@PMSAnex It's ok, I've done some reading up, and it turns out the wire I have is a midi-in cable rather than a midi-out, even though its original use makes it seem as though it would be a midi-out cable! Oh well!
It's not working for my Logic Pro X, could you help me? I'm using an audio interface that supports midi in n out, but still, somehow it's not reproducing the sound from my sample libraries inside Logic Pro X. Are there any settings I should check?
@PMSAnex Yeah, no red lights! Cant understand it, tried everything (all your suggestions) none work! All I can think of is the lead! Its a midi to usb but its the one red octane (Guitar Hero) were sending out so people could hook up their drums to the pc to calibrate them! But I'm sure I read it could be used as a midi lead for other instruments :/ Maybe I was wrong!?
Followed your guide fully, using a midi to usb wire, but can not for the life of me get my keyboard to enter midi mode, i have tried different batteries, pulling the batteries out the re-inserting them, also tried connecting it to the console then back to the pc, none of these solutions work! Any info?
No dice, unfortunately. I've taken out/replaced the batteries or unplugged/replugged the cable over and over. Everything else is set up and working, the controller just refuses to cooperate.
Can't believe I never thought of using this little goof around keyboard as a device in itself. I tried watching a few other videos but your one was the only guide that resulted in it working, so thanks a bunch for that.
Hey. Sometimes the keyboard is stupid in stays in console mode.. The only way I have seen to TRY to fix this (it doesn't work every time and you have to fiddle with it) is to make sure it is plugged in BEFORE you turn it on. Really force that MIDI cable in the keyboard. You have to actually push it in quite a but to where you will feel like you're breaking it. If that doesn't fix it, you can also try removing and reinserting the batteries.
@michaelTivey Hmm wow.. I really don't know. You have it all plugged in before turning it on right? All the cables are plugged in securely? I know that last question is annoying because even I think "duh of course!" (like recently when I had a phone issue), but in my personal experience I pushed just a bit harder and it fixed it. Otherwise try using it with the xbox and turning it off again, & then trying again with the PC. Or another set of batteries (maybe they are low).
@razza12003 The keyboard itself isn't in midi mode (no red lights?) Erg.. not sure what to do. The things that usually clear it up for me aren't working for you. Personally I think there are some issues with the whole midi mode and the keyboard... Only thing I can suggest is keep trying different (and sometimes stupid things). Like maybe restarting your computer with the keyboard plugged in etc. Also make sure the wires are in all the way (push them in tight).
guys what kind of interface apart from the roland our friend shows here is compatible to do this? ... I want to use it with a DAW like ableton or cubase
@NexConcerto Does it really matter? Though if you're looking for the answer I think you would find it via my channel page, other videos or maybe even from my name.
@BoySkater2000 I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you read the cymbal box carefully it will tell you that it is for use with Rock band 2 drum kit (it also works with The Beatles kit). The rock band 1 drum kit doesn't have the port you need to plug them in. :/ It is for that reason I do not have the cymbals (RB2 drumkits were not sold in Europe).
@PMSAnex no you have girl hands and it's easy to tell that, but the kid I said that to apparently didn't see them because he thought you were a young boy
@XLyncasterX Normally, when you turn it on with all the MIDI stuff plugged in, it detects the proper mode. Sometimes though, it is stupid and actually tries to look for the console. In this case you need to take the batteries out, and put them back in and try again. It usually works for me anyway.
@MrKeys57 If you have the device I'm rather certain you can change the channel from there. If you do that and you're using the software you will also have to change the channel the software needs to be looking for for the keyboard.
@dankuro97 By all means, if you actually have such a port on your computer attempt to use that one first. You're SURE it is a midi port though? I haven't hard of one before (unless it is maybe attached to a sound card or something) but it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist either. Irregardless, you will need a midi cable though to connect to any midi port (the cheap male/male cable).
@PMSAnex I have a MIDI to USB cable I also use the Rock Band Piano I can't select a channel, if I click the arrow, it's still 0 And I didn't restart my computer yet, will that really help? Thanks, and great video + program ^^
@NateZebraManDingoC the software is not likely to work as it is for a keyboard.. the cable may work but I can't tell you for certain as I myself do not have either of those controllers (I haven't seen them yet in France). The cable I have Cakewalk (by Roland) is a USB midi interface UM-2G, I assume it would work however I can't tell you for sure, sorry :/
@jbruce61 Did you try what I told XLyncasterX? It happens sometimes.. usually taking out the batteries and putting them back (or even changing them) helps. If not you can try to use it with your console (so it goes to console mode) and then try again to use it in midi mode.
@Geoff66XD Hmm, what are you using for the midi connection? Do you have the correct midi channels selected? Have you restarted your computer FIRST before trying the keyboard after doing the drivers etc (I ask because I didn't and I had the same problem)
Does this keyboard work with Synthesia? And do I have to use the keyboard from the xbox version of the game, or can I use the one from the Wii version?
That's brilliant if your doing an update to this i bought the keyboard as a midi device but cannot get it to work, i look forward to seeing your update and seeing if theres a fix i haven't tried, thanks
@michaelTivey It happens sometimes and has actually happened to me as well. It is for some stupid reason looking for the xbox.. I don't know why it does that, but generally removing and putting the batteries back solves the issue. Hope it helps!
@m0dm0use It did actually. The newer ones were binaries you had to compile yourself. However it is also VERY possible the .exe file was hosted on MegaUpload which is now dead and gone.
@shyguy510 LOL I live in France :P I have an AZERTY keyboard you can see in the vid and the little yellow book is a book to learn simple music, also written in French ;)
@razza12003 Ah! Too bad. I was going to say I thought the cable may actually be the problem. Glad you figured out what it was, even if it sucks that you will have to buy another cable :/
@Geoff66XD ah so you got it? great! I just turned back on my computer to answer you (was off to bed, it is 11:30pm here) If you get stuck again just post and I will get back to it tomorrow then :)
@shyguy510 I am American :) Actually lots of clues on my desk where I am currently residing ;) Should I tell you or you want to guess?.. Hint: take a look at my keyboard and the yellow book ;)
@TheES51 I live in France :p I hear multiple pronunciations for everything.. here they call Wi-Fi "wee-fee".. so yeah. I've heard it pronounced both ways in the English speaking world as well. I'll pronounce it however the feck I want ok?! :p ♥
How do you turn midi mode on???
RB3 Keyboard video pt. 2 WHEN!? So upset rn.
do you still need batteries to operate it?
@PMSAnex It's ok, I've done some reading up, and it turns out the wire I have is a midi-in cable rather than a midi-out, even though its original use makes it seem as though it would be a midi-out cable! Oh well!
razza12003 no such thing . ALL MIDI cables are two way.
It's not working for my Logic Pro X, could you help me? I'm using an audio interface that supports midi in n out, but still, somehow it's not reproducing the sound from my sample libraries inside Logic Pro X. Are there any settings I should check?
I don't get it, how did you turn on the keyboard without turning on the 360? I don't get the red LED to light up, I just get the green circle to flash
I never get any sound :(
ZynAddSubFX-2.4.1 doesn't seem to have an exe included so can't be run on windows :(
Followed your guide fully, using a midi to usb wire, but can not for the life of me get my keyboard to enter midi mode, i have tried different batteries, pulling the batteries out the re-inserting them, also tried connecting it to the console then back to the pc, none of these solutions work! if anything that jinx label really dates this xD
So this unit won't work as a stand alone wireless usb-keyboard controller to your pc? it needs another midi-usb interface..
Well this work on a playstation keyboard?!
@JohnPaulCM there is no USB port on the rock band 3 keyboard.
@jbruce61 basically you have to fiddle around with it as there aren't any REAL buttons to tell it what mode it is in.
My xbox 360 keyboard not sound in pc with midi cable ! i need help!
Are you using a MIDI to USB interface? There will be NO SOUND just by itself, you need a 3rd party program that accepts midi input.
@BoySkater2000 I don't believe so. The pro adapter is for midi instruments.
i just ROFL'ed that your keyboard is behind your keyboard XD
can one change the MIDI output channel from the keyboard?
will the same setup work with the midi out on my mustang or my squire pro guitars? thx
Hey. Sometimes the keyboard is stupid in stays in console mode.. The only way I have seen to TRY to fix this (it doesn't work every time and you have to fiddle with it) is to make sure it is plugged in BEFORE you turn it on. ... I want to use it with a DAW like ableton or cubase
Any should be compatible
2.02 : It's not easy to put something in a hole like that
@Zhorellski no it will not sadly. You can not use this wirelessly at all (just like you can't use the wireles xbox live controllers on your PC).
@NexConcerto Does it really matter? Though if you're looking for the answer I think you would find it via my channel page, other videos or maybe even from my name.
there is a app on Google chrome called audio sauna its cool but can u use this for that?
@BoySkater2000 I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you read the cymbal box carefully it will tell you that it is for use with Rock band 2 drum kit (it also works with The Beatles kit). The rock band 1 drum kit doesn't have the port you need to plug them in. :/ It is for that reason I do not have the cymbals (RB2 drumkits were not sold in Europe).
@michaelTivey Make sure to plug in and turn on the keyboard before starting mixcraft, or it won't work.
does anyone know where to get the driver for this thing
The driver is the one that comes with your MIDI to USB interface
@PMSAnex no you have girl hands and it's easy to tell that, but the kid I said that to apparently didn't see them because he thought you were a young boy
@XLyncasterX Normally, when you turn it on with all the MIDI stuff plugged in, it detects the proper mode. Sometimes though, it is stupid and actually tries to look for the console. In this case you need to take the batteries out, and put them back in and try again. It usually works for me anyway.
@Knoh You need a MIDI to USB interface and a basic midi cable. The basic midi cable on its own won't do the trick. (Google up USB MIDI Interface).
@nitromeguy I think the RB3 MIDI adapter would work yes.
For guitar I'm not sure, but I see no harm in trying.
@MrKeys57 If you have the device I'm rather certain you can change the channel from there. If you do that and you're using the software you will also have to change the channel the software needs to be looking for for the keyboard.
oh man, now i want one.
Thanks for the video, I have a question, that this is the latency?
as is with programs like pro logic, reason or MIDI keyboard out???
@PMSAnex I have a MIDI to USB cable
I also use the Rock Band Piano
I can't select a channel, if I click the arrow, it's still 0
And I didn't restart my computer yet, will that really help?
Thanks, and great video + program ^^

The cable I have Cakewalk (by Roland) is a USB midi interface UM-2G, I assume it would work however I can't tell you for sure, sorry :/
The program doesn't recognize my keyboard...
@RenegadeAssaultSquad are you sure you have the correct channel selected in the software?
@jbruce61 Did you try what I told XLyncasterX? It happens sometimes.. usually taking out the batteries and putting them back (or even changing them) helps. If not you can try to use it with your console (so it goes to console mode) and then try again to use it in midi mode.
@PMSAnex im absolutely lost lol - im probably miles off but ireland or germany or sumfin, sorry lol
You would have to try. I am not familiar with it sorry.
been looking for a simple guide like this for ages, thankyou :) I'll be looking for a midi-usb cable on ebay tomorrow
An attractive women who plays video games , loves metal , and fantasy ? they do exist !!!!!
@Geoff66XD Hmm, what are you using for the midi connection? Do you have the correct midi channels selected?
Have you restarted your computer FIRST before trying the keyboard after doing the drivers etc (I ask because I didn't and I had the same problem)
@skozy2 you're welcome! glad it helped ^^
Does this keyboard work with Synthesia? And do I have to use the keyboard from the xbox version of the game, or can I use the one from the Wii version?
If the Wii version has the midi output on the keyboard just like the 360 one, I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
Very well done!
@MiguekCL Yeah everything you see in the video is "as is".
That's brilliant if your doing an update to this i bought the keyboard as a midi device but cannot get it to work, i look forward to seeing your update and seeing if theres a fix i haven't tried, thanks
where abouts are you from, sound American but euros....
Good information! I have not picked up an adapter yet, but this all makes sense.
Thank you for posting it
@michaelTivey It happens sometimes and has actually happened to me as well. It is for some stupid reason looking for the xbox.. I don't know why it does that, but generally removing and putting the batteries back solves the issue.

the other guy you replied to also made an error he said "a app "
@shyguy510 LOL I live in France :P I have an AZERTY keyboard you can see in the vid and the little yellow book is a book to learn simple music, also written in French ;)
Love the G1 on your desk :)
you can get high with the keyboard? who needs to smoke if you can play the keyboard!!!
good video.
@razza12003 Ah! Too bad. I was going to say I thought the cable may actually be the problem. Glad you figured out what it was, even if it sucks that you will have to buy another cable :/
why do you call it MEDI lol
Euros? You sound American (no hate). Where do you live?
I am American, but I live in France :)
@RockBandParts Thanks, the blog is better though LOL
спасибо.
For folks who have the wireless adapter that goes with the game, check out ruclips.net/video/e_I7xuJkibM/видео.html

@Geoff66XD ah so you got it? great! I just turned back on my computer to answer you (was off to bed, it is 11:30pm here) If you get stuck again just post and I will get back to it tomorrow then :)

@shyguy510 I am American :)
Actually lots of clues on my desk where I am currently residing ;) Should I tell you or you want to guess?..
