    The reason why those emulators didn't support 4:3 is because they were actually in 4:3. The Wii only renders a 4:3 framebuffer, which is stretched out to 16:9. Whenever you're running a game in widescreen, it is anamorphic.
    With the exception of games on the Xbox that actually run at 720p, that's how all of the 6th and 5th gen consoles did it. I know the Wii isn't 6th gen, but it is still relevant because it's just a super GameCube.

    The Wii still makes the best little emulator box you can get. Having a single system that can output an accurate 240p signal for CRTs and the 480p for modern TVs is awesome.
    Nintendont could somewhat be considered an emulator though, it'd be worth looking at in the future. It runs Gamecube games in Wii mode. Beyond letting one play Gamecube on non-BC Wiis and WiiUs, it also lets you use Wiimote+Nunchuck or the Classic controller for Gamecube games, lets you quit to the Wii menu without power cycling, and use virtual memory cards. Mario Kart Arcade GP and F-Zero AX work in it as well, but MK Arcade GP 2 doesn't yet.

    • @CowboyJoseph64
      @CowboyJoseph64 4 года назад +8

      That's weird, because I located a MK GP2 ISO and played it with nintendon't and I don't notice any issues, it even saves to the Mario Card properly. I haven't even found a MK GP1 ISO yet, just sometimes a MAME version.

    • @piratebear3126
      @piratebear3126 4 года назад +3

      @@ggg235 Most 1080 screens handle 480i/p signals just fine over component video as long as you have decent quality cables. I have a similar setup, and use my modern TV for Wii, GameCube, and N64 games at 480p, while I use the CRT to run 8/16 bit emulators at true 240p.
      If you have to use only 1 TV, most 240p emulators also support a 480p line doubled mode that modern TVs handle much better than real consoles' signals. All games will look good on either TV if set up properly, so pick whichever you'd rather play on.

    I love those videos, when i bought my xbox classic i wasn't really aware of what i was going to get, the only videos i could find on the emulators available were tutorials or showing the interface and when there was some gameplay it was usually Super Mario World, Sonic or another basic game that any emulator should run without issues, so videos like this are very helpful, if i could give you an advice maybe talk about some features the emulators have like save states, rewinding or fast forward, this could be obvious but some emulators can be quite limited, testing games that are hard to emulate like Virtua Racing, the sound in Earthworm Jim 2, Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension which if i'm not mistaken took a long time until you could play it on an emulator, or Top Gear 3000 also for the SNES, it's the only game that uses a DSP4 chip and it only became playable in 2007, looking forward to the next videos.

    THANK YOU. The most in-depth view of the current emulators on the Wii. You did an excellent job considering how many you looked at. There are some things you may have overlooked, some emulators actually are probably working as good as the real hardware if set up correctly but I do understand that a lot of the computer based emulators need prior knowledge of the system and often end up being too much trouble for most to bother with. When it comes to WiiMednafen I am in total agreement. I have no idea why more are not singing the praises of this fine emulator. I don't know how I haven't heard of WiiMednafen, but it sounds like the overall best emulator for Wii Homebrew.
    I also remember the first emulators on the Wii back when the Twilight Hack was still the method of accessing homebrew, and the "Homebrew Channel" wasn't an actual channel yet. There were some older versions of SNES, NES, and Genesis emulators, and not a whole lot else that I can remember.

    I used to play emulators on my Wii all the time. The best are the Snes and GBA. They seem to run almost 100% for me. 64 games are playable, but usually too glitchy to really enjoy fully. I'm glad I'm not the only one that had trouble loading roms in some of the other systems especially the PC, Dos, and Mame emulators. They aren't very user friendly plus with lots of compatibility errors, it can be very stressful to even get working. Thanks for going through all this effort, I know how much work this was. There's also nintendon't for gamecube. Its not really emulating because it uses the gamecube hardware built in, but it would be nice to include.

    The true blessing and to me the #1 reason to use a Wii to emulate old games instead of my gaming PC, is that the Wii can effortlessly connect to a CRT TV and at least here in Europe, if connected through a SCART RGB cable is capable of displaying those games at real 240p with authentic scanlines. Even if the emulation itself might not be 100% accurate in some cases, it doesn't get more authentic then that ! No modern console/computer can do that. I'll keep my Wii 4ever 😁

      It's very easy to do. Download cIOS manager and the IOS you need (just google how to play .wbfs Wii games on your Wii) and once you inatall it, you'll be able to use USBLoader without it crashing.
      EDIT: It seems that you can just use a WAD manager to install all the necessary IOS. I would recommens doing that. There is a tutorial on RUclips by Tech James showing how to fix issues with USB Loader by doing this.

    You forgot to mention Snes9x RX, which is a GX fork focused on full speed for heavy games, like the FX ones.
    BTW, mGBA is *not* the WiiMednafen's core, but an old version of VisualBoy Advance. Also, the reason why you were seeing extra things emulating Game Gear on GenesisPlusGX is because you had the GG Screen option set to Extended like when you're playing on a Power Base Converter, a misconfiguration on your part.

    Fantastic work! While I am grateful for the emulation community and the work on the Wii, I must say I will take my PlayStation classic, or even OG XBox, over this. The PlayStation classic can emulate almost all of these systems (with GC and Wii/Wiiware being obvious exceptions) much better, though it is not easy to do if you are looking for near perfect playability and presentation. What’s more, the harder to emulate systems that weren’t even worth discussing play well, including 3dO, CD-I, Amiga CD TV and 32, FM Towns, Atari Jaguar, Wattara Supervision, LCD games, and many more. DC, SS, DS, Turbo CD and others you had trouble working are also much better. And thanks to KMFDManic and others, there are still regular updates being made to it. Of course there are many other stand-alone emulator boxes that are available that are worth your time and money also. With that said, I love this system , but mostly for Wii/GC games. Finding wads and installing VC games is a great feature as well. I will be modding my Wii U next to see what it can do!

With the Default setting in Crash Bandicoot the FPS hovers in the low-mid 50s (as seen in your footage) but with it disabled the FPS readout remains at 59.81 (apparently this is actual full speed) outside of some brief hitches.

However, I installed and extracted it and it doesn't seem to have any of the related emulator cores and a folder to hold roms in. Do you happen to know a little more about this and how to set it up? There isn't really any info on how to do so, which sucks since there's some systems that can only be emulated on Wii through here. I'm probably just stupid, but some help would be much appreciated
