My husband and I always shared the tent, but our last thru hike we each carried a one person tent. My husband tosses way to much, it was more comfortable for both of us to have our own tent. I think that will be our new normal. We also each carry our own water filtration system, our own bear bags, but share the stove for cooking. It works well for us. Elise, to answer your question, NOT on trail, we wait for zero days! ;)

We usually only go backpacking a week at a time, at most, but we are pretty stinky by then, so we wait till we have had a shower to get too close and personal lol

Great topic! I definitely carry significantly more than my wife (but that’s fine). Keeps her wanting to come more often. 🤔 hmmm. Is she playing me with that? Lol OH! To old to be intimate after a long hike! A good cuddle works fine! 👍👍😎

My wife & I - age 70 & 69 - have only backpacked for 3+ years now. We divvy up our gear - all the usual stuff - evenly. Our packs are same size and we hike together - always within talking distance. I - being a bit bigger & stronger - actually carry less. By a lb. or two. Or maybe 3. Why? Because she is tougher. Not even close. On a long, hot hard day, she is invariably waiting on me to keep up. Up those big southern Indiana hills - she waits on me.
