- Jennifer Teege is the Author of "My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me: A Black Woman Discovers Her Family's Nazi Past." In her inspirational talk, Jennifer speaks about the series of events that led her to discover that her grandfather was the notorious Nazi Amon Goeth, a central character from the film Schindler’s List.
She is literally her grandfather's worst nightmare and that's on KARMA lol! I think her story is wild and beautiful the most talented writer couldn't have imagined this, life is crazy...she's in fact a dream.
Yep, Jennfier is a nice lady, especially when you compare her to the Grandfather... (To be fair, almost everyone that's not a Nazi is nicer than Amon Goth)

For the International audience: for us germans it is a very complex feeling of identity, burden, guilt, sadness and much more to learn about the past of our people. Id like to explain it by my own example: you grow up in a very liberal, a very social society, wealthy, normal. And then as you get older you learn about the Nazis and it feels like something from another world, something terrible but also unimaginable. Then you start to understand that your lovely cookie baking granny or your story telling and kind grandpa were part of that cruel past. You might even learn they were in fact real Nazis, in part guilty of the death's of millions like in this Video. As a society and its individuals you think about the human capacity to do evil a lot, about the potencial of horror in all of us, about guilt, democracy, your own family and legacy. My grandfather was in the Wehrmacht and fought against the allies, my grandmother who i loved very much was believing nazi ideology for the longest time and yet here i was, her grandson whom she loved so much and cared for a lot who had a migrant father and who was gay, someone who wouldve gotten killed in those concentration camps. For me being german means understanding that all people have the potencial to be evil, no democracy can be taken for granted and to be part of the people who have to remeber the world of this again and again. I have jewish friends with nazi ancestors, can you Imagine? It is a burden this weight of guilt your ancestors had and the complexity of feelings you have towards them.. but also it has become a duty not to forget and to remember for it could happen again.
...and this is why Americans have a 2nd Amendment. NO government can be trusted to not murder its citizens.

thanks for sharing. I feel like Germany, especially Western Germany starting in the 1970s dealt better with it than let's say former USSR, where none of the regimes terrible acts are processed, the victims were never honored and the perpetrators were never not only punished but never even pointed out. As a Jew from Russia, I find it very comforting to be in Berlin, where you see the past being honored and addressed.
Thank you. I carry the burden too but I am American. My grandparents came over as young adults when my dad was little. The grandparents were preteens in 1944 when the worst of the war came to them. They grew up as Nazis. My great grandfathers were Nazis. One of them was taken to a camp for being too critical. My grandmother didn’t share it with my dad but she chose to reveal it to me. She told me a lot about what it was honestly like for her. I didn’t know what a big deal that was until she was gone. They certainly didn’t talk about it at dinner or around people.
The kids I grew up with didn’t have this background or relate. The adults I live with now don’t either. I grew up privileged and lucky thanks to everything my grandparents went through. I don’t know what it is like for Germans, I haven’t been there. I read your comments online so I can try and understand. I have always been distrusting of the government. Afraid of another war happening. Afraid of what people can do, the government after all, is only made up of people. Positive, but realistic.

Jennifer's mother, Monika, seems still so sad, broken and confused. What an evil and destructive man. I hope these women can finally comes to grips with all this and see that they (Jennifer, Monika) aren't the guilty ones, they did not torture and kill. Blood means nothing, evil comes from the heart, the soul, not the genes, the blood.
Mostly, but not entirely true. Psychopathy does run in families to varying degrees and it's natural to be fearful when a close relative was such a historical monster. You shouldn't bear direct responsibility but you should be aware and live your life to better your family's name and legacy.

"Rolling in his grave" is what a person does when he is _embarrassed_ by what a _descendant_ does, not by what _he himself_ did. So yeah, maybe he will, because he was a pile of shit who couldn't recognize true humanity if it jumped in front of him and screamed.

Ok just some thoughts. That was powerful. The crux of this for me is you are not who your parents are. We have our own mind for a reason. Our mind decides from our own conscience what is right or wrong. Concsienceness is just being aware of the value of the needs of others.
Jennifer will help to heal humanity. To break hatred and barriers between groups.
Her story is really moving; through no action of her own she has found herself in extaordinary circumstances. By sharing her reaction she is offering something very valuable. I admire her courage and resolve to deal with a difficult discovery and highly recommend reading her book!

It just goes to show you, that new generations are not responsible for the crimes of their ancestors. So many people want to blame a new generation for things they had no choice in. You can't choose who your ancestors were nor should you be held responsible for their actions. All you can do is go forward and make your own choices. Be responsible for your own choices not the choices others made long before you were born.
My thought is that for all the children of third Reich criminals to stay silent is to deny truth. This woman an a few brave other descendants have helped concentration camp survivors to continue in healing when those survivors an families of those murdered see the descendants of their torturers wholly reject with active abhorrence the crimes their fathers/ mothers did. Not all 3rd Reich children have to speak out. But it is so healing that some do so. While they themselves are not guilty if indeed they reject that evil an seek to do good in their lives, it still is very good and kind and brave for some of them like Jennifer to speak out.
She should have been given more time to articulate her thoughts.

Sean Coulombe Israel brought/saved almost the entire black Ethiopian Jewish community, numbered in the hundreds of thousands, back to the land of Israel, at great risk and cost to Israel. They were welcomed with open arms and integrated into Israeli society especially through military service. It took awhile because the Ethiopians came from the third world and assimilation and integration was little more difficult for them than from immigrants coming from the first and second worlds.

I, also, am black (black American father, daughter of a German mother, the widow of a Nazi soldier)) I, too, had a Nazi grandfather, who attempted to kill me when I was an infant. He raped my mother, saying she was a whore for having me by a "Schwatze", and an American, to boot. My father brought us to the U.S. I was protected from racism by my father's people, even though they talked about my mother and me behind our backs. It is weird growing up with people who feel obligated to "love" you but who inherently hate people who are your parents, from both sides of your family!

Very interesting true story. A clear reminder that, with humans, good and evil are often relative concepts based on how individuals and groups perceive the "others" and who has the opportunity to tell their point of view. For many, this Afro-German woman represents the good and the goodness to come after a terrible time in human history.

I goggled her grandfather and saw a picture of him, she looks exactly like her grandfather.
Yes, she has Her grandfather's height, thank God she has a different personality. Sad about her mother not wanting to be part of her life. I know she loved her grandmother, and she had no knowledge her grandmother was married to a murderer. Did her mom, have other children? Did her grandmother ever marry again? Her grandmother was not put on trial, but she must of known what was going on. I think it is better for her to think her grandmother didn't know anything. Hope she gets closer to her paternal side of the family.

to reflect the complexity of a distorted , more a kind of
destructed past of far not only too many families but the own one.
Still nowadays I turn around. Do my research, reflect and find out more and more new bits of disturbing contexts - silenced things; never spoken about and never brought into the light within the own family. It was a long and heavy loaded way until this spring, when I learned about W. G. Max Sebald and started reading his books. „Austerlitz“ and „The Rings of Saturn“.
His poetic prose helped me - and still does - a lot to sort out this exhaustive past and to finally develop a better understanding. There are not many people around who are enabled spending solace .
To hear hear her, Jennifer Teege, so softly speaking about her fate makes me feel calm and finally more hopeful. Thank you.

A stunning story of a very brave and proud individual. It is true that life sometimes tosses up hard choices. Many would have come to terms with it in the name of fate and opt for a compromise. Madame Tigge faced her past with pride and sincerity. She is hero to me. With particular dignity she told her absorbing story. What choice we make in our lives is our own decision. Our past need not cast a dark shadow on it. I am very proud of Madame Tigge. May God grant her more success and acceptance amongst all of us. Shalom!
I have ordered the book but would really like to see and hear more from the author. I hope I get to attend a session where she speaks, hopefully in the states.
What a very beautiful articulate woman someone who has experienced rejection at a very early age for reasons not of her own making or in her control, and now as an adult having again to face being rejected by society as whole for the horrific events in world history for the second time that she had no part in other than being genetically connected two generations down the line in events beyond her control, she should be very proud of who she is and how she has come to terms with her families past, she is not and should not be held accountable for what her grandfathers crimes were likewise all other Germans who are descendants of the war criminals of the Second World War providing they accept the role their descendents played in this part of history as this fine example of a beautiful human being has done. I think her mother is restyling her own demons from the past also and I do hope she does let her daughter in to her life as they are both victims of history, like the goering descendent 's who have taken on the guilt for their uncle and both undergone voluntarily sterilisation which think is so sad they feel they have to do this in trying to gain acceptance by the world they are innocent of any crimes as is Jennifer Teege. If we need a lesson in humility or what it means to be humble especially for crimes you had no part in read their stories or watch the videos, Jennifer was asked do we learn from history?? We seem to be still at war generations on, the only thing you can say about war and stupid ideology it leaves victims on both sides. I wish her well and all the injured souls and parties in terrible part of history, most people would have quietly buried this part of their history she chose to acknowledge it it and condemn her grandfathers actions and crimes it took a lot of soul searching and courage to bare yourself to the word I wonder how many of us having had the start in life this lady had would have had the courage to be so open I can't imagine what one would feel like to discovering a dark past such as this,she has the utmost of respect from me . myself like many others are so far removed from the perpetrator's we have the luxury to sit in judgement of other there but for the grace of god but go you.

Brian Laugharne perhaps their choice to be voluntarily sterilized was more of a statement similar to, "with my whole being I renounce these atrocities you have taken part in." This was their way to stop this mad man's contribution.
David Nichols, her natural hair might be like that. But for some people, it's easier for them to handle their hair. But her hair is not the focus of this video or her feelings about it. It's about finding out that her grandfather was a notorius Nazi commandant at Auschwitz. That is what she is talking about. And how this effected her whole life since then. Everything she would have known would change completely.

I totally understand her initial shock at finding out about this horrifying man that she is related to and I wish to be compassionate about what she claims to be going through. However, I find it somewhat bizarre that she feels any level of responsibility for a human being she never knew and had lifespans that never overlapped. I wonder how foolish and regretful she might feel if she eventually found out that the information was all a big mistake?

My sister is married to a guy who's great grand father was nazi party inner circle member. And his cousin is also married to a real african black woman from Nigeria. And a friend who is half jewish russian and half german. Basically his mom's family were in the same concentration camp where his great grandfather was an SS soldier at the same camp. Weird as hell!

Amon doesn’t have a grave; he was cremated and his ashes were thrown in the Vistula River, near Plaszow.

What an amazing human being
I'm not sure it's guilt (exactly) that the children and grandchildren of Nazis are feeling. To me, as a WWII historian (particularly the European part of it) it seems like more of a kind of inner remorse, in that a member of their own family could have commited such atrocities aginst another human race, and also possibly a kind of fear that that (Nazism) sort of behavior might be genetic, and/or that similar tendancies may be inside of themselves, as if it were inherited through their bloodlines. As she stated near the end of her presentation, some of the other children/grandchildren of Nazi criminals had actually had themselves voluntarily sterilized, so that the bloodline of that particular Nazi-related family would/could simply "die out".
It has been 72 years since the end of WWII, and the world (especially Europe) has not roegotten. The family names of the more sinister Nazis (as well as many others) are still fresh, and very well known to many people in those areas.
Based on my own research alone, and in addition to testimonies like this video give, there apprears to be a common fear shared by family members of those Nazis, that people may treat them with blaming, or a shaming for doing nothing more than being born into a bloodline as a decendant of a Nazi who may have hurt them, or one of their own decndants.
When Ivan "The Terrible" Demjanjuk was tried in Isreal in 1974, his own son who was not even born until sometime in the 1950's in America, was attacked and had stones and punches thrown at him while in Isreal. His son and other members of his family also experianced the same kinds of treatment during and after Demjanjuk's second trial in Germany 30+ years later.
My own father, For example: He was born in 1943, so he was not a Nazi, and had nothing to do with this subect. But when he passed 2 years ago, he left behind a legacy of debt, and a (seemingly) mile long list of people who were victims of his thievery, dishonesty, violence and brutality . All too often, I run into, or am contacted by someone who was wronged by my father, and am often threatened and/or treated as though I owe them something, as though I am expected to settle my father's debits, or pay for the damages he left behind. Sometimes, I am even assulted. But for what that is worth, I was already experiancing these things well before he actually passed.
Family members of past Nazis may be having some of the same experiences, with relation to their own situations, of course.
I really feel for you but would you not feel the same if the show was on the other foot? I was born in 1947 and have such hatred for Germans I can't get myself to be friends with a lovely German woman at work because her father was a Hitler youth. My children will not feel the same as they did not experience the aftermath of the war!

Some years ago I met a German woman now in her 70's who together with her class of young teenagers was 'out of the blue' with no preparation shown a film of the atrocities the Nazis inflicted mainly on Jews...including piles of corpses being bulldozed into pits for burial.
She went into shock, found it hard to function for almost a year and she made a promise that she would never marry and bring German children into this World.
She eventually did marry, moved across the World far from Europe but never did have children.

Why was she in an orphanage in the first place ? Who was her father ? Did her grandmother and mother know her father or was this an accidental aqwaintance ? When she was borne Goeth had been shot already. Having her in a foster family but still keep in touch is strange as well.
Amon Goeth took bribes from some of the Jews in the ghettos and then sent them to a labor camp instead of sending them to a death camp. Goeth was arrested by the Nazis themselves on September 13, 1944 and charged by SS judge Dr. Georg Konrad Morgen with taking bribes from the Jews in exchange for not sending them to a death camp. The movie Schindler’s List did not mention Goeth’s arrest and his absence in the camp was never explained.
Neither were the 2million Jewish babies and children the Germans killed. Their only guilt was the were Jewish. Never forget. Never forgive

No one is their ancestor. My grandfather was a mean drunk that beat his wife and children. While not even close to being an Amon Goth, he was still a bad man and I am not in any way like him. One makes their own path in life, choose wisely.
I can understand his direct daughters for doing interviews. But she is just out to make money.

Tbh, I am actually not interested in learning about Amon at all; I’m interested in learning about his daughter Monika and granddaughter Jennifer.
I do find it interesting though, that he procreated with a likely Jewish woman as Ruth is a Jewish name and Monika’s mother Ruth looked Jewish as well considering how he was a nazi.
Maybe the mother put her up for adoption to free her from the family legacy and she unfortunately found out the truth
