It's not all gonna be rockets and construction. More money both from the state and a nice size chunk of change from Elon has already rolled in. Not trying to be an ass and maybe I'm missing something. Granted, if they liked the slower pace of life and the small town feel that I could understand being upset about losing. Though I think that it may be a hard job to work at Starbase. At least if you are not convinced by the idea of the company.

      @@leoh3616 (longish post ahoy! ) I guess I don't get it....from 1998 to 2012 I had a steady job working in a supermarket bakery...no special skills, I got the job through a friend and was trained to do what they needed me to do.... eventually they were looking to get rid of full timers in favor of part timers and I was 2 to 5 minutes late a few times too many and let go. It took me more than a few months to find a new job ( with nothing more than a high school degree and 14 years working in a supermarket )...from there I worked at a literal cupcake factory, an organic pet food producer, a medical device manufactuer and several other jobs. None of them needed special education to get started, just that I be willing and able to show up, learn what they needed me to do, and get good at said job.
      So if new business is rolling up, and jobs are opening up...well nothing says everyone is gonna live like kings, I certainly haven't, but I've always managed to keep a roof over my head, food in my belly, clothes on my back and keep up with an internet connection and some games/movies and stuff even if low rate of pay or having to shuffle jobs has left me one paycheck from being homeless at times.
      So again why would SpaceX drawing in more and more opportunities be bad, outside of ruining the slow pace, small town feel the area has apparently had for awhile ( which admittedly might be a thing, several small, outta the way areas around here and they get along fine like that and I could see the appeal )

    • @shadowkillz9606
      @shadowkillz9606 3 года назад

      Long shot, the military should fund the research for a reliable railgun instead of the current design which disintegrates after a few shots. Because railguns would be the most capable direct weapon to be mounted on a spacecraft.

    • @FlyxPat
      @FlyxPat 3 года назад +1

      They can do both. And 'star cruiser' is not a longshot. Here's the article, if you're interested.

    • @shadowkillz9606
      @shadowkillz9606 3 года назад

      @@FlyxPat I said 'long shot' not because the technology and the capability isn't there for it to become a reality, but because the congress will almost definitely reject the development of such a highly advanced project. Space Force is still just a term coined by Trump during his presidential period, but if Space Force can only truly be established, it need the current president and even next future US presidents to push the idea so that the congress will be compelled to provide even more funding to the already substantial military budget.
      And there's another problem associated with funding. Here's an analogy: Developing and building a new tank is quite simple, but doing that whilst also creating the infrastructure to support its logistics, maintenance and not to mention the troops required to be trained to use it all the whilst needing the appropriate barracks for the troops and the tanks to be be housed in. Now replace tanks with military-starship. That's the difference between building a vehicle VS a vehicle within a space force.

And I hope you learn what the word colonizing actually means and stop throwing it around every chance you get because it'll lose its meaning. Attributing a business literally setting up a launch site in the vicinity has nothing at all to do with colonization. Plus, going around Dunning-Kruger-ing everything when you have no fundamental understanding of economics isnt a good look either.

      @@sylvialiu7907 Colonization: the action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area.
      2nd definition: the action of appropriating a place or domain for one's own use.
      So tell me again how Elon Musk making his own city and terrorizing those that live there into leaving. "When launches didn't go according to plan, they experienced broken windows, debris, and brush fires" is not colonization.
      link: www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/boca-chica-residents-complain-about-space-x-2021-5%3famp
      And you don't have to tell me about my own town. What do you know about Leuven Group in the past few years buying the majority of apartments in Brownsville. Why do you think they bought them? What do you think they're gonna do when people with money start moving here? Hint: raise the prices so people like me can't afford them. Why do you think Musk donated 10 million to the revitalization of downtown? Because the mayor is the one helping him out and he has businesses downtown along with his other rich buddies. The gentrification has already begun. Don't tell me about my hometown. Maybe if you understood politics and history you would see where this is all headed.

    • @sylvialiu7907
      @sylvialiu7907 3 года назад

      @@nunya2138 "When launches didn't go according to plan, they experienced broken windows, debris, and brush fires" is literally just physics. What the hell do you want to do? Bend Newton's third law so that launches are the safest thing in the entire universe?
      Terrorizing those into leaving? They bought their houses for over 4x the asking price multiple times and offering them multiple benefits to ensure that residents of Boca Chica won't be harmed by the ongoing construction and explosions. Boca Chica is now a site of national security, NASA potentially will exercise eminent domain if necessary, the fact that the government hasn't already is pretty shocking. Those who stayed knowing the danger of launches and the active construction choose to stay their on their own accord. This is not 'terrorizing them', they've chosen not to leave even knowing their homes not having adequate plumbing, electrical systems, and a social services such as fire departments for decades. If they choose to stay so be it, if they choose to take SpaceX's offer so be it as well.
      Those people who live in Boca Chica there aren't indigenous and are colonizers themselves. You can't colonize colonizers, it doesn't make sense because no one owned the domain the in the first place. SpaceX bought unused land next to the village, no one owned that and they did not buy that from colonizing landowners. In fact everyone in America other than indigenous people are colonizers. The act of moving from state to state to buy property or establishing business being associated with gentrification is plain old stupid. Do not mistake a monetary exchange of any sort of property with "kicking out people who live there" when it's a willful exchange between both parties.
      "The action of appropriating a place or domain for one's own use" is such a loose definition that can refer to anything in the entire world such as buying a used domain, new house decor, or establishing farmland. Do not attribute the word colonization, which is associated with ethnic cleansing and appropriation of indigenous territory, with construction of a new condo or rail line. If you follow that second loose definition of colonization, everything that humans do each day would be considered as such. Any act of owning an entity and modifying it would be by definition colonization, which in a literary context is acceptable, but in reality pretty problematic. Because if every traditional proprietary exchange under socialism or capitalism would be colonization, then the word would lose it's significance and meaning entirely. Saying that apartment construction is colonization, or that public parks are colonization gentrify that word until it's traditional association with harming ethnic groups and establishing colonial ownership over them worthless.
      And I'm sorry about the corrupt state of Brownsville based on your firsthand account. Nepotism and lobbying should have no place in politics. Leaders of towns, cities, states, and countries should be barred from benefitting directly from handouts. Revitalization of economies should also consider their general population. Allocating $10M, which considered a rather small amount actually, to refurbishment should only happen only second to revitalizing social services such as healthcare or education.

    This really is misleading as far as Boca Chica is concerned. Yes SpaceX facilities are located in the sticks, but there are several decent-size cities within 60 miles of Boca Chica. And the area may have its share of economic challenges, but there are lots of recreational activities and plenty of bars and entertainment in the area. South Padre Island, one of the hottest spring break locations in the U.S., is only a short drive away. And if Brownsville, McAllen, or Harlingen aren't wild enough for you, Matamoros, Mexico is just a few miles down the road. And you can bet that housing won't cost you California prices either. You give the false impression that without Elon's Tiki bar and restaurant, all there is to do there for SpaceX employees is to roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs.
