Why does literally everyone ignore the fact that the spirits are going back to their own world? The 'release spirit' page literally sends them back that way and says you 'sent them back to their world', they aren't permanently dead and stuck as spirits in the end. That's why the cutscene is called 'restoration'.
And when you keep the spirits you free they're not forced to stay. They stick around because they want to help you (the player) defeat the light and dark and restore balance to the world.

Here is a possible idea for this theory. Galeem represents what happens when there's too much order. Dharkon represents what happens when there is too much freedom. We need to keep it all perfectly balanced. As all things should be.
My take is that the roster cannot truly ever be too big as long as there in attention and care put into each character for aesthetics and balance, the hardcore crowd will adapt and evolve a massive meta while the casual players will be amazed at all the different options they have; Ultimate should be a base to just keep adding more and more into for years to come so we won’t need a “new” Smash game.
Problem with that is the Switch won't be relevant forever. Eventually there's gonna be a new generation of consoles and the one Nintendo makes is going to have a new smash bros. game, every generation since the N64 has had one. In a perfect world, this would be the way to do it. But even though Nintendo tends to prioritize their products over business, business is still important. @Donald Trump They can't do that eventually either. If a roster with 70+ characters sounds absurd, try one with 100, or 500, or 1,000. Even to this day, I STILL don't like thinking of these characters as just toys or figures, and have attempted to make these events work as a "real" crossover ever since Brawl! The trickiest part this game though, that was explaining why spirits of fighters exist (outside of Classic mode rewards, as those obviously have no connection to World of Light).
This proves MatPat's theory (Not saying MatPat's theory is fact or is better than this theory, just saying if his theory is correct, this is his proof)
I’d like to think Tabuu represents societal standards and how they can control your will. Whenever Tabuu was defeated there was no more standards to overcome, leaving only your choices. (I’m going on the theory that the Smash Bros Canon is all inside a growing kid’s (The Player) imagination while they’re playing with their toys) The choices are determined by what you believe to be rationally right and what the unwanted consequences are, Galeem and Dharkon. However you have free will, the toys of the fighters, will fight for their right for free will. And it all ends and the deed is done, everything is saved but gone, however you remember the times you’ve played with your toys and let them live on with their stories by being part of your memory.
Galeem didn't have a backup plan? What about the part where he created an army of fake fighters and forced the Spirits to posses them and battle anyone they encountered? Seems like a pretty good backup plan for the one or two fighters that might have escaped.
Also, it seems to be hinted that Galeem and Dharkon were replicating Master Hand and Crazy Hand over and over, in a similar way that they created puppet fighters.
I find the interactions between Galeem and Dharkon interesting. Galeem seems to be the sort of entity that simply wanted order in an otherwise chaotic Nintendo universe. So many characters, each unique in their personalities and tones, Galeem may have wanted to make a world where something as serious as metroid can coexist with the campy world of Pikmin. The world of light was neatly constructed and attempted to make the different worlds exist codependently, all while giving the spirits bodies to inhabit in order to have a purpose in this otherwise empty world. Then we have Dharkon, he seems more like an opportunist, and cowardly swooped in as Galeem was injured. I honestly would have been content with just Galeem, Dharkon just didn't have the same gravitase as Galeem, but he does strike me as a proper adversary to Galeem.
You're comparing a collect-a-thon, stat based RPG to a fighting/party game. One is okay with having hundreds of characters, as each character is just a different collection of statistics and numbers that are calculated against your opponent's statistics and numbers to deal damage. The other is a real-time battle game where each animation has to have a well thought out arc, number of frames, active hit boxes, ext. Design factor withstanding, programing a new Pokemon probably takes a day at the most. Programing a new Smash character can take many MONTHS to tweak up and fine tune to make sure it is good to be distributed.
The Autism theory still fits into this as Dharkon and Galeem are essentially two sides of the same coin and they are controlling the fighters and master hands. Dharkon and Galeem both serve a similar to Tabuu in the Subspace Emissary.
I feel like the story as a whole was a message of sorts, because normally light is good, thats how its always depicted, and then the fighters all die due to the light and your whole journey is you fighting the light until you kill it, and without light darkness comes in and takes over, and you fight the darkness to bring balance. Then you fight both the light and the dark to bring full balance to everything, the game shows you can't have to much light and you can't have to much darkness, that you need to find the balance between the two for true peace
But in the direct, Sakurai said that when you dismiss a spirit, they're going back to THEIR world. As in the one they came from. So when I saw the true ending for the first time, that's what I thought was happening en masse.
What if Galeem and Dharkon were like ancient beings that just stayed out of things until A Master and Crazy hand defected from each faction and joined to make smash, realizing its potential to ultimately destroy him, Galeem decided to make a new world, and a new smash bros using the puppets, but clearing forgetting about the pink ball of Death
I think the theme of Adventure Mode or the message they were trying to convey is balance. Think about this. You have two gods. One represents light. The other represents dark. They seek to override their opposition. Dharkon wants rewrite the universe in darkness. Galeem wants to rewrite in light. Regardless everyone loses if either of them wins. The lack of balance leads to chaos. That balance is what Kirby and his allies were trying to achieve. The balance between light and dark. Order and freedom. Only then would the world know what real peace is. Everyone in the end united and triumphed in saving the world they held dear to them. Teamwork prevailed. The gods realizing the error of their ways revert into spirits themselves realizing that perhaps things are better off unified rather then opposed.
Lockstin & Gnoggin: 11:33 - 11:45 Aichi Sendou: [Thinking why not both?] Aichi: I see, my struggle is over. Avatar of light and shadow, a new strength born out of compromise! Ride! Majesty Lord Blaster! Yes, it’s a Cardfight Vanguard original series reference. I just couldn’t resist it, so sorry not sorry.
Except Master Hand and Crazy Hand are the true gods of the Smash verse. It was Master Hand who brought the trophies to life, and Master Hand reveals he was HOLDING BACK, to us the player, rather than the smashers, when you play as him, and annihilate an army of puppet smashers. Galeem and Dharkon don't create anything, all they can do is copy what's already there, while Master Hand is constantly reinventing his games.
Hasn't Sakurai basically said after literally every Smash Bros game after the original that it would be the last one? At this point, I can't even start to believe it.
Now, I didn't see the neutral/true ending being everyone being killed, but rather all the spirits that you saved from collective bondage from the two dark and light entities returning to their respective worlds. While it is a game mechanic, recall when you dismiss a spirit to get stuff from it, you are said to be sending it back to its own world, presumably to go back into its own body and resume its own franchise/universe. At the end of the true ending, its entirely possible that you basically did a mass dismissing of spirits (or rather, the two dying gods did) and the beautiful galaxy like collection of spirits swirling away into the distance was the visual of that. Perhaps the fighters got swept up in it too, returning to their respective worlds at the end of Sakurai's Smash Bros Canon. Returning to their lives, their battles, their own stories. The next time they all come together, it will effectively be for the first time again. And you better believe it will happen again - Nintendo is not going to sit on a cash cow like Smash and NOT use it. Even if its not Sakurai at the helm. Let's just hope whoever gets that torch has even half as much passion as Sakurai did.
*Controversial* Subspace was nothing spectacular. What made it was the interactions and cutscenes. However! Subspace is something that can easily be improved upon and developed. World of light is a lesser product by comparison. The only saving grace is it's bosses, but they're too far between god knows how many spirits. It's just a hassle. Why settle for something less. Why not improve?
Because they didn't want to use all their resources on it like in brawl. A lot of the work in this game was in the base fighting. It's honestly impressive that we even got an Adventure mode in the first place.
The main game play of subspace if modernized would have been great, the story of subspace was amazing, ROB/the ancient ministers story was so sad, the only good parts of the story of WoL was "oh there's another world, guess that means there are more epic bosses that I have to spend nearly an hour of mindless battles that feel the exact same to get to there"
Because Sakurai hates spoilers and all of SSE was leaked, it's the entire reason why Sm4sh didn't have an adventure mode so Sakurai made a comprise, failing to understand why people liked SSE in the first place.
@@mattwo7 I really just hope that wasn't Sakurai's reason for not having it in Sm4sh, it feels almost childish, like if the pokemon games removed their cutscenes because people were posting them on the internet
Here's what I think the story is. As Sakurai said, it is much simpler that Subspace so Ill take that in my idea. Galeem is the being that controls light, is the ruler of the World of light and the one that controls the Master Hands. Dharkon is the being that controls darkness, is ruler of The Dark Realm and the one that controls the Crazy Hands. Both beings are at a constant war with each other and Galeem tried to trap all the fighters in order for them to serve him as the army against Dharkon. But when Galeem was defeated, his puppet fighters switched towards Dharkon. And as for the true ending, all the spirits has returned to the real world. Sakurai said in the final direct that everything is still toys from a child and the goal for everyone in it is to go back to the real world. Also, the bright light all the spirits were going to is the same one used to send spirits back to the real world to get their cores for crafting new spirits. So yeah, I think most people are kinda overthinking it butI understand that because the final Smash direct did bore everyone in the spirits section.
Pretty sure the swirl of spirits are actually every free spirits choice to go somewhere else like possibly a new world or a way to return to there own world as some stay behind because they like the world they livw in and want to return to there physical forms.
To be fair, he was ready to stop after the first game, and Nintendo more or less threatened him into continuing. So it's unfortunately not really up to him.
I think thus will be his last Smash game as a lead developer role. If there's another future Smash on a future Nintendo console, the lead developer role will probably go to someone else (possibly recommended by Sakurai), and Sakurai himself will maybe serve as only an adviser. Similar to how Koizumi was the new lead for Mario Odyssey, with Miyamoto serving as only guidance advisor.
I still think that Galeem is definitely something that crossed over from Bayonetta. The entire series is based on biblical lore, both angelic and demonic.
Meta Theory Galeem represents the super needy fanbase, Galeem taking over the characters and setting the world exactly as he wants (playing god, adding Bandana Dee as DLC, etc.), if you beat Dharkon in the final battle. Dharkon, represents either smash haters, media, or outside parties influencing the smash series; which depicted here, ultimately leads to all of the characters dying (beating Galeem instead). This shows a balance Sakurai wants to maintain between what the fans want, and time constraints / business / effort put in / etc. If you pander to the fans, it won’t be a good game. If you only go for money and ignore the fans it won’t be a good game. A compromise between the two is the ultimate meaning of the story mode. This is just a theory, a ga-

Oh how the jokes about Sephiroth being in Smash in this video have aged.
3:10 Funny thing is Sephiroth is now in Smash... And more Final Fantasy music.
I don't mind you coming out with your videos later than everyone else, as long as they're superior to everyone else's. You always deliver.
that Galeem = Sephiroth comment aged... intrestingly
3:12 Hey, it it isn't Sephiroth, cause he actually just slice him up with one blow! So the theories were wrong lol
I loved Subspace Emissary. World of Light should've been like that.
This proves MatPat's theory
(Not saying MatPat's theory is fact or is better than this theory, just saying if his theory is correct, this is his proof)
World of Night when Sakurai
Takes a break
I see you in the comment section of every video I watch.
Just defeat Galeem the 1st time.
There you go.
Then sephiroth came out of nowhere and makes itself a villian
Meanwhile there's Dharkon just sitting in a corner being ignored by Lockstin.
3:10
Well this aged well.
Galeem is a Tyrant, Dharkon is an anarchist.
-Galeem is Capitalism, Dharkon is communism, which one is good ? The answer is none-
I'm I the only person who realizes that cliff is also in smash 4 new fighters joining the smash roster
Dude there are almost 1000 pokemon and you're gonna tell me the smash roster is too big at under 100?
You're comparing a collect-a-thon, stat based RPG to a fighting/party game.
One is okay with having hundreds of characters, as each character is just a different collection of statistics and numbers that are calculated against your opponent's statistics and numbers to deal damage.
The other is a real-time battle game where each animation has to have a well thought out arc, number of frames, active hit boxes, ext.
Design factor withstanding, programing a new Pokemon probably takes a day at the most. Programing a new Smash character can take many MONTHS to tweak up and fine tune to make sure it is good to be distributed.
3:10
2 years later
SEPHIROTH IS HERE!!
3:17
Aged about as well as milk.
3:08 the irony of that line when viewed nowadays.
"Square wouldn't allow more music in this anyway."
Well this aged like milk
I’m kinda happy that Spirits and Galeem are in
They bring back the one thing we missed imagination
So watching this now and seeing you mentioning sephiroth is just a crazy theory...well look who's now in smash.
The roster can never get too big
Looking at this to this day, that guy is right. Sephiroth got in and we're getting more final fantasy music
Lockstin & Gnoggin: 11:33 - 11:45
Aichi Sendou: [Thinking why not both?]
Aichi: I see, my struggle is over. Avatar of light and shadow, a new strength born out of compromise! Ride! Majesty Lord Blaster!
Yes, it’s a Cardfight Vanguard original series reference. I just couldn’t resist it, so sorry not sorry.
Plot twist gallem is Steve from Minecraft
I want this to be real
Galeem is sams from earthbound
Nice theory...
*KONO DIO DA!*
You allow suicide to exist
But then who is Steve Smash Bros? OHHHHH!!
Yo, you predicted sephiroth! You must be some kind of prophet!
Can confirm, not Sephiroth.
That being said Sephiroth is canonical the strongest character currently.
@6:32-.-“A JRPG is not a JRPG unless a group of teenagers uses the power of friendship to defeat God” -Yatzy of zero punctuation.
15:08 COULD be his last Smash. That's not a guarantee.
"IT'S NOT SEPHIROTH EITHER!!!"
That aged well.
its funny cause sephiroth kills galeem a year later and yes we do get more ff music
The meaning is Light and Darkness:"You cant have one without the other, love and the marriage love and the marriage"
Little did Lockstin know that Sephiroth did join in,and he killed Galeem in one swing. XDDDDDDDDD
I like how Galeem is a pun for gleam but no one notices that Dharkhon doesn't just mean Dark but instead it is a pun for darken
And they show sephiroth slicing galeem in half
*Controversial*
Subspace was nothing spectacular.
@@aetriandimitri190 Pretty sure that was the official reason...
Once I get a Nintendo Switch, I need Smash Ultimate and Pokemon Let's Go on it.
Pretty sure the swirl of spirits are actually every free spirits choice to go somewhere else like possibly a new world or a way to return to there own world as some stay behind because they like the world they livw in and want to return to there physical forms.
That first idea for who Galeem is was what I thought
coming back to watch this after sephiroth came out
Sakura has been saying this may be his last Smash, for the last 3 games. I'll believe it when it happens.

Meta Theory
Galeem represents the super needy fanbase, Galeem taking over the characters and setting the world exactly as he wants (playing god, adding Bandana Dee as DLC, etc.), if you beat Dharkon in the final battle.
This is just a theory, a ga-
Subspace was better fight me
Okay we’ll “SETTLE IT IN SMASH!!”.
It would be no contest
Questionable Logic it was
World of Light has better gameplay but needs more cutscenes and brawl had good cutscenes but the gameplay was not great. Change my mind?
I liked it, but I like WOL more.
Sephiroth was added to Smash and he was revealed descending from Galeem. Sephiroth is Galeem confirmed?
Light isn't good, Darkness isn't bad.
Manicheism is a lie.
We need a balance of the both of them, Formation and Destruction.
Chaos !
Chaos !
You can do everything !
With the Will of yours.
Now Tetsuya Nomura takes the helm & Smash crosses over with Kingsom Hearts. Thank you, Sephiroth
I bought Luicina,Corrin,Bayonetta,Inking,and Palutena .
Paultina = Pauline+Giratina
I can't think of all the amiibo I bought off the top of my head.
Only one I have is Daisy’s first release. I’ll get her Smash one too 😍
OMG, the reference of Peanuts when talking to adults!!! OMG!!!! Love it!!!
Remember when these guys made a video on Smash Ultimate being a port when it first got announced? Yeah, me neither.
It literally took me reading Dharkon's name to realize that Galeem was also a pun.
You know. I haven't played this game, and unfortunately I likely never will. I don't have the money to buy the system, or the games. But I enjoy watching your videos. They make me feel like I'm apart of something. Even if it's not the game's particular community, I still feel like I'm in the know.
And I like that.
Josh was on to something. 😂
3:08 this aged well lol
I always found you as a competitor to Game Theory, glad to see you aren't stuck solely as a Poketuber
I remember along time ago I had a theory about Ultra Necrozma being based on a seraphim angel but some one said it was stupid and it didn't make Since because it only had 4 wings when they both clearly have 6 wings and both are burning with light.😇The only different is Necrozma is a dragon.
Seraphim are dragons too. So you were somewhat right
Pit vs Galeem
Renaissance Angel vs Biblically Accurate Angel
They are the SAME
