Thai Air will always have a special place in my heart. It is the airline i flew to the United States when immigrated here in 94. I don't recall the specific plane, most likely a 747 since it was an overseas flight from Korea to LA. I was just a little kid, barely 6 years old. I have a winged pin from that flight but don't remember if a crew member gave it to me, or if it was a kid's pin they had as a souvenir. Anyways, good to see Thai air is still going strong in today's competitive market.

I had once tried out the TG first class. There was sufficiently enough time for lounge and Spa on a 2.5-hour basis. So I guess he had tried them out during the precedent waiting time.

Waited; since if I wanted to fly the A380 with all exclusive first class, the lounge looked perfectly fine to me to spend much more time while having a meal or asking them for another round of massage or just window shopping and exploring the airport.

This is by far the best travel review I've ever seen. The descriptions tell you what you need to know, the slow mo filming could be soporific, but somnambulistic is a better way to put it. It's relaxed. And there was never any whinging about changing the flight.

I would probably have chosen the same way as you (B747). Apart from time savings, many airlines are removing this beauty from their routes and it will be harder to enjoy it in the future. A beautiful memory in the Queen of the skies ;)

    Another excellent video!
What would I do? It depends......
First of all shit happens and it's better to be on the ground when it does.
    For me, numerous factors.....
    1. What/Where did I need to be the next day - work/vacation ?
    2. What did they offer you for the 8 hours, hotel room and a meal or as a 1st Class pax back to the lounge ?
    3. Cash compensation or coupon ? Or points ??
    4. Since you exited and then could have re-entered the lounge, another 1-hour treatment ?
    5. And finally one extra night in Bangkok can be way more fun than one first night in Munich (if that's your thing)
You admitted you had booked that flight for the A380, so probably you should have waited IMO.

It was actually it was good that you re-booked on B747 because most of the B747s flying worldwide will retire by 2020 & only freighter versions will be left. The A380 trip can be done again too as A380 will be there for more time.

An exquisitely presented trip report. I can understand how disappointed you must have been that the A380 had technical difficulties, but I feel this was compensated by such wonderful First Class service in the B747. The Business cabin looked impressive also. I have seen this layout before and think that the idea of having a galley on the other side of the wall is very good. Incidentally, what you chose for your main meal was exactly what I would have chosen. We both must have fantastic 'taste'. Thanks once again for sharing this top notch report. (PS: the temperature difference between Thailand and Munich must have come as a bit of a shock).

15:22 Exquisite critically-acclaimed 2006 vintage champagne. Approx $200-$400 per bottle.
Also, after watching perhaps 50 first-class airline trip reports, I consider this flight's meal service to be the best presentation.

Would I wait? Do I HAVE to get where I'm going? Am I on a strict schedule? In the lounge area where I would be waiting for 8 hours, is there a bathroom close by? ( I am gifted with a tiny, weak bladder) Is there a lounge chair so I can get my legs up? WiFi? A place to haul out my laptop and tablet?
Hmmmm. Better yet, just get me on a plane going anywhere, and spare the lounge staff the torment. ;)
The heat and humidity have been dreadful in Ontario this month. There have been forest fires in Northern Ontario, as well as in other parts of Canada. All of our igloos are melting! So to see the SNOW on the ground at Munich, THAT'S surreal!! I know the trip was taken in February, but the reminder of cold and snow....

This is a great video capture of the unexpected fate in traveling situation..should you, shouldn't you, and beside missing the A380 experience, you saw and us viewers unexpecting visuals of Thai's awarding 747 flight ( the wall...which i'd be bummed to be sitting next to a wall as my view, and feel cheated and ripped off ).
Thai is one on my list to travel FC, and you showed the amazing First Class footage of what we know BKK provides.

Thank you for sharing your journey. The 747 is Tg's workhorse between BKK and SYD, you have to be careful as you can get TG'd and end up on the older configuration. One of the main issues with flying F on this route is how hot they have the cabin, nearly every trip I have to ask to have the temp turned down, Having said that the ground service in BKK is fantastic.

Thai must be the only airline in the world that requires its cabin staff to change uniforms, one for walking through the terminal, and another once on the airplane. It’s a wonderful touch, though completely unnecessary in this current world of blasé, jaded, unkempt and barely well-mannered passengers.

Varig didn't have a separate uniform for the terminal, but it did have a different uniform for serving meals on board. Flight attendants put on a bowtie and a jacket and dressed like waiters. Frankly, I found that not really classy, just kitsch, but there were passengers who liked that.

    Hi LTE!
Great trip report, shame about missing the A380.. but i would have chosen to fly the queen of the skies as well. I have to say the communication about the delay was a bit poor with just a small sign on paper.
The flight and food look pretty nice though! I’m sure somebody has mentioned it but KLMs 747s have that big galley to the right of the plane as well, with eco comfort next to it. First time i saw business class next to it here.

I would have expected them to put me up in a decent hotel for 24 hours until the next day's flight!

If my final destination is Munich and I’ll just transit in Paris I’ll definitely take this flight as I’ll miss the connecting flight to Munich anyway. But if I’m heading for Paris I don’t mind waiting for 8 hours given that lounge lol! Anyway, great vid! I miss flying on the 747. Still the most beautiful plane IMO. 👍

Coddiwompling Miguel I agree. The B747 is the most beautiful plane ever built

That first class seat looks old and small. you should have waited.

Perhaps if you waited in the lounge for the next flight would be ok because despite all those people lounging with their bags on chairs you could have a spa. That footballer type who pushed his way out looked bad too were the other passengers abusing him on the way out? Hehe nice video although have you thought private jet as an option??!

Would have waited in that "unpleasant" 1st class lounge.

You literally have a couch and private room to yourself, what's so unpleasant about that? Also, you've got whatever food you want, made to order!
