A very nice story of how a little of Christmas was kept alive in terrible times. It may have been a man's last meal...but I am sure he appreciated the thoughtfulness and companionship this effort required as he returned to the lines. They were the Greatest Generation.

Thank you for this. My Mother's husband, William Challen, was with the Seaforth Highlanders at Ortona for that battle and was seated in the Christmas Dinner pic. He is the fellow on the inside lower corner with his two hands folded on the table. He was later killed at Ortona. My wife and I went to the Moro River Cemetery to pay our respects a few years ago.

I feel like this is one of the best video response to that old song "We're the D-Day Dodgers," insulting the troops fighting in Italy while the "real war" was in France in 1944. Let us remember all those poor sods who had to spend their Christmases sorting out problems with foreign relations rather than being home with kith and kin as God intended. Thanks, Sir, for giving us occasion to remember this event better.

Hey Rob, merry christmas from Germany. I´m looking your movies a long time, and I like it. I´m a great fan. My dad is owning a Martini-Enfield carbine, but with a terrible bore. I never shoot it. And the problem here, we don´t have any ranges for shooting with black powder cartridges rifles... I was allways thinking about, to shoot with fathers Mauser 71 rifle. I have some brass, bullets an a die set. But never did it.
I have a Martini-Enfield converted by Greener for the .22lr. I like it to shoot at 100m, it´s nearls original. I installed a Lyman globe front sight.

Being from Trois-Rivières (Three Rivers) I was born and raised close to the barracks of this regiment and we used to play around one of the tank that participated in this battle and was exposed outside. In HS, I had a friend whose father participated in the battle.

You have no idea how much your Christmas story touched my family. My late father in law Sargent Aubrey Rounds of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada was at that Christmas dinner that winter. He very seldom talked about his experience during the war in Italy but At a Christmas dinner just before he passed he mentioned that dinner and what it meant to him. On behalf of my family thank you so much. May you and you family have a very Merry Christmas.

I turned 60 a couple of weeks ago. Every year it becomes more and more apparent to me that the reason I never HAD to serve, was because of the service of those that went before. I wish a Merry Christmas to those that have served in the past, and to those currently serving. And to those that I have known that served, and afterwards went humbly about their lives, I say thank you, and I have not, and will not forget.

My Wife's great uncle was killed in Italy days before the surrender by a sniper and is buried over there. We finally found his grave using the computer system at the Imperial War Museum in London.

I discovered your channel by accident the other day, and I've been enjoying your content considerably. The historian in me has always loved immersive content. Your period-specific unis, weapons, drills, etc are really fun and entertaining to watch and learn about for someone like me, especially since my areas of interest center on Ancient and Medieval Europe (Rome, Greece, & The Crusades Era) along with Ancient and Modern Warfare (beginning at The Great War). I've never really learned or read a lot on colonial history in general let alone the warfare and battle tactics of the period, so most of your content feels fresh and new to me which is neat. But what I enjoy the most about your videos is how the viewer can clearly see the passion you have for history, and that's what makes me watch more. Take care and Merry Christmas!
