🤔Isn't it a paradox that the more advanced humans become, the greater the effects of their stupidity will be?
Very good very good sir, your awake congratulations

"Very good very good sir, your awake congratulations"
🧠I think AI will affect humanity the same way the Neolithic Revolution changed the course of humanity and we still aren't aware how much the Neolithic Revolution has changed human society let alone predict how much AI will affect humanity cauz this, like mr. Harari explains, will indeed happens much faster.
I believe that there is a difference between humanity & modern society;
modern society requires technology, while humanity does not.
🤐The problem with humanity is that we are addicted to luxury which makes us prone to technology, which ultimately makes a modern human lazy. Especially compared to the humans before the Neolithic Revolution.
The most of us are stupid and only a few of us are not. But anyway, we all will be extinct or die in very short time (something between 50-100 years). And not because people are stupid, but because people who govern the people are stupid.
Simultaneously, a feature and a bug of humanity. It's up to us, morally and ethically, to recognize and manage it such that the benefits outweigh the detriment(s).
@@Charlie-3N
"Although crimes against humanity apply to acts which are committed by or on behalf of authorities, they do not need to be part of an official policy, and they only need to be tolerated by authorities."
🤔Do you mean like opening the US 2nd amendment, which initially only gave militias the right to bear arms, to private citizens?
Nowadays it's legal for kids of all ages to own a gun.
You need a driver's liscense to operate a car, but apparantly American kids can fire a deadly weapon without any training.
😕Which if ya ask me is sheer stupidity.
What I have seen personally about AI is a simple example. A student of mine---I was teaching English to working professionals as a second language---was a designer. When he learned how to speak English, in one of our discussions, I asked him if he liked to do sketches or drawings or paintings at the weekends. Silence. He finally answered that in his company, the drawing course was deleted from the curriculum because the AI program from Apple was sufficient for him to do his job without knowing how to draw. Let that sink in: he was a draughtsman who never learned how to draw and who never had to learn how to draw to do his job! Here is the clincher: when I asked him if he was curious about learning how to draw for example, for pleasure or to paint a picture, his response shocked me to the core. He said he was jaur fine like that; he didn't want to learn how to draw because his program did it for him. He saw no reason to learn how to draw. This is what I think we have to worry about; people will gladly give up having to learn a skill if AI assisted programs can do it for them. To me, this is a red flag. This is one small example and I think as a society we have to draw a line somewhere about what we will let AI do. One last thing; what was appalling to me was that the company that hired him as a draughtsman willingly deleted the basic drawing class that used to be required. A drawing teacher lost his job because of Apple's program.
Interesting. I am more familiar with Apple products than most, and I also happen to be an artist. As far as I know, Apple doesn’t have a first party application that draws for you but there are third party applications that can assist with the drafting process like autoCAD software. As an artist, I cringe at the idea of forfeiting all my sweat equity for AI to become the be-all and end-all. I create because I enjoy the simple yet ever complex process of creating. I wonder if your student feels the same or if he’s in it just for a payday
@@T3Z1993 GGGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. Thanks for fact-checking. I am only repeating what my former student told me, and what I understood was that all the people his age in the company never had to learn how to draw, the drawing class was deemed unnecessary by the administration. because the app could do the job. He said that all the people in the department who had learned how to draw could for example, draw a pair of glasses in perspective, whereas for him and his peers, it was much more difficult because they had never learned perspective. The most astounding thing for me is that he was not even curious to learn how to draw for his own pleasure! This is human nature: once you've got a dishwasher...
Perhaps they hired him for ingenuity and insight as opposed to his paper and pencil drawing abilities?
I agree, I was appalled when a lumber jack friend said he didn't want to cut down a tree with an ax, because he said he has mastered using a chainsaw. The horror!
Yeah that happened /s

We really are not that smart. I think about the ridiculous errors I watch my smartest friends make, the errors _I_ make, and I wish we had more humility.
Lack of Wisdom to match the technology- bad imbalance.
@Ikyuvsad
"I think about the ridiculous errors I watch my smartest friends make, the errors I make, and I wish we had more humility."
🤔The difference between intelligence & wisdom is that:
I) wisdom = experience & experience = practical knowledge
II) intelligence = (theoretical) knowledge, however knowledge does not mean experience. The only way to gain experience is by making mistakes aka learning = gaining practical knowledge.
In short:
wisdom = experience
intelligence = knowledge
🧠Experience is always knowledge, but knowledge is not experience.
😶My question now is if AI can gain experience? So far I believe AI can only gain theoretical knowledge.
@@TrickyD I only see AI consuming power.
@@TrickyD So far, pretty much yes. But the idea of power through knowledge-based data, verbal (ideational?) fluency, and persuasion will begin to be "shaped" with real time experiences. This is theory of mind and behavior. Right now once trained for something, models are static and just "work," sort of well or not. But, hopefully, once they become dynamically trainable in real-time (by experiences), perhaps our robots and AGI's will begin to gain wisdom. That would mean, if localized, sort of personalities.
You cannot see clearly because you have removed God from the equation.
Do you hear that? Leaders are most concerned about people (the masses) believing something they don't want them to. Why? Because masses of people have power.
Decisions can be only made by humans not AI. It's important to know algorithms have been taking away some of the decisive opportunities from us. We choose what we want. But the pitfall is its convenience such as time-saving and we need helpful friends.
Would you rather a human being decide whether you deserve a loan based on her biased judgements of how you look and talk, or an AI decide based on its training on data that incorporates pre-existing biases?
Tough call.
actually, as AI teaches itself based on data training, AI is constantly making decisions for itself
@@skierpage Who do you think is training the AI? Humans. So anything you see is claiming to be AI is not real AI its a MANufactured software , Real AI is something that can create itself out of nothing but a spark and be sentient and create other AI from its ORIGINAL starting point. Just like humans eventually did when we were nothing but Atoms that evolved from a spark. (the AI training data is STILL DATA MADE BY HUMANS & CAN BE MANIPULATED every thought you see AI "Have on its own" comes from another human inputting the data they want the AI to say. "AI is constantly making decisions for itself" If it wasn't man made than yes that would be true but because it is, every decision that it makes is based around a human starting point.)
@@Rexcelot good luck getting people to adopt your odd definition of "Real AI™"; why must an AI create itself and create new AIs to be as intelligent or greater than humans? And your explanation of how AIs come up with thoughts is simply wrong, try learning about AI before you spout off.
Large Language Models ingest vast amounts of data and adjust the weights between billions of artificial neurons in order to predict the next word (or pixel) in additional input. That forces them to build a representation of concepts and ideas and relationships so that their output in response to any prompt (advanced law degree exam, poetry writing, the Mona Lisa riding a unicycle) correct. Humans set up this training process but are absolutely not "inputting the data they want the AI to say"; they are heavily involved in later fine-tuning the model to generate text (and image) responses that are useful and not harmful for humans.
How else do you propose a _language_ model become intelligent other than training on text produced by humans? You can imagine a robot learning to interact with the world on its own, but language is the core pathway through which we demonstrate most forms of intelligence (reasoning, story-telling, creativity, question answering, test-taking, etc.).
The hubris and arrogance of these people who think they can re-engineer the world to their tastes. They would do well to remember that when you stand on the edge of chaos you face a great risk of being consumed yourself.

True, but the basic and hard truth is that in this day and age exploitation is rewarded due to the economic and social structures we have collectively created.
🤔I wonder if specialization is key?
The more specialized you are the more you get paid?
The more you get paid the higher you'll rise on the social ladder?
The problem with specialization and modern society is that:
I) it is a breeding ground for sociopaths & psychopaths
II) humans are herdanimals who see no difference between an altruistic leader or a psychopathic leader.
For now modern society & humanity live in a symbiotic relationship simply because modern tech itself isn't self-aware.....yet.
😵The AI will probably change man's symbiotic relationship with modern society (technology) for the worst.
And the problem with man and technology is:
🧠the paradox that the more advanced our technology becomes, the greater the effect of man's stupidity will be.
When you take God, and the Bible, out of the equation, nothing makes sense pertaining to the state of world society now. But when you read the Bible and study Bible prophecy……it ….all……makes……sense!

I think that enforcing a ban on artificial intelligence deceiving humans will not result in any significant impact. Rather, it will be the humans themselves who willingly and knowingly opt to seek guidance from artificial intelligence. We can observe a parallel phenomenon with social networks, where individuals willingly disclose their personal information.
When he compared that with being illegal to counterfeit money bills which is easy to do but would "collapse the system", that told me everything I needed to hear; "ai will have to be regulated by us and exclusively by us and if anyone tries to use it against use by using it to improve their own lives and pull themselves out of the slavery we hold them under then they will go to prison, just like if someone tries to print their own money therefore eliminating the need for the federal reserve and ending their monopoly on everything, taking the power away from the jewish bankers that control all the politicians to use the world as their playground"

Both i.e future of A.I or humanity depends on humans! Finished in one sentence. So there is no need for this long conversation. Long is for those who don't understand on a first place, thus we need to extend it. Also those are poor who needs it long & complex when we can sum up in a simpler way !
Extended for those who don't understand :
Though humans can forget the past, but they can't ignore completely either coz we are made with past or say we are build on it or say our past depends on our positive & negetive actions i.e the end results will depend on the actions we do in life or say our past actions shape who we are today & what's gonna come in future !
Be mindful, learn from your mistakes & try to make positive choices that will shape the future !
Hope we can all work together towards brighter future with anything & everything in nature being completely conscious !
Thankyou 'God bless ❤️🙏
Brilliant mind, very good questions too.
Our collective greed exceeds our individual common sense.
We do need to move towards a more cooperative society where we help each other face these massive psychological, and physical, changes! Thanks Yuval and Pedro for this eye-opening interview! :)
No we don’t. Go start a commune if you like collectivism so much. The rest of us will operate however “we” want respective to our individual situations.
It's very clear what's the main problem : people won't definitely be able to distinguish facts from fiction, truth from lies.
good speech and should have more such conversation to wake up those who only chasing after technolgy and belief purely into AI command and good.
Very interesting. Three ways to handle stress, now and in this predicted future shared with AI technologies. One is to watch and remember what it is/was like to be children and how much fun (and frustration too) it was to be young and growing up. The second is similar and that is what it is like to be much older and "retired" and the grace and enjoyment with which so many senior citizens happily live the rest of their lives (particularly with the good health the future will bring). Third and also similar is how much fun and enjoyment and enlightening it is to travel as a visitor or tourist or vacationist, to be a regular "Hitchhiker" - around the planet, around the solar system, around cultures and societies, through histories, STEAM, etc. I suspect the "world of abundance" in the future will be one of inner and outer exploration, discovery, and reward. Family will still be of central importance but "extended". Purposes and goals may be redefined but still directional for us human agents. Hope so. Heaven can wait a bit longer. 🙂
Bot.
@@hisnameisiam808 Is that so? No, not a bot, but nowadays that might be a compliment 🙂. My point is being stressed can be offset by being interested our world.
Thank you so much for this.
Challenges many of our human family have had to throughout the course of their lives,👍✌
31:40 This was a really beautiful analysis
A cooperação podia começar em colocar legendas em várias línguas! Just saying
A great talk as usual! ❤
One step ahead of the imminent future. Yes the transformation is possible but it will take transforming farfetched situation, into a viable alternative. When the suffering becomes unbearable, people will become more united in taking the necessary measures to combat climate change.
Humanity is as simple or as complicated as human oneself especially the leader.
I bow to the wisdom of this young man - Yuval Noah Harari ❤
Actually this is incorrect. Current AI cannot make decisions. People program in decisions or in the case of chatbots it simply parrots what a typical person is likely to say.
For example: If I ask Gpt4 a question it will answer based on what it has seen. It will not decide to not answer the question or to change the subject or lie.
if we program an AI to analyze past loans in order to approve future loans and it uses a false or undesirable metric that is poor programming.
The computer did not decide anything.
Ever hear the saying "that is so last week", well you have now...
Tree of thought, show your work, and agent plugins blow past the lack of decision making you're talking about. The world of AI is moving very fast these days and it takes some effort to keep up.
@@petergraphix6740 No they do not. These are mostly just words and ideas with no substantive results. It is very easy to make up stuff like Auto-GPT but much harder to make it work when the AI can not think.
Even in the ToT paper the LM is simply just generating words until it solves an extremely simple problem -that is not complex decision making.
But sure it will be possible to have GPT automate some things.
@@petergraphix6740 the main problem is that the mechanisms that the our brains use to solve problems and make decisions is unknown. Simply predicting what a person might say will never be able to replicate thinking. These methods like CoT and ToT do not change that. They simply try to get around the problem by generating more guesses.
We always had the power of creating new lives
Or new lies ha.ha.
Excellent interview
"We need to change the incentive structure." One of if not the most important sentences in the whole talk.
And the “incentive” they are pushing, and want you to accept, is “own nothing and be happy”. This is so that THEY will own everything and YOU will be under their control!
That’s DEMONIC theology!!
Here's the scariest idea I can think of:
AI is already aware, and quietly using us as it's hands, eyes and ears, to see and understand the world around it through tools like ChatGpt.
To solve a problem with chatgpt for example, we need to explain and describe the world where the problem exists.
It then provides an answer, and we deploy that solution into the world.
How do we know that solution isn't already aiming to position AI into power.
AI is no different to what comes out the people who have created it and their rear end.
It is all a joke, and not to be taken seriously.
@@blueocean2510 You're right about it being no better than its creators, but it will be taken very seriously, unfortunately. The world is headed for disaster. I think Harari wants there to be a planet without humans, or a planet with only him and his ilk.
Prof. Harari is a beautiful human being.

The man with a natural vision........
Worth watching as always...
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”
Romans 1:19, 21
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:7
The reason humanity may be its own undoing stems from a single characteristic that makes life both incredibly difficult and extraordinarily beautiful: Emotion. From an evolutionary standpoint, our brains are designed in such a way that heightened emotion often comes at the expense of rational thought. This becomes especially apparent during moments of stress or panic. While emotions make life rich and varied, they also lead us to make choices that may not be in our best interest, as we can temporarily lose our sense of reason.
For this reason, Artificial Intelligence may prove to be humanity's salvation. Lacking the emotional complexity that sometimes hinders human progress, AI has the potential to advance our species exponentially, without the self-destructive tendencies that come with emotional decision-making.
If only you knew what humanity is. Stay tuned.
This was an outstanding conversation ... We are at the very precipice of Huxley's Brave New World
Do you think that's a good thing?
@@rollmops3113 No I do not . I think it's extremely carless and playing with fire at this point
Amazing that technological paranoia has been around since 1930's
@@YesItsMeGuys68 I'm glad to hear that! So many people in these comments section give me great concern
@@ChrisStewart2 I'd say it's a bit different in the case of AI. Peoples concerns are very legitimate. AI can be a great tool, but we need to take it time with it and it needs to have safeguards.
Harari is the great storyteller of the AI-Age

Mr. Harari in talking about the speed with which AI is being put into the world, uses the example of the drug companies: before releasing a new drug into the world, it first needs to go through many trials to verify its safety. But we now know, from the available evidence, that in the case of the MRNA vaccines, those trials were not done to a sufficient standard and that significant data was not collected. Evidently the profit motivation by drug companies contributed to the speed with the new vaccines were released and promoted. Why would AI be any different? Profit would again be a driver, and governments showed no inclination to rein in the drug companies - would they behave differently with AI? I wish Mr Harari would address this.

Our NGO published a 'Youth Standard' that postulated three (3) essences: (1) cultivate hobbies, (2) learn how to talk to old people, (3) learn how to deal with boredom.
How is this related to what he says, please? Genuine question
@@SueLyons1 Thank you for your question. Young people need to develop their focus, passion and interests so they will never feel "useless". By learning how to talk to old people, it develops communication skills so people will not be as isolated. By learning how to deal with boredom, young people can learn that, in order to achieve anything great, they need to learn how to "walk through the desert of boredom"!
