It's nice to see that the monkeys pounding on typewriters trying to write the works of Shakespeare took some time out to design Mesa amps.
Another great YT video Brad! You and Lyle are my favorite amp techs. OMG ....if the existing Mesa work was factory, it's absolutely shockingly shoddy. I've never had the pain of working on a Mesa amp. Mostly old-school Fender, Marshall and Sunn gear. Amps that were meant to be repaired (thanks Leo).
This Mesa is a perfect example to show clients why it is so expensive to repair such amps! I understand why some amp techs refuse to work on Mesa amps! I love your channel ....your depth of knowledge and expertise, respectful approach to repairs and superlative Aussie humor ...YOU are a Champion! Carry on mate!
But my sample size of one has been great! Just use the graphic EQ so you don’t hear that much buzz! And you didn’t use Mesa branded caps - U hack? 😂
Julie noted.
Didn't you, Julie?
@@BradsGuitarGarage Shirley she already knew.
Estimating the repair costs for a Mesa Boogie: Pretend it's a Fender amp repair. Now take that number and multiply that figure by the square root of 12.3. It comes out perfectly. It will cost 3-1/2 x more to fix a Mesa Boogie.
Your videography has come a long way man, looking really nice!
can't wait to see it finished. having working on one of these before myself, i'm very impressed by your work ethic. that is a lot of work, and certainly not the most enjoyable work. I am very aware of mesa's foibles, but I gotta admit, i do LOOOOOOVE the way the mark III and IV's sound, and you can pry my mark IVa combo from my cold dead hands lol.
Noice work 👏 👌 👍
Don't forget to add some very expensive high tech thermal paste between the chassis and that useless stupid black heatsink. It will lower the chassis temperature by at least 0.00000000001 degrees or even more. 🥶
Looks like there’s at least one blind amp tech in the world 😉😉
WHO SAID THAT!? SHOW YOURSELF!
This is madness
Wow, I’m impressed you actually took on a ‘mesa’…..lots wouldn’t
They're usually much less of a hassle than this specimen!
After watching several of your videos... I'm nervous what lies inside my Mesa/Boogie rack mount 😅
Don't panic too much if nobody has "modded" it like this one was!
They tend to hobble on for quite some time, but when they finally give up the ghost, yes the additional labour is significant.
So tempting to cut n fit a big removable hatch in chassis like that.
Problem is you’d want to strip it to the bare chassis to do it to avoid leaving swarf inside, so you’d only be saving the next tech 10-20 years down the line the strip down work, not yourself.
@@Jonathan_Doe_ I said "tempting" not that I actually would. Though a nibbling tool and a vacuum cleaner would solve the mess problem. 10 - 20 years later could be Brad again too ;)
Friends don't let friends buy Mesa amps
Hope he got this for free because your bench fee is gonna surpass the original MSRP and import taxes. I hope.
You are providing a great public service by showing in detail the poor quality of Mesa amps. Thank you!
Just curious...is this the LAST Mesa you'll ever accept in your shop?
Nah, they can be okay, some models worse than others.
The big roadblock here was all the hacked up butcher work.
A mess of boogies
How to draw schematics according to Mesa Engineering's pretend engineers. Instead of using the professional industry standard of starting from the input and working from left to right, start right in smack the middle of the page and work outwards in a spiral, counterclockwise. Also, NEVER EVER use any straight edges, triangles, drafting machines or templates. Instead, drink 36 cups of coffee, swallow some caffeine pills, with a pint of whiskey, pull back a few (too many) bong hits and then draw everything freehand, totally ass backwards, as previously discussed. (That's my theory anyway) A Mesa Mki schematic MIGHT have gotten me a grade of D in electronics schematic drafting class. Probably a D-, if I didn't forget anything.
So basically disposable amps. When they fail you are better off to simply dump them and spend the repair budget on buying something better…
BRAD in the tech who made all those Mods. You do t know what ur doing. It’s called the Carlos/Jose/Manuel el chapped mod for mesa. Ultimate TOAN and you destroyed it
Haha, good one mate!
Simply cut all the wires that are in the way as needed. Remove the board and pots. Place these carefully in a plastic bag. Put it in the amp send it all back to the owner telling him ya couldn’t do it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Almost, mate! LOL!
I have a III green if you need any info from it
Thanks mate, but it's all sorted out now.
Farking hell
Maybe they were just tweaking.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug!
😆 🤣 😂
U found magic schematics from a crazy person? Doh, deus ex machina saves the tech!
Holly hell.... Mesa FTW... Not.
What a hunk of junk! (Phrase coined by my 3 year old nephew!
I just threw up in my mouth a little .
OMG what a shite show of an amp.
