Whipped Cream Cakes Alternative | How to use Pastry Pride

  • Pastry Pride is a form of non-dairy whipped topping that can be used to frost and fill cakes. Whipped cream cakes are pretty popular, but can be difficult for the beginner. I'd heard of these frostings as alternatives to real whipped cream but never really used it for my desserts. Let's try together and see how this pipes, and frosts and fills a cake.
    I bought mine at Smart & Final, but I think you can try either a baker's specialty store or look in stores like Sam's Club for it.

    I love working with this type of whipped cream. In the early 90's I made 2 birthday cakes for my son. One was a Christmas stocking. The other was a Christmas tree. This stuff pipes beautifully. It also takes color well. Back then we only had access to those liquid dyes that you could purchase in any grocery store. That's what I used to get a deep green and red. I made those 2 cakes for the same day. One for my husband's side of the family. The other for my side (yes, my son gets 2 birthday cakes every yr, lol). It was a lot of work but SO worth it. What did make it a bit easier was working with this cream. Just in case others are looking for a place to buy this cream. If you have a Smart and Finals in your state/city you're sure to find it there. Enjoy. This is such a great product to work with... 👍

    • @YamiiCore27
      @YamiiCore27 2 года назад

      @@wahsdarb1013I use is fresh smashed fruit, remove excess of liquid before adding it into the cream. You can experiment with it because it also depends of weather, you may use the whipped cream directly from the freezer and it will get more consistency and if the puree is refrigerated will be better. But I think that probably would get a little runny.

    Thank you so much for this video. I've tried piping with whipped cream and getting consistency right to where it holds shape of icing tip but does have bubbles or overly stiff to where it's not piping smooth is difficult. I was wondering if non dairy whipping creams were good because I know some people are against anything that isn't all natural. But I think in this case, these non dairy whipping creams are better because whipping cream can weep easily even if stabilized.
    By the way what flowers did you use for top of strawberry cake? I think it would be hard to find a place with edible fresh flowers in my city in Texas

    • @Sugarologie
      @Sugarologie  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, that's always a tradeoff with these types of toppings. I suppose it depends on the person's definition of natural ;)
      But yeah, this stuff pipes soooo easily with little to no bubbles apparent when I'm done with the cake. It's incredibly stable as well so you're right, it lasts much longer than real whipped cream.
      Those flowers are called sweet alyssum, and they're typically sold at like home depot and lowes and stuff as an annual. I grow mine from seed so they're organic in my garden but you may be in the same situation in TX bc here in CA they are perennial. 🌸💗

    Hi the cake looks delicious and I'm the type of cake eater that don't like a lot of frosting so this would be my type of frosting. Also I use to by cakes from Sam's and I liked there frosting because it was light like cool whip. If you have tasted that type of frosting would you say it's like the kind you purchased?

    • @Sugarologie
      @Sugarologie  3 года назад

      I've heard of the ones from Sam's club! It comes in a huge bucket right - yeah so they are pretty similiar, it's just this one comes in liquid form that you have to whip up yourself. But yes, it's the same idea, very light in taste and texture for a frosting. 😀

    • @wahsdarb1013
      @wahsdarb1013 2 года назад +2

      Denise, I have tried both without flavoring them, just as is- the pros of the pastry pride are that you can make it in smaller batches yourself, so you have control of the amount and it's also much easier to store than Sam's. Their frosting must be kept frozen until ready to use and comes in a huge tub so it's harder to store! Both taste delicious in my opinion, but Sam's texture is just a bit firmer and not as smooth. It definitely feels pretty like whipped frosting and Pastry Pride feels more like whipped cream. Hope that helps!

    This is SO funny! Here’s the whole story: So I saw that Baskin Robins made a cake shaped like a turkey and thought how cute! Saw the price and said nope, i can make that, I’ve got time.
    I searched what kind of frosting they use.
    Then I searched how to use pastry pride. I saw this video and clicked on it because I liked the thumbnail.
    I follow you on instagram and thought “wow, she sounds exactly like Sugarolgie”
    Today I’m going to frost said turkey cake with the pastry pride i found at smart & final. I turn on the video again to make sure I follow your instructions (even though i saw it was on the packaging, I prefer the company of the video) thought “I wonder if this is what she looks like?” and saw it’s you!!
