- There are a large number of secrets in Washington, DC. In this video I will show you one of the best kept secrets!
They are ridiculously delicious and juicy! Хобби
Thanks. These particular ones are hard to find info on. I have one in the backyard over 50 years old but can never harvest it properly. They're only delicious ripe off the tree. If you dont pick them at just the right time, they are as yucky as they are beautiful in bloom. Magnificent in spring.
You're welcome. I have 3 trees growing from seeds from the this tree. Thank you for watching.
Greetings from the UK. Over here P. cerasifera is naturalised, thought to have come in with the Celts. The wild type is widespread in the south, has green leaves, never makes a very big tree and the fruits are harvestable very early (why it was likely brought into the British Isles) but not that tasty unless straight off the tree at the right time. Red or yellow, large numbers of the fruits can be seen on the verges of major roads around Hampshire where they seem to have been mixed into roadside plantings. Timber can be interesting for turnery as it is sometimes wildly red-coloured with differences between sapwood and heartwood and the colour is mostly 'fast'. Rare to see it as 'wood'.
@@anemone104 Hello! Thank you for sharing this information. I was in the UK in April 2023. I had a great time. This tree and the fruit it produces has become on of my favorites.
BELLISIMO ARBOL
GRACIAS
Just ordered 5 to plant in the UK after watching this video. Hopefully will be able to see them like this one day. Cheerss
I wish you luck. This is a beautifully colored tree. I have 3 trees growing from seeds that I collected from this tree. Yesterday I pruned them and I am attempting to root those cuttings.
Best I got 6 cherry plums trees I planted 41 yrs ago. Nothing but the best. They provided fruits for birds, beauty flowers in the spring and naturally red leafs year round.
This tree is vibrant every year. I have three cherry plum trees myself. I think I was a bird in a former life because I love cherry plums!
the ones here in UK are also purple with bright red fruit that are already edible by may. edible when unripe: crazy!
@@OsirusHandle I love the color and the fruit.
It’s in Washington DC. 12 st
Beautiful plums and leaves.
I felt guilty for eating so many.
When my children elementary schools had a pot-luck meal I would bring a few boxes with us. Funny to watch the children would all go for these red plums before any other foods that were served with happy faces.
I have one of these, it was already here when we moved in. I love it so much, but I have one question. Mine doesn't seem to produce any fruit. Do you know why or what to do to help it produce fruit? I get the flower blooms and all that but two years ago we had a real bad ice storm when I had a whole bunch of blossoms on it and now it's been struggling.
I just worked on a tree that did not produce leaves last year. I tilled the soil around the tree and fertilized it. The tree is now in leaf. I would try fruit tree fertilizer for your tree. Maybe feed your tree once or twice during this growing season.
OK I will try that. I get leaves every year and this year I'm getting the little, pretty flowers on them. So hopefully it's recovering and it'll be OK but I will try all that. Thank you.
How are the cherry plum trees grown from seeds in your garden? I also found a cherry plum tree in a local hospital very similar to the one in your video. I sowed three of them indoor in January. Now I have planted them out in my grove. I don't know how many years it will take before blooming.
Thank you for asking. This year my 3 cherry plum trees are extremely healthy and deep purple. I’m trying to be cautious because some of my maples caught a fungus. Good luck with your cherry plum trees. They will be beautiful.
The tree looks great! Do you know what variety of Cherry plum is that - Thundercloud or Newport?
Unfortunately Washington, DC does not leave identification tags on the fruit trees that are planted around the city, so I am not certain. Have you gone to see this tree yet? While I was there the last time it was flowering.
Wow. That must have been beautiful. I wanted to plant one in my yard. So I thought it would be better knowing which variety that was. But that's fine. Thanks for answering my question.
@@BeautifulMaplesAndShrubsGo all out and plant both!😋
Which variety of purple flowering plum is this? Newport, KV, Thundercloud?
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately the fruit trees that I found planted around Washington, DC are not tagged. So you will have the fruit but unless you are an expert in horticulture it is difficult to know the precise varieties. I had a Black Mulberry in my backyard.
Most people are not telling what city video is in.
I want you to go find this tree if you ever visit Washington DC. Thank you for watching for leaving a comment. I think it produces at the beginning of summer around June or July.
How do you care for this Tree ? I just put one in my Front yard a 6 foot.
Thanks for your question. This particular tree in the video is a public tree near the National Mall so I don’t care for it. I believe that at this point it is left to fend for itself. There are fruit trees all over DC. I have a large black mulberry tree in my yard. I also have 3 saplings of this Cherry Plum Tree grown from its seeds. They are 1 year old and I simply water and fertilize.
@@SyriusStarMultimedia Thank you! I just Planted my Purple leaf plum and it’s a bit Stressed out. The leaves are falling off already although I water it Plenty. I guess I have to wait to see what it does.
@@perfectbeautyfashion1930 Hopefully your tree will be ok. The only thing I can think is to ensure it is fertilized. Good luck
Can you eat this fruit??
If you want or need to, yes. It is not poisonous.
I'm worried
What are you worried about?
