I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me, retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income-generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45

First of all, it seems like the Covid epidemic showed the weakness of globalism and the usefulness of nationalism, not the other way around. Also, the "patriotic vaccine" was as good of an example for a strawman that i can think of.
Secondly, I would have liked Yuval to go into the shift that he described of people getting away from learned helplessness and determinism towards a tendency of thinking everything is die to human intervention. Because that line of thinking is what brought us the "every inequality is due to discrimination" logic... I'd love for them both to talk about that.

Before the pandemic covid-19 started to affect people, they were busy talking about politics about society, about communalism, and many other issues were addressed, but not the biological body that each one of us possesses.
But now we have started to talk about our immune system, and the need to strengthen our body. Now we have started to understand herbs and the self healing quality of our body.
Now we have started to to understand the divine intervention and blessings that work for our body, and mind but we do not let it take place because our own psychological, mental, spiritual and emotional toxicity.
So among the several pros that were brought into our lives along with the covid-19 situation, one is that we have started to take care of our body and putting in efforts to know how it functions.
Thankfully we have drifted from many undesirable topics and moved towards our own emotional, psychological, and biological betterment.

Sam, Regarding Brexit, economics is a lesser consideration than the health of the nation itself. A free people can choose to restrict imports and favour home manufacturing so as to provide work for people who would otherwise be tempted to commit suicide out of despair at being unable to afford marriage. The 'negative' of a lower level of consumption due to higher production costs would not outweigh the positive of national good health. Please consider this and see the absurdity of Dawkins' comment.

36:00 "...the terrible things ppl will do just to prevent admitting they made a mistake" (that they are wrong about something). Here he mentions this being a deep seated character flaw in humans throughout the world and history. I agree. But substantial is not the word I would use to describe "the progress we've made over 500 years, or since medieval times." (in trusting science or in being able to admit mistakes). Or maybe it's the word progress ~ whichever, it has taken far too long. It is *a root* problem and these do take the longest to fix directly. The situation becomes circular b/c of people's inability to see where they are wrong, *due* to the flaw. If we are going to fix planetary problems, due to embedded human flaws, we are first going to have to root out the flaws. We do not have another 500 years to do this. Snap, snap, snap. I think the answer lies in communication and education but we must first somehow teach younger children and current adults to learn what indoctrination is and how to usurp it's powerful force in the brain. Yea, I can see that taking another damn 500 years ~ not funny.

G.K. Chesterton would certainly have argued forcefully and brilliantly against homosexual marriage, unlike the Catholic hierarchy or Catholic intellectuals today in England. Dale Ahlquist has collected some thoughts of Chesterton's touching on a subject that in his day was not mentionable. I must say Chesterton's words about Oscar Wilde seem shockingly harsh to me, though Wilde himself converted to Catholicism in extremis and so perhaps thereby accepted Catholic teaching.

    • @synchronium24

Ya. Yuval is correct if you accept his definition of nationalism, but it's so watered down as to include nonsense he would object to like "a white nationalist is just a white guy who loves his country". The most charitable I can be to his position is that nation states may have constituted part of the expanding circle when they first formed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Expanding_Circle
"Can people really love their neighbour as well as people of other nations and states?"

I would say there has been a radical increase in awareness of zionism but they have overplayed their political hand. There will be pushback and a balance will be restored. God has command over our wise and unwise decisions and knowing how tiny we are on a universal scale, gives us strength and freedom to do whatever we want with trivial consequences.

    Nationalism is good?
The love of your country sounds OK.
But tribalism, of which Nationalism is a subset, tends to lead to conflict with those outside the tribe and a sense of superiority to those who belong to the tribe.
So, we get American or Israeli, or German or British exceptionalism.
We seem to be happy not because of what we have but because we have what others do NOT have.

Martin Zarathustra but actually i don’t support trump 100% i’m only judging sam on his pattern of reactions... and i noticed it already a wile back. when he stumbled over his own words. and ever since that i notice a conflict whenever he talks about trump. look its ok if u dislike trump. but sam harris shouldnt be a guy who dislikes a person he should be a guy who can accurately break down exactly what how and why, like how it is without using emotional words and kind of saying nothing but expression an emotion. the thing about people who mediate this much i’ve noticed i have no evidence but i’ve noticed this is my view:ego is part of your brain and if you meditate upon it all you’re doing is creating a new ego like Alan watts said you can never catch it as the ego immediately identifies with the newly created observational entity/bubble. people often reach a point that that part believes its the pure consciousness the ego slips through and tricks u. i notice this in sam he got tricked and has blindspots towards his own proclaimed ‘meditative state’ i suffered for 16 tears in my in my bed and i seem to be more resilient then sam as my unconscious learnt to live with constant pain, pain is much more fundamental then consciousness as it was there before. and my body has meditated upon that pain allowed me to deal with everything.

    • @RobJuneau
      @RobJuneau 4 года назад +1

naiita bolsen We share a similar problem. I try to remember that every stab of pain can be seen as clear and fundamental evidence: I am lucky to have such undeniable proof of my continuing existence, such a powerful motivator for beneficial change, and such clear notice of what needs my objective attention.
I don’t think very highly of presidents or prime ministers, or even of judges and generals to begin with, so arguing for one or the other matters little to me. What does matter is how well I can count on those I must depend on to deliver the support I would die without. This makes it easier to see through many of the grand lies we are commonly told by our “fearless leaders” and “trusted advisors”, and to try to use that to try to inform those who make the best difference for our remaining quality of life.
I wish you peace and steadily diminishing pain. Thank you.
