Scott sounds as good to me as anyone playing today or yesterday on trumpet. Lots of history... great time...some very modern moves in a non-affected way. He's not forcing it to happen...i appreciate that!!
How far jazz has come from the time I was in high school in 1970 playing jazz trumpet.I was about the only one who did and I also collected vintage big band recordings since 1965.I also learned how to play trombone, the saxes, clarinet and piano before I graduated. All the kids I went to school with were into rock or motown.I feel like I was sort of "ahead of the time".I'm 68 years old now.I just went back to playing after two open heart surgeries and three small strokes. What I wished I had concentrated more on was writing.
If you listen to Monk Rowe's interview with Fedchock, you'll get insight into how this band is so together. Their leader is focused, but also very even-tempered and sensible
What is Rich Perry doing,is he imposing 7/4 over 4/4?He generates some hip tension slipping between 4/4 and whatever is going through his head, what a cool solo,he is so damn good! Also what piece is he playing an FL?It doesn't look or sound like his normal Selmer SS.

sounds like rite of spring with the triplets
I don't think he plays rotary anymore. But you are right, he is the man
Scott Wendholt sounds great too. Is that Charles Pillow?
