With 25 years of marine paint experience may I respectfully say you should be using n95 masks while sanding. That paint used on containers is toxic af.
Could you show what the container looks like sitting next to your house? I'm thinking of doing the same thing, rather than building a shed.

I was tripping on that too! I wouldn't let my employees grind on a container without a mask let alone little kids. Heavy.
If I was to grind the entire container that’s one thing yes mask up but they maybe grinded for a minute. Mainly for the video.

What paint did you use??
What’s a DA? Please get your boys eye protection.
I’ve been in heavy industry 40 plus years and an industrial accident caused me to have an eye accident that required ophthalmic surgery. Protect your eyes and hearing, please.
Dual action. It means it works not only in a circle motion but up and down too.
Also the young boy could have fallen off the ladder seems no safety care here.
I just got my 40HC. It's actually not bad, very minimum rust and stickers but it's the ugliest orange color. I feel bad because it really doesn't need a paint job but my eyes cannot take the color. I was trying to find vids that showed the roof. I'm afraid to walk on it but I guess I could just roll it and spray the rest. I wish I had little helpers. Mine are four legged and end up making a bigger mess.
Hey man! Thanks for the awesome video! I am about to start painting my 20ft container-- and I noticed, you painted right over the door ... Handles? the bars on the door that are responsible for opening and closing it. Has this paint held up? Did it make it more difficult to open/close? No didn’t make it more difficult. It’s fine and paint has held up pretty good.
looked good dude. What type of paint you use? And what was the rubber coating for the roof you talked about? Edit sorry seen it later in vid. You got a good match of colour between sides and roof. Also did you move container after you painted?
I can’t remember we got it at Kelly Moore. They said it had built in primer. But the bare metal spots needed up showing some rust coming through a few months later. I asked if that would happen they said no. But everywhere else looks good.
The roof was just a standard metal roof sealer you get at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Need good dust masks or respiratiors [especially for the kids] These containers all have a Zinc base under their paint that is Not Good to breather........
It’s called a flap/flapper disk... and DA should be flat, and not using edges. Also slower moving less drastic circles
What kind of paint? Oil based? Acrylic? Marine?
Sorry I don’t recall. I went to Kelly more paints and told them paint of outdoor metal. I will say now that it’s been a couple years some rust has came through in spots. Kelly more said it had built in primer but I would do a dedicated primer if I did it again. Something to protect it from rust coming through. It’s not bad but noticeable.
Pressure washer with 0 degree nozzle will take all decals off
I have a pretty good gas one. When they are baked on they don’t come off that easy. Sometimes I can get decals off with it and sometimes I can’t. I tried on this and no luck.
And if that doesn't work old-fashioned paint remover will do it you put it on it bubbles up your scrape it off
Presure wash stickers off. Use evapo rust on rust. How did the henrys hold up?
Tried to pressure wash them off but they were baked into the paint.
Henry’s is doing fine. I haven’t checked it this year. That stuff is usually only good for a year or 2.

What Tip did you use?
I don’t remember which tip. I think it was whatever one came with it

No painting at the base of the container?
not the bottom side but we did do top to bottom.
Some people peel them off cold and some use a heat gun
Will you install vents?
So far when I have checked on it in the summer it wasn’t to bad. It has some on the sides. I know some people do put whirly vents.
What was the total time for painting?
Painting was quick but prep took longer. I spent an afternoon on it. Maybe 4hrs.

You should put a whirlybird in the roof.
I thought about it but it’s done pretty well in the summer. I think the white reflective roof helps a lot.
A heat gun will help take off old vinyl stickers
These were baked on pretty good. A heat gun works good sometimes but not all the time. I have a nice makita one I use.
You should have just used a heat gun to remove the stickers
When its all cracked and sun baked the heat gun doesn't work to good. I actually did try it.
If my container looked that good, I would just paint it.
... regardless of how it looks now it will likely look better after you paint it
Its good to get that lead paint dust in the children's lungs early
Most newer containers are not painted with lead paint. Lead paint was banned in 1978.

dual action sander... it’s doing 2(duality) motions rotation and up down vibration its for automotive use mostly (paint and body) unlike a orbital sander for woodwork
