THIS is the song that embodies everything that Mary means to our black culture . I'm sure she would even say so herself . Mary's music and survivor spirit is why she our Queen 👑 .
That’s that Roy Ayer’s “Sunshine” that you hear. Iconic classic…
Ironicall verytime youi hear him perform that song song now he always ends it with "Thank You Mary J Blige"
In the Straight Outta Compton movie, Dr Dre was laying on the floor listening to the original song in his headphones when he was supposed to go to an interview his mom had hooked up.
The Roy Ayers classic was heavily sampled…some of the more notable examples:
BRAND NUBIAN - WAKE UP
FUNKDOOBIEST - DEDICATED
ERULE - LISTEN UP
TRENDS OF CULTURE - VALLEY OF THE SKINZ
JOEY BADA$$ - SHINE
It was also recorded by a group Roy Ayers produced by the name of RAMP in 1977 The one attributed to Mr Ayers was recorded in 1976. The RAMP version was slower, and I'm fairly sure that was their vocals on the 1976 version.
Yes Bro! Good Times Man.
This whole entire album is a certified CLASSIC…
yep
Probably the greatest R&B album ever made, pound for pound
The fact that you picked up on her pain on your 1st time listening speaks volumes. And since this song has come I'm sure it has saved many many lives as much of her music has.
That’s why I fuck with Mary J Blige, Tupac, DMX, TLC , Micheal Jackson, Janet Jackson etc... real music with deep meaning

Her best album hands down!!! Even the thugs was listening to this back N 94
That's facts . We was grimy hip hop heads but it wasn't nothing for us to go from Illmatic, to Ready To Die, to My Life album . Just the homies and couple of our homegirl rolling up phillies and vibing .
REVIEW THE ENTIRE "MY LIFE" ALBUM......EASILY HER GREATEST ALBUM, TOTALLY WORTH IT....TRUST ME
Still ... 👏👏👏
Absolutely! That is why she deserves to be in the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class!
CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 QUEEN! You deserve it! 👏👍🏽
She is a vocal beast! She keeps it real! Authentic! ❤️😎
You are exactly right about her going through something. Mary said in an interview this album was her favorite album because she said she was at her worst when making the album and it saved her life. I'm talking drugs, alcohol and an abusive relationship w/ K-Ci Hailey, lead singer of the R&B group Jodeci. Make sure you watch her documentary "My Life" on Amazon Prime Video. It explains fully her process of making the album and reactions from her fans.
The back story of this song/album always brings me to tears. She was really in a dark, depressing place. She said she wanted to die during this time and she was like 23/24 years old but she had so much abuse and heart break and other things built up from her childhood. Plus she was drinking a lot to cope through the pain. I relate to this entire album and it always makes me cry so hard. This song just hit different 🥺💔💔💔
Mary J changed RnB, collabs, and to a lesser extent Hip Hop as a whole with her 1st album. Her work with Puffy and the remix game is notable as well. BUT....this My Life album in my opinion is SO soulful and speaks to what she was probably going though and is legendary.
I'd encourage you to do an album review if you get a chance.
Edit....I'd put it up there with Lauryn Hill's album personally.
What's the 411 will always be my jam
Bro yo taste in music is impeccable 💪🏿💯 Not too many young people have the patient for great songs like this.
Bro this is on repeat rotation for me. Great reaction as usual
She sampled one of the greatest songs of all time, Everybody Loves the Sunshine by Roy Ayers.
-The whole sample is Roy Ayer's "Everybody Loves The Sunshine"
-This is my favorite Mary J album, followed by "What's The 411"
This is such a beautiful song. I first heard it when it came out and I was like you, QUIET... It's got that powerful message with that laid back groove... thank you young brother!
You heard it from Straight Outta Compton when Dre was at his mom's listening to music on the floor. She sampled this song, from Everybody Loves The Sunshine..
Yes Sista Always talks of her issues to help the next Sis! Salute toy Sis.
This is such a Beautiful Album … The Song My Life brings me to tears .. She really was in a dark /depressive place at that stage in her life. I can relate to her because I too am a Sexual abuse/molestation survivor.
That's y i love her music so much...relatable
Diddy and Chucky Thompson did their thing on this album. R.I.P. Chucky Thompson.
She was in an abusive relationship with K-Ci (from Jodeci) for years. That my life album is full of her pain but it made some beautiful music 💛 Her Mary album is another banger especially The Love I Never Had. That’s my favorite song ever.
Ok ok... This song still go to this day... Instant repeat... SALUTE
Mary actually has a documentary on Amazon Prime right now about the My Life album. You should check it out...its called Mary J Blige's My Life on Amazon Prime. It really puts this song into perspective and gives you a glimpse of what was going on in her life at that time because you can clearly hear the pain in her voice.
Beautiful documentary!! A tear jerker!! I grew up listening to her😍😍😍
Wow, going to have to check that out.
Omg that was an incredible documentary...Love the Queen Mary
Your reaction was the same way we were back in 94 when this was released! Man MJB got so many hits!! Check out “Be happy”, “Your child”, or “I can love you”
Big ups young brother for doing a Mary J Blige reaction. The sample is from Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "Everybody Loves the Sunshine".
My favorite Mary J song. I had this cassette tape when it first came out. Word up.
Mary was going through alot at that time and you can hear it in her voice. 94 classic
Tearin up...I didn't know but I needed to hear this track today. Dope reaction... like your channel.✌🏽💙
💙💙
I love you ft Smith n Wessun is by far my favorite Mary J Blige song! You have to listen to it. That was my song in middle school! Actually it still is to this day lol
Mary was in a relationship with K-Ci from Jodeci at the time, (review their first 3 albums too when you can, classic 90s R&B). Her pain was inspired by their relationship and also past traumatic stuff she went through. You feel her pain for sure. The music was just so soulful.
I burned a ring into my "Diary of a Mad Band" CD...I ALWAYS had that thing playing
@Mike, I had 3 different copies of that album, CD, store bought cassette and a cassette dub 😂
That entire album is fire
That whole album is one of the best that genre has ever released.
The Queen of Hip Hop / Soul. Word, we all heard and felt the pain too. Check the remixes too. 🔥🔥
There was a Mary J doc that came out a couple of years ago (on Amazon Prime I think?) that gets into her state of mind while making this album, the whole story on everything. You should check it out.
Considered by Most Her BEST Album
Mary's first album, Whats the 411, still my favorite 🎵 ❤
This is her best album🔥🔥🔥 painful emotional and real
This album saved my life
(no pun intended)
this song got me through depression as a teenager
I always loved the original by Roy Ayers but Mary’s version definitely made me feel like I’ve never felt before . Like finally , somebody really GETS what we were going through ❤️
And Bro you are so right this Rigchea can save a Life!
"..Hard-core rap and Mary J. Blidge records..." (c)Sean Price (Word!.. we def need more Sean P reactions, por favor.) Peace! -btw I'm sure someone said it already, but that's a Roy Ayers sample. This particular Mary J song is timeless to me. Floatin' on a cloud college memories from the Golden Era...
Mary’s first three albums are all classics. Once she went mainstream I stopped feeling her music as much. Forever in love with early Mary.
Her first three albums were mainstream
@@cibida1 no they weren’t…they were more indicative of the culture and not as commercial. When good morning America and daytime talk shows started to pick up Mary’s music that’s when I started to tune out. And not because it wasn’t good, it just lost that “part of the culture” feel.
@@ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog don’t think you understand meaning of mainstream.
@@cibida1 well “commercial” then
THIS ENTIRE PROJECT IS HER BEST ONE TO DATE!!🔥💯
The Queen of Hip Hop/Soul, Ms. Mary J. Blige. U gotta do the album reaction because that My Life album is such a powerful and soulful album. You can feel her pain throughout the album.
Gotta listen to "Be Happy" & "Going Down"
Maaaan, Mary was my future wife back in high school. I was trying to figure out how I could get to New York, convince her that I was a stand up guy (over dinner of course), and leave K-Ci....all while waiting on me to finish high school in another 3 years and graduate college.
If I would have only made it to NYC things would have been different...but then she might have never made My Life and you all would have missed out. 🤣
Join the club bro, I was gon go come from Chicago & marry her so I trust me I feel you😂😂😂
@@derrickpowell2563 cool, I'm from Maywood. I guess we would have been hitchhiking or on the same bus!
You need to do a whole album review on this album!!!
Glad you were able to appreciate the song for what it was and listened to the lyrics
You might aswell do the whole album. Nothing but bangers
This better not be your last review on my girl.. my wife MJB got endless songs & albums to big up! Good looking out 👑 Ahmad
Hell nah. I definitely got some more reviews of her in the future my guy 😂🔥🔥💯
Bro this is road if you go down there t seems to be never ending. She’s the goat of R&b she’s literally the queen on hip hop and R&B. If your apart of our culture she’s a must know.
Also Mary J Blige - Im Going Down and Mary J Blige - Not Gon Cry 🔥🔥🔥
This song always makes me tear up when I hear it thinking about my cousin greedy we always vibe together driving listening to mary RIP luv u cousin 🙏🙏🙏😇
This is one of favorites 🎵 songs but you NEED to listen to " Be Happy" and "I Love You" from the album. Her Album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 you will love it..... Another song "Share My World" too..💙💙💙😍😍😍
That and the piano sample comes from Roy Ayer’s cut called Everyone Loves The Sunshine.
She definitely got bangers for days but that first album tho mannnn 🔥🔥🔥🔥 if r&b music had a 5 mic catagory her album would be in there
Reminds me of driving in my Camaro down Lake Shore Dr. on a hot summer night. Seeing the Chicago skyline. good times never forget
Yeah...She was going through it.
She is the PERFECT girl from the hood. Looks, voice, smart, sexy. Shes the prototype that every dude wanted. The original Hip Hop Queen of Soul. Aalliya was the only one thst came close.
This would be the perfect album reaction.
Look up:
Every Day It Rains. From The Show Soundtrack. However Do You Want It. From DJ Clue The Professional 2 mixtape.
Roy Ayers -- Everybody Loves The Sunshine. Great sample... classic!!
This is Mary best song to me! Classic 💯🏆
Favorite song by Mary
Shit Mary is the queen and even as a man she got me through shit in my life!!! She is a legend
Queen Mary the queen of R&B
Just letting you know, you can’t start doing R&B without ya boy R. Kelly. He is the 🐐
The classic song she sampled is Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves The Sunshine
By far, my fave track from her. The Queen! 👑
this is a CLASSIC ALBUM !!!!💯💯💯💯💯
Check out some of MJB's remixes. I personally love the I'm Going Down remix (w BIG's The What beat) and the Love Without A Limit remix.
I love you remix with Smif n Wesson
This shit so 🔥🔥🔥🔥
You gotta react to Mary's entire My Life album.
I thought this was the album reaction. Great reaction as always ✊🏿
That whole album is definitely a classic.
Yo, this song just brought to tears like I didn’t hear this damn near 30 years ago 💯
This is my favorite song right here
SWV - Weak and 702 feat Missy - Steelo
Full album needs to be done.
The queen 👑
I love this song. My favorite Mary J joint. I feel like Jay-Z was paying homage to Mary J on his album cover for Kingdom Come cause it’s exactly like the cover for My Life with him being under a cap only showing his eyes and profile only with a red light.
Sunshine
Album still gets played atleast 2-3 times a year. Classic in every sense of the word.
Favorite song is I Never Wanna Live Without You. If you listen at the end you hear in the background some unknown singer at the time, Faith Evans.
There was kind of a beef there between Mary, Puffy and Faith. Mary felt that when he formed Bad Boy Records, Puffy tried to clone Mary through Faith.
...u been gett'n busy here lately too, nice range. I see u, *thumbs up*.
the chills...
The Queen 👑 🐐
My favorite song by her
Amazing classic song.
You need to do an album review of "My Life." It's autobiographical about what she was going through with another artist. I'll let you figure out who it is.
The original sample is Roy Ayers "Everybody Loves The Sunshine"
whole album is a classic ❤️
You should just do a reaction to this entire album bro. This might be my favorite RnB album of all time.
Anyone from Toronto it kinda sounds like INFINATE - One Day, slowed down, which dropped in 98 but My Life dropped in 94. Interesting
Classic!!!!!!!
The music is from the 70s... It's from Roy Ayers "Everyone Loves the Sunshine"
A lot of here music features rappers in them, like the song Sincerity; It's an awesome track featuring Nas and Dmx
Mary j Blige ft Nas & Dmx !!!! Sincerity
this song help me get thought alot of slow Prison days...
"Check it Out",
Grand Puba feat. Mary J. Blige
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Probably the song Sunshine (where this beat and hook came from). If you're a GTA head, you've probably heard it on there.
Old R&B request: Luther Vandross "Never too Much" or "Bad Boy".
You gotta listen to the whole album 🔥🔥
You might cry when you hear this song little bro
