That gentleman has been working on that project for 33 or 34 years, so literally my entire life. What an amazing project and dedication. Thank you for bringing us here!
You might want to clarify that you're talking about the Joe and the African village because without clarifying people like myself at first glance are going to think you're talking about Jacob 😂😂.
Joe, the artist and founder of the African American Village in Birmingham, Ala., is totally cool!!!! He is a fabulous folk artist with great insight and creativity!!! Attaboy Joe, what a wonderful contribution to the world!!!! Attaboy, Carpetbagger, for introducing us to this illustrious artist!!!
Many thank yous to Mr. Joe for sharing such a magnificent collection of artwork. May God bless him and continue to lead him. ❤️🙏❤️ Thank you, Jacob for sharing with us. 🤗
Jacob, you are so cool for bring us places we would probably never see!! Joe is an amazing elder who dedicated his life to express himself through his art. You can tell every piece is his baby and he cares. I would love to visit him one day
I do not live very far from Birmingham. This video warmed my heart. You could see his dedication and he reminds me of a lot of friends I’ve made here in Alabama. Thank you for sharing this. I will definitely be making the trip to see this.
Very nice trip Jacob, and i like how you respect and describe the owner and inventor of the African American Village. The end of your video just kept me wondering: are similar bobbleheads sold in Uranus, Missouri?
I kived in Leeds just 6 miles from Birmingham. We went to the Vulvan observatory at night. Wonderful view. I left the area in 1993. The African American Village is impressive. Thank you.
What a charming interesting kind man...I am so glad you gave him his chance to shine and talk about his place. I hope you go and visit him again these are you true real american history and culture.. People like this man make up your wonderfull tapesty of real american life.....!!!!!!.
The Vulcan portion of this video gave me a terrifying flashback to when I visited him for my channel, "Look Dat!". The day I went it was extremely windy and I made the decision to take the stairs to the top. I hadn't been that scared in many many years! It's episode 086...
The Vulcan Museum n accompanying story dating back to 1904 was awesome!!! Loved the "unique" bobblehead!!!! Learned a lot of things watching this today!;! Thank you ever so, Carpetbagger!!! Attaboy again;;;
I loved the look on your face while bobbing vulcans butt. So funny!! Thank you for the Video's. I wait for every new one. I have alot of health issues and will be starting radiation and chemo for cancer soon too. I get to see so much thru your Video's. Love you Jacob and Jen too. 🧡.❤🙏🙏
Joe is such a great mind... it's amazing how these artists think and create...I feel just like the amazing road side attractions are disappearing, these older Americans are also disappearing. Nothing will be the same after they are gone.😮💨😢💖
Next time your in Birmingham head north to gasden to Noccalula Falls and don't forget to stop off at Milo's and get the Mega Meal with sweet tea and apple pie!!
This has nothing to do with this video but CARPETBAGGER!!!: Universal has the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON MOLD-A-RAMA now in the gift shop at the MUMMY GIFTSHOP! If I recall yours was lost broken or you hadn’t gotten one yet. Just thought I would let you know.
Joe Minter is such an amazing person. Spending time with him in his environment is 1 of 2 things in my life I would describe as a spiritual experience. I don't use that term lightly. I always vote for more outsider art videos.
I had a boss when I was an archaeologist herE in birm8ngham that grew up on a mining housing camp and his dad “bought” all the family clothes and shoes and groceries at the company store for Birmingham Steel company practically a century ago
one of the things i've lamented since getting into roadside attractions is the lack of the african american experience in the dominant outsider art scene in this country. thanks for highlighting an example that such places exist; it immediately goes to the top of my "must visit" list and i hope we keep finding more of these artists who i know are out there and have yet to be celebrated!
There is a Vulcan art piece at the botanical gardens and there is one at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover- and perhaps at the zoo across the street from The Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Wish we had known you were coming thru. I wasn't sure if it was you that had asked me to telegram on a recent video or not, afraid to follow thru. A former high school teacher of mine works a Vulcan. Yes next visit to the city you must go to the hotel/restaurant and tie up yor dirigible - i think it is close the the heaviest corner on earth.
Very cool- thank you! Loved the African American folk art- such an interesting person (but I did have a little trouble understanding him with his strong dialect as I'm from CA) Looks like a fascinating story, and wonderful artist!! 😊
Have lived in Alabama for 10 years now and never knew the African American Village existed. Will make a point to see it next time I'm in Birmingham. Jacob, if you pass thru Huntsville, Al, wave as you go by.👋
I went to Vulcan when I was a kid, I’m from Birmingham and still live in Alabama, and we went when he was getting reconstructed so my dad and I got to take pictures with all his parts separated. Have a lovely picture under his ass cheeks lol
That man and His art are amazing and awesome, truly blessed with wisdom and Divine creativity 🙏✨💝✨🤩 Thank You for sharing Joe with Us Jacob 🙏💗😻 Bobble buns 🤣😂😹
When I think of Birmingham, I think of the 45th. Governor George Wallace. He was relentlessly fixated on not allowing a black student attending one of his high schools, even though it was planned by president Lyndon B. Johnson, due to the Governor supported Segregation.
Wonder what will happen to his endeavor after he passes on. Lots of creativity there with the right thinking "God is All". AL is a good place for something like this to be given their horrible past history.
The only thing about Joe I did not like was his "COVID IS DOO DOO" sign. If he knew people who had died from COVID, maybe he wouldn't think so little of it.
That Vulcan is done in the style of the giant Agam mural artwork on front of the Callahan Eye Hospital at UAB. EyeSight Foundation is based out of Callahan Eye Hospital.
That gentleman has been working on that project for 33 or 34 years, so literally my entire life. What an amazing project and dedication. Thank you for bringing us here!

@@alabama_pickin7014 It wouldn't make sense if I was talking about Jacob, but I'll edit it to avoid confusion.
Btw, that African village place is actually 2 hours away from where I live

Jacob, you are so cool for bring us places we would probably never see!! Joe is an amazing elder who dedicated his life to express himself through his art. You can tell every piece is his baby and he cares. I would love to visit him one day

Thanks for the video CB! May Vulcan's buns bless your further adventures!
Very nice trip Jacob, and i like how you respect and describe the owner and inventor of the African American Village.

Vulcan is awesome

Love the Vulcan and the bottle head. Moon over B-ham is priceless.
Such a great story about your emotional connection with Vulcan.
Ya ya! My hometown. Birmingham is an awesome little city. We've got a lot of hidden weirdos.
The Vulcan Museum n accompanying story dating back to 1904 was awesome!!! Loved the "unique" bobblehead!!!! Learned a lot of things watching this today!;! Thank you ever so, Carpetbagger!!! Attaboy again;;;
Soo interesting the guy making himself his own happiness with his own good stuff for himself and people can come to enjoy 😊

Cool! My neck of the woods!!! You should really go to Sloss Furnaces also. 16th Street Baptist Church is also nearby.
Joe Minter is such an amazing person. Spending time with him in his environment is 1 of 2 things in my life I would describe as a spiritual experience. I don't use that term lightly. I always vote for more outsider art videos.
You should visit American Village in Montevallo!! Wonderful colonial village complete with actors on site

Did we all miss the massive 4 head Remington razor? Or did I simply miss the comments about this myself??
There is a Vulcan art piece at the botanical gardens and there is one at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover- and perhaps at the zoo across the street from The Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Jacob notice you got a new hat 😊love it now you need more pins ❤❤❤❤❤❤
a lot of people now in days making art like his but he's been doing it since the 80s ,wow
My great grandfather worked at the Sloss Factory. He said it was haunted. He used to hear voices when he was working alone at night.
i never knew there was an african american village usually it's a museum.
but i didn't know that.
