@Mercedes Benz - Thank you for your question. In Germany, displacement is always measured by 100 cc, which means as soon as you are over 6200 it counts as 6300; therefore, it is a 6.3 liter engine. The C 63 AMG has the AMG 6.3 liter V8 engine internally named the M156, while the SLS AMG has the AMG 6.3 liter V8 SLS engine internally named the M159.
Wish this was still in production. Engines like this has made AMG what it is, but electrically assisted engines and reducing cylinders and displacement will soon remove everything about what made AMG special.
I had the previous generation 6.2L and never got more than 300kms (200miles) per $105 of 94 octane. Traded in for 2012 E63 with this 5.5TT motor, and now averaging 550kms (345miles) per $105 of 94 octane. This is what they mean by thinking of the environment. This is one of the greatest, most reliable engines ever built. Hands down. Especially considering with a $1500 tune, you are at 700 ft/lbs of torque. The 4.4L BMW TT is NOT a better motor. Makes less power, is less efficient, less potential, and has far more problems.
vioscios Well that happens when you drag an engieer from his cave to present in a foreign language, other companies maketing people just dont do that ;)
Generally it's stupid to have this eco "start-stop engine" in 5,5 V8 AMG engine. It's only purpose is to meet the EURO emission restrictions on paper. But no one normall use this mode. It's even dangerous when you need fast accelerate from stand still position to enter the traffic and the engine lags.
Mercedes has always been on the top of its class for me. It is one of the best cars in the world. With great high quality materials in the cabin and one of the most powerful engines like this one it is really responsible car.

Amazing - if you look back in history, english was derived from middle-english which came from lower-german (among other influences). But to hear a native German speaker attempt english is quite funny.
I find it rather astonishing that the technical content in this very appealing video is limited to the demonstration of: 1)direct injection, 2)turbocharger/intercooler, and 3)auto-start; the former two are 'Schnee von gestern' in the automotive industry thus the R&D that the components of this engine must have gone through is razor sharp.
the engine has additional cam sensors that remember the exact last cylinder fired and the angle where the piston is. So the starter doesn't really do much except a nudge. As for oil pressure. It is the same as starting up a car regularly, except this time, oil is everywehre and everything is lubed, therefore it would NOT wear out the engine. It's not a dry start.
No offense at all, but if you guys elaborated explanations about the engine in german with english subtitle, it would have been a little more... MERCEDES !
Even though the F10 M5 4.4l V8TT outputs more power, I feel like reliability wise it won't hold up too well overtime. Like @Gondon, generating 560PS from 4.4l sounds difficult unless BMW is pushing the engine to the limit. The 525PS from the AMG 5.5l V8TT is lightly pushed and could be upped to 560PS with confidence from AMG Performance Pack. It also sounds better than the M5, which needs artificial sounds in the interior to make the car sound like a V8.
@dasteufelhund - You will see that all our products are on top of the performance segment while still being class-leaders in efficiency. It is possible to combine those two contrary worlds and to achieve this, which is what drives our performance here at AMG. As regulations for vehicles are becoming more and more focused on low emissions, we also have to develop new ways of improving our engines in that field.
5:18 "A crankshaft sensor detects which cylinder is in the best position to be given ignition". What? That's basic function of a combustion engine and nothing unique to AMG. It's ignition timing - TDC top dead center = ignition (fire the spark plug).
+Mark Bartlett You dummy....what ever cylinder is closest to fire next the firing order starts over beginning with that cylinder. Its just to make the engine start quicker after it shuts of at a stop light.
You do not fire the spark plug at TDC. It goes off a few degrees before TDC (Advanced timing) in general. To know what degree the engine is at, a crankshaft sensor like the man described is used.

+Behzad Amjadi thats exactly my point this guy has 8 diferent vehicles and the money to repair but people still dont want to spend on repairs, but yes i agree with u dont buy a car you cant comfertably afford...
I meant it as a general OEM critique but AMG is probably subject to the critique more than any others. BMW has the trick turbo mounting with reversed manifolds and pairing. GM has the smallest footprint for their V8 by far. Honda has the first cam shifting design in the SOHC V6. Ford has a new cylinder liner technology that they licensed to Nissan as well for the GTR. Not clear what this V8 brings to the table.
I can see why he said that. it wears the engine out and wears the starter out quicker especially in city traffic. usually start up where no oil pressure is being applied, its kind of bad on the engine cuz you can take off from a dead stop and not everything is getting oil yet. but that's just my guess.
not really, the rich don't want a crappy turbocharged engines, they want a NA engines. Fuck I hate to know that when I will have money to buy a car all I will find is turbocharged engines because of nature extremists :(
ijustinw the Naturists are NOT intent on forcing you to have a turbocharged auto mobile, they are intent on forcing you to do without an automobile. You will be lucky to ride the bus instead of walking or using a bicycle IF they have their way.
We'll ALL be on hybrids/elec vehicles soon, and the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned. An elec motor is superb for vehicles, with 95%+ efficiencies, so work on great innovative ways to GENERATE clean power, not coal etc, and we'll have great transport systems. Though while they ALLOW Ships to use bunker fuels, the dirtiest fuels of world, cars being clean will do ZERO. 1 ship outputs as much pollution as 15-20 MILLION Cars, and they have orders for 2,500 SHIPS of that size to build. They can EASILY clean the output pollution using similar techniques to factories onshore, but they are VERY Rich corps and owners of countries so why should they, unless they are MADE TO!
The 2.0L Honda F20C in the S2000 makes ~800whp stock block under boost. A few folks have taken it there. However, Honda does not offer an OEM 900hp S2000 for other good reasons. Specs, as released can't tell you the stress level of the architecture. With boosted cars it's even less see through. Another reason why the HP specs aren't sufficient is the new Audi S8. It makes about as much power as the boosted AMG V8, despite the SPEC showing much less.
@HenryHenHenners 2.1bar is like 31 PSI, these engines also have special cams, geometric intakes and direct injection techniques to improve fuel efficiency when you don't have your foot burried on the loud pedal, I bet your dad probably fills up his car 4 times a week with daily use. Also, these engines are designed to last nearly 400,000kms without a rebuild, I'd like to see your dads car last that long.

that's a long sentence. I bet you can write a whole book in one sentence.
money is always an issue i personaly have two friends with amg's and they both have suspencion problems because of the high cost of repairs!! so no lets keep it real money is always a factor!!
+Behzad Amjadi thats exactly my point this guy has 8 diferent vehicles and the money to repair but people still dont want to spend on repairs, but yes i agree with u dont buy a car you cant comfertably afford...
bring back v8 to c class dear mercedes please
NO TURBO LAG?
Bi-turbo..............................
Variable Turbo vanes
peruface nope, not when you start with a 5.5L engine :D
I meant it as a general OEM critique but AMG is probably subject to the critique more than any others. BMW has the trick turbo mounting with reversed manifolds and pairing. GM has the smallest footprint for their V8 by far. Honda has the first cam shifting design in the SOHC V6. Ford has a new cylinder liner technology that they licensed to Nissan as well for the GTR.
Not clear what this V8 brings to the table.
That's really brilliant to learn the technology & of course the all tech support people!
I am german and not every german is talking english like him😂😂😂😂😂
Those are not german, those are schwab :D
@@alikar7216 bist du deutsch😂
Ali Kar where do you come from
@@eliasr8683 berlin✌
@@alikar7216 ok😂
I can see why he said that. it wears the engine out and wears the starter out quicker especially in city traffic. usually start up where no oil pressure is being applied, its kind of bad on the engine cuz you can take off from a dead stop and not everything is getting oil yet. but that's just my guess.
i bet the dude doesnt even know what hes saying, hes reading from somewhere im sure lol
Put this bad guy up with the full carbon body, a total monster.
This engine is actually a test engine for the next platform. Can't wait for the new S-Class.
I own one of these engines. My favourite item.
OK for the rich and famous and those who don't give a shit about the environment.
not really, the rich don't want a crappy turbocharged engines, they want a NA engines.
Also, these engines are designed to last nearly 400,000kms without a rebuild, I'd like to see your dads car last that long.
lmao @ " the Bee-turbo engine"
congratulation for your wonderfull engine, that have a biggest torque and to me, it`s a dream to work in a wonderfull company like AMG
The best or nothing I love these genius germans
