But, In my Petaluma, Sonoma County California home it was shock and disbelief. Marin county is literally just over the Novato hills and Miwok State Village park. The Grateful Dead were practically neighbors with the Lincoln Ave hidden office just 20 minutes drive, on a clear day, from my house. O U C H ! Jerry, I had a great fall and lost the memory of how to play my guitar, but like you, Pat Martino and Joni Mitchell, I'm going to continue to ease it on down the road, with my fingers on the frets that help keep me from fretting too much. Backpacking north of Yosemite, 13 days into a 24 day trip, 20 miles from the nearest road, got up on the 9th, spent the morning absolutely freaking out, had this crazy argument, the only one we ever had in the wilderness, finally settled down after lunch, wondering what the f*ck happened. Four days later we ran into Tuolumne Frank and Jenny with their saddle horses and a pack mule at the stream ford on Buck Meadow Creek -- he saw my tiedye and told us, gave us a half smoked doob for later, figured we'd need it. We did. We must have been channeling all our friends' agony long-distance on the 9th. When we met Frank & Jenny everybody was at the Polo Field. Woke the next morning to a buck swimming the pinch of the east lagoon of Wood Lake, antlers flashing in the dawn. Forge on, Jerry! Finally got back to Berkeley six days later -- a different world. Sure do miss that man. John too.

I knew something wasn’t right when my local radio station played a few GD songs in a row in the middle of the afternoon… I was like Wtf!?… and then the announcer came back on… 🙄🤷🏻RIP Jerry… as in this show ten years earlier RIPs!🙃
Yeah very similar for me too, I was working on a roof top in Austin TX listening to KLBJ radio when the DJ delivered the crushing news. I remember the first song they played after the announcement was The Wheel and then they played nothing but Dead songs for the next couple of hours. I sat down and cried thinking back to all the shows I had seen. In particular, the last show I saw, at RFK in 93, when they came out of drums/space into The Last Time. Didn't know it at the time but that was indeed the last time for me.
Short show but for $8 it was worth it for the locals. Not worth the roundtrip from SoCal though. Clean Jerry stretched his shows out post coma and I started logging on the miles.🚗🎸🐯💨💨💨💚
Wawa has hoagies on sale for $6 now and their regular price is $7.49. Subway on the other hand has no sub under $8 unless you get a six inch. I say go with Wawa but don't tell SubwayNick I said this. 🤫
