Many naive westerners still perceive China as the emitters of carbon. Little do they know that the US was and has been a main contributor of carbon pollution.
Remember that the western hemispehere was not much better, and whole citys where in black smoke. China did this at warpspeed. it took the west at least 100 year to not have their citys in black smoke.

Renewables are the less polluting and efficient type of energy available at present , ice engines are 32% efficient the other 68% is lost in the form of heat that doesn't include the energy spent in extraction , refining , transportation etc.
The same is with coal , gas , hydrogen , ethanol and other forms of fuel , these fuels are to be used selectively as to minimize catastrophic global warming , pollution and contamination , care for this planet ( it's the only one we have ).
