Y’know this thing is definitely NOT a new PSP… but it’s also not the total clown show the internet hailed it as initially. It’s a device that fills its particular niche pretty well and it performs well to boot.
We got our son the PS5 for Christmas & in March we also got him the PlayStation Portal for him. He was the one who told me he does not need it. i told him playing sitting down on these extra long video games for "X" amount of time without much movement in a gaming chair is bad for your future mobility. You need to lay down on a bed & use this. All new age gamers who play the PS5 need this because i always hear: i lost track of time on this game & i put in so many hours! What i hear is you didn't move for a long period of time & this device will help.
That's almost creepy how similar your son's room looks exactly like my son's room, and how your experience with not-gaming is almost the same one I was having... 4 years ago and still until today. Love my son but I have so many games that remain unfinished. Been waffling on getting one of these but you and so many other dads have me convinced.

I actually think more people should get this. Put the games in performance mode when offered to get the full use of 1080p and 60fps
