      MrSTVR honestly there are enough casuals to where they’d probably be able to comfortably sell the dlc and make a pretty penny of it tbh. This isn’t
      SFV where they need the FGC to succeed, DB as a franchise actually has the potential to expand pass that and even if I don’t like it, they have a very high chance of continuing bullshit like this.

      JamRock Bless I agree, DBFZ will still sell like hot cakes. I don’t understand this mentality that if the FGC boycotts a huge fighting game with a very popular IP like Dragonball, that it’s over for the game. The FGC was and is still very irrelevant and tiny compared to the overall sales of DBFZ. The huge majority of sales are made up of casuals and that won’t change anytime soon.

    Too bad Toei Animation is getting greedy at the worst possible time, especially when they geoblocked their official online store to be Japan-ONLY.
    Never mind the fact the Digimon fanbase suffered thru their greed, the moment they moved the budget, writers, animators, and staff to Dragon Ball Super, yet Digimon Adventure tri. BADLY NEEDED those.
    It sucks the overall Dragonball fanbase is suffering from Toei's greed for higher fees for rights and lust towards it, despite the fact Toei received the anime rights for Digimon as compensation for pre-merger Bandai, getting the exclusive toy and videogame rights for Dragonball since the 1980s.
    If Toei is serious about a quick billion yen, they should sell the Digimon anime rights back to its IP owner, Bandai Namco. Pre-merger Bandai already owns Digimon since 1997.

By doing so, they will be always on top of events and such that they can profit from. Think of it like RUclips’s broken copyright system. Creators of their “product”(be it music, video, or any thpe of media) may come after your video, even if the footage of their “property” is placed for even half of a second. Why? Something about licensing and the complexity of playing music from multiple composers/franchises/companies was probably too much to deal with sorting out, so Evo disallowed most stages. Ironically, Smash4 was the 1st smash where every stage could be altered into a flat "omega" version specifically so competitive folk could duel while still seeing/hearing visuals & music from multiple franchises. Furthermore, I never really saw these "omega" stages being used in tournaments outside Evo either, but it was likely because of variations in the walls/ledges/dimensions that overcomplicated things for the community anyway.

    While I'm not going to say Toei wasn't part of it, let's not forget that this game has a monumental dropoff around the same time MVCI was officially declared dead. In fact, its playerbase has been in decline and in general has not been eliciting much hype for awhile. Toei may be blocking them out of tournaments, but that didn't negate the fact that the, BY DESIGN, was meant to be simple and easy to pick up and by result didn't have an incredible amount of depth behind it. After awhile, you're mostly doing the same shit over and over and over again and all the flashiness wears off as its lack of mechanical complexity reared its ugly head.
    I'm not shitting on the game for it, but these are naturally the type of fighters that fall off quickly, not just because people get bored of playing it, but it gets boring to watch too.
    Toei has its share of the blame, but we can't pretend that this game wasn't already in the process of dying to begin with.
    Everyone laughed about it killing Marvel, forgot about it for a little while, dropped the game, and then started asking "Where did the playerbase go?" as if they, too, hadn't left it for dead. Then everyone started mourning the Marvel franchise as if months before they hadn't been parading its corpse in the streets like an achievement.

    Maybe mr wiz needs to sneak toei some of his legendary butthash and it'll be good. But for real this is some bs. Pull the collective sticks out of ur butts and let them have a tournament. It's your property and you can do whatever you want with it, but this move is just going to hurt business. People are going to stop buying/using your product and then you file for bankruptcy a few years down the line.

    Not sure if all the truths are out yet but I'm OK with it not being streamed/played at non official events, etc. if that's will (and right) of the owners of this huge franchise.
    The game is what's important to me but it does suck for the pros who's already invested a lot.

      It's an extremely scummy thing to do when a lot of people make careers off organizing competitive scenes for these games which only do good, so it makes 0 sense to do something like this

      *Wise* words and something aspiring pros (and companies) should consider. Aspiring Pros: Study the history and recent actions of the company who's game you are investing your energy and your life into and most importantly be aware that *most* of them plan very short ("2 years" if you're lucky, DBZ wasn't.) life cycles for them to capitalize on the rising popularity of fighting games and sell their next one. Companies: Be *public* about your commitment to your game. Sure, have life cycles but be aware that you can make just as much money (and attract the top talent) by making your game a *platform.* Please don't *start* with an IP you don't control. Build a great game and *make* those characters an IP. In other words do this Toei/Sushihaha thing in complete *reverse.* If what you are doing is *publicly and obviously* going to support the pros and people we all love watching, then the FCG will support *you.* :)

    Toei doesn’t have that much power. They only have the rights for DB animation. Bandai has the rights for merch and games, and Shueshia has the rights to the IP itself. So it’s either Bandai or Shueshia that are causing this shitstorm.

    • @DeathBringer769

      Shueisha are the true IP/rights holder for the entire franchise across all entertainment mediums, so it's likely them getting in the way again. I think the Team4Star problems was them as well putting pressure on Toei and making them handle it as well.

    Toei is the worst. A while back, when my channel was monetized before the adpocalypse, I did a 40 minutes video which contained a couple of minutes of the Fist of the North Star anime; I immediately received a copyright claim by Toei, saying the video couldn't be monetized, despite half of said fragment being without sound and despite me citing the anime (which is basically publicity for Fist of the North Star). Greedy Toei is greedy, they have been the only ones that I've had such a lame experience with.

    I heard such good things about this game then read recently fans were disappointed. Do they know that tournaments sells games? Everyone there bought a copy, tons of watchers who haven't played-potential customers, it sells season passes if a tournament is active.
    That's just bad business.
    But is it really illegal to run a tournament? You got people sitting down playing legally purchased copies of the game

  • @LeonV2-
    @LeonV2- 5 лет назад +1

    It seems simple to me. TOEI owns the IP. They see other companies making money from their IP. They don't get a cut they can't use it.
    These tournaments make money. Not only for the people holding them, but for twitch and other streaming sites. TOEI has every right to demand a cut. I'm sure these people don't agree, so TOEI pulls threats of a lawsuit.
    Let's not all go villainizing TOEI when everyone is after the same thing. MONEY.

    Toei is just an animation house, maybe the one we should be looking at is Shueisha (Shonen Jump) as they are the ones who OWN ALL the rights of Dragon Ball as a franchise

  • @DeathBringer769
    @DeathBringer769 5 лет назад +1

    1:04 Shueisha* is the actual copyright/IP holder that gets unnecessarily idiotic and is interfering with tournaments here, not Toei which just handles the animation/movie side. People keep conflating the two or flat-out mistakenly stating that Toei owns the full IP when it doesn't. Shueisha is the actual IP owner of the entirety of Dragon Ball. Toei is just licensed (long time licensing partners, but still technically just licensed) by Shueisha to them to handle the animation/movie side. Shueisha has a history of this stuff too. The Team4Star stuff was likely pressure from their Shueisha overlords as well. And I won't deny that big Japanese companies in general these days are often out of touch with their Internet policies, like Nintendo (otherwise unrelated to this) has shown as well. They have a lot of backwards/overly-controlling practices out there in terms of the modern Internet ecosystem.
