the blood of Jesus and stay consistent with even when it looks like it's not working. I promise you it'll pay off. If you don't know the Lord Jesus he's the best doctor, therapist, teacher and friend anyone could have and his gift is free. He paid it all. ❤️
Breaking off generational curses is asking God what is in your bloodline, turning ,repenting for your ancestors and turning to Jesus. He is the only one who can break it. Jesus is our bloodline breaker. These ladies need to pray amd ask God for disernment
So true. They don't even know what they are talking about, thinking they have broken or 'trying' to break it without a clue about the spiritual origins or how to solve it spiritually first before they embark on the physical. They will not likely get anyway without serious praying, fasting and stopping any ungodly activity /behaviour.
I think for black families some generational curses are those in regards to emotional baggage ! The way ive seen in my family & even friends that I have the idea of talking about mental health or going to therapy or talking through issues is almost like a taboo thing ! It’s really scary cuz me being a person who is very in touch with my emotions without being emotional I want to shake some people and be like if there is a problem or something going on TELL SOMEBODY ! Closed mouths dont get fed & situations don’t get resolved if you don’t take that risk and just allow yourself to open up whether it be on ur own with a family member or friend or even an unbiased well educated certified opinion ! I think seeing the way Jeannie and her mom almost literally disowned each other and not talk again made me realize it’s common in communities of POC where children are less likely to speak their parents because of not being heard or listened to or understood ! That alone is an issue because children are not just children they are people too ! I don’t want to see another child have to grow up playing catch up to make their voice heard so they start acting out in other ways because of emotional baggage
Totally identify with Ade's financial talk. Everyone clapped roti or dhalpuri and sold food on the side to make it in this country but we never came together and started a business together. I still see that fear in some relatives and they're drowning financially not surviving like they claim. It's so hard but generational curses and BLESSINGS go hand in hand, those missteps or fears are lessons. Keep the good and work on the bad little by little, and it will not all be solved with you but starting the work is a HUGE head start for the next generation. My single parents came from married households and most of their family got married but it's the health of those relationships that was lacking whether they stayed together or not. I was given the world as a child of immigrants, I'd like to pass on the moon and the stars.
That's not true Jeannie, I grew up with my parents arguing alot in our home. I had a tendency to do the opposite in my relationships and hold things in out of fear of confrontation. It's all about how you internalize what you saw growing up.
Thats your truth which is great but that is her truth though. You can’t say it’s not truth, it’s her truth. I agree with what she said, how you grow up influences what you think is normal and ok. Until you start working on yourself and seeing how others do things/behave, you don’t better and so do not know the difference. It’s when you see others acting different that you’re like “maybe the way we do things in my family isn’t right”. I’ve seen members of my family deal with the temper and anger and we KNOW it’s been passed down. The inability to communicate efficiently and deal with emotions turns into anger and issues until people explode, it can be passed from parents to kids. We literally have a saying for certain family members like “just like his/her so and so”.

Yes It can go either way. It's two sides of the same coin. Opposite ends of extremes. You shouldn't have been holding things in and she shouldn't have been lashing out. Everyone processes trauma differently but it still requires healing. much love. God bless

Jeannie has grown the most over the years of all of the ladies and is now in a very happy marriage where you can see that she has willingly, eagerly accepted her role. 99.9999% chance - her husband will do the same.

Guys i never thought there's something like "Generational crisis" till today.....this conversation took me way back and am now getting it, like some of the things that keep recycling over and over again.
In my past experiences whenever I try to bring up generational curses to the older generations in my family they get extremely offended and defensive (especially my grandmother who is the main source of a lot them) like I'm not here to judge but rather learn and grow from your past experiences. This type of reaction is what keeps us from putting an end to generational curses.
Previous generations didn't get the "luxury" (I put quotes around that because it shouldn't be a luxury) of mental health and the unpacking of their trauma so they get defensive, for some of them it's the only thing they know. Their attachment styles are unhealthy (I'd guess most have dismissively-avoidant attachment) and getting to healthy and feeling safe enough (emotionally) is probably something they never had sadly.
Very good topic, this is really a thing. When you learn how to be self aware and know your worth changes can be made. I grew up in that generation of you have to be seen, not heard. I struggled for years to feel heard in relationships and speak up for myself.
Being african and the eldest daughter, our generational curses are mainly how our parents don't believe in therapy and that women's purpose is just get married off and have children.

The only way to break a generational curse is to bring Jesus unto the scene, else you will tip toe your way through life trying to solve spiritual matters with the flesh.
If you study epigenetics you also realise that trauma can be held within our DNA and affect our future offspring. This also becomes a catalyst in generational curses.

STOP saying schools need to teach taxes and finances. 1. Parents need to stop having children they're not ready for. Yes, it's harsh but so many children are born to 'educated' parents who havent learned vital skills to set their children up for success. 2. Teachers are already educators, conflict resolution experts, baby sitters, pastoral workers, counsellors etc now they need to be financial experts as well? 3. If schools all started teaching finances etc who is going to pay for the training and resources etc 4. The libraries are full of information that students already refuse to use because their parents don't even read. 5. How about people who are actually rich (like these women) go into schools and volunteer or create courses for young people. THEY'RE the ones with the information, not the teachers who can't even afford property despite working 70+ hours a week.

Many schools teach economics, business, cooking, foreign languages etc and students still do not care. The mindset is the issue and not the subjects offered. The same way they cut out everything and lie about black history is the same way they can minimize certain subjects to make way for useful ones. Certain specified Subjects can be taken out and sent to college level and vice versa. Survival lessons, Credit, investing, Emotional intelligence, reading a map and navigating, not just talk about disabilities.. increase empathy towards people with disabilities by showing athletes or children, …to name a few.

Each generation repeats what they grew up seeing and as a result they keep getting the same results… Try something new and see what happens. Dare to be different. Though you might risk being talked about and looked down upon by the people who didn’t or couldn’t. It would be great if individuality and doing what’s best for you could be celebrated but unfortunately it’s not always the case in some families and cultures.

I think Loni is just in a good place right now, she’s in a happy, committed relationship, confident in her skin as her outfits/makeup have been on point since they did shows from home. Her energy is different but it feels more calming and at ease.

In my family I broke the generational curse of teenage pregnancy. My mom was 16 when she had me and my grandmother was 16 when she gave birth to my mom. I'm 40 with no children oh, and I was the first in my family to graduate from university with my Bachelor's.
I’m breaking generational curse right now with my son. he’s 15 months he has a savings account, I use gentle parenting and we BOTH go to threapy every week he thinks it’s a play date lol!!

Absolutely generational curses are real. From my experiences not only do you have to learn new patterns and have accountability but some things come out by fasting and praying. Cover your children under the blood of Jesus and stay consistent with even when it looks like it's not working. I promise you it'll pay off. If you don't know the Lord Jesus he's the best doctor, therapist, teacher and friend anyone could have and his gift is free. He paid it all. ❤️

They don't even know what they are talking about, thinking they have broken or 'trying' to break it without a clue about the spiritual origins or how to solve it spiritually first before they embark on the physical. They will not likely get anyway without serious praying, fasting and stopping any ungodly activity /behaviour.
I think for black families some generational curses are those in regards to emotional baggage ! The way ive seen in my family & even friends that I have the idea of talking about mental health or going to therapy or talking through issues is almost like a taboo thing ! It’s really scary cuz me being a person who is very in touch with my emotions without being emotional I want to shake some people and be like if there is a problem or something going on TELL SOMEBODY ! Closed mouths dont get fed & situations don’t get resolved if you don’t take that risk and just allow yourself to open up whether it be on ur own with a family member or friend or even an unbiased well educated certified opinion ! I think seeing the way Jeannie and her mom almost literally disowned each other and not talk again made me realize it’s common in communities of POC where children are less likely to speak their parents because of not being heard or listened to or understood ! That alone is an issue because children are not just children they are people too ! I don’t want to see another child have to grow up playing catch up to make their voice heard so they start acting out in other ways because of emotional baggage

Totally identify with Ade's financial talk. Everyone clapped roti or dhalpuri and sold food on the side to make it in this country but we never came together and started a business together. I still see that fear in some relatives and they're drowning financially not surviving like they claim. It's so hard but generational curses and BLESSINGS go hand in hand, those missteps or fears are lessons. Keep the good and work on the bad little by little, and it will not all be solved with you but starting the work is a HUGE head start for the next generation. My single parents came from married households and most of their family got married but it's the health of those relationships that was lacking whether they stayed together or not. I was given the world as a child of immigrants, I'd like to pass on the moon and the stars.
That's not true Jeannie, I grew up with my parents arguing alot in our home. I had a tendency to do the opposite in my relationships and hold things in out of fear of confrontation. It's all about how you internalize what you saw growing up.

I agree with what she said, how you grow up influences what you think is normal and ok. Until you start working on yourself and seeing how others do things/behave, you don’t better and so do not know the difference. It’s when you see others acting different that you’re like “maybe the way we do things in my family isn’t right”.
I’ve seen members of my family deal with the temper and anger and we KNOW it’s been passed down. The inability to communicate efficiently and deal with emotions turns into anger and issues until people explode, it can be passed from parents to kids. We literally have a saying for certain family members like “just like his/her so and so”.

These are the friends you need! I just got off the phone discussing this with my aunt.
In my past experiences whenever I try to bring up generational curses to the older generations in my family they get extremely offended and defensive (especially my grandmother who is the main source of a lot them) like I'm not here to judge but rather learn and grow from your past experiences. This type of reaction is what keeps us from putting an end to generational curses.
Previous generations didn't get the "luxury" (I put quotes around that because it shouldn't be a luxury) of mental health and the unpacking of their trauma so they get defensive, for some of them it's the only thing they know. Their attachment styles are unhealthy (I'd guess most have dismissively-avoidant attachment) and getting to healthy and feeling safe enough (emotionally) is probably something they never had sadly.
I love this conversation generational curses is a very important topic that alot of us shy away from.

Very good topic, this is really a thing. When you learn how to be self aware and know your worth changes can be made. I grew up in that generation of you have to be seen, not heard. I struggled for years to feel heard in relationships and speak up for myself.

Being african and the eldest daughter, our generational curses are mainly how our parents don't believe in therapy and that women's purpose is just get married off and have children.

STOP saying schools need to teach taxes and finances. 1. Parents need to stop having children they're not ready for. Yes, it's harsh but so many children are born to 'educated' parents who havent learned vital skills to set their children up for success. 2. Teachers are already educators, conflict resolution experts, baby sitters, pastoral workers, counsellors etc now they need to be financial experts as well? 3. If schools all started teaching finances etc who is going to pay for the training and resources etc 4. The libraries are full of information that students already refuse to use because their parents don't even read. 5. How about people who are actually rich (like these women) go into schools and volunteer or create courses for young people. THEY'RE the ones with the information, not the teachers who can't even afford property despite working 70+ hours a week.

The same way they cut out everything and lie about black history is the same way they can minimize certain subjects to make way for useful ones. Certain specified Subjects can be taken out and sent to college level and vice versa. Survival lessons, Credit, investing, Emotional intelligence, reading a map and navigating, not just talk about disabilities.. increase empathy towards people with disabilities by showing athletes or children, …to name a few.

The thing with divorce is you truly have to pick the right person and not the idea of it and know what you bring to the table, or not growing up with a dad then kids you have father not in picture it’s all about choosing right person, and for the money do better as an adult leave within your means. Each generation repeats what they grew up seeing and as a result they keep getting the same results… Try something new and see what happens. Dare to be different. Though you might risk being talked about and looked down upon by the people who didn’t or couldn’t. It would be great if individuality and doing what’s best for you could be celebrated but unfortunately it’s not always the case in some families and cultures.
