- Today I started Cabenuva, which is an injectable HIV treatment option. Every four weeks, I will go to the clinic to get the cabenuva injections. Although there is no cure for HIV, the ability to no longer have to take pills is hugely relieving.
I just started my oral lead-in last week!! I had been on Dovato since April 2021 (got diagnosed in January 2021) and became undetectable fairly quickly. I had my 6 month check-up on the 16th of March and my doctor told me that I was ready to start the transition! WOO HOO! I'll GLADLY take the injections over a daily pill intake lol.

Thanks for sharing! Today marked the first of 28 days where I begin the oral "starter pills" introduction process to Cabenuva. I was beginning to be apprehensive after watching the various injection videos found on the internet. A mistake for sure as the rabbit hole was becoming ever darker. Once I viewed this up close and personal experience, I feel much relieved and more confident that I am making the correct decision for my ongoing health. Your the best!

So glad I found your page. Am in my 3rd month of Cabenuva shots and learning hacks as I go along in my journey. One thing I do now before my shots is to take an Advil (400mg) before my appointment (please check this with your Doctor). My day is still shot (no pun intended) but it really does help with the pain management. By the end of the second day am back to 'normal'. Really loving the freedom from HIV pills, still popping other pills though for the other unavoidable pills due to aging 🤣🤣. Keep up the wonderful work.

That’s a great suggestion. Taking a pain reliever BEFORE was also helpful.
It's very important to move after taking the shots. Take a walk, do a variety of leg day exercises - squats, lunges, kicks etc, keep moving around, and stretch your legs throughout the rest of the day. Take ibuprofen or Tylenol before bed time. You will have very little pain the next day.

Thank you for sharing this, I wish you all the best. I turned + six months ago and I'm on Juluca 1 x day. No side effects, thank God for that. I'm happy with the results but I would love to change to a six month injection, when they become available.

I was diagnosed at the age of 16 in 2005. I remember starting off with Reyataz, Norvir, and Truvada. The side effects were bad. For the last 4 Years I have been on Biktarvy. I just started the pill form for Cabenuva, and will start the injection on the 22nd. I was nervous, but after watching your video, I'm confident that my butt cheeks will be just fine lol. @Ernest Jenkins I'm sorry your wife had bad side effects, not everyone reacts the same. The first round of shots was pretty painful, it's 2 months now and I'm good as ever. If Cabenuva is affecting her negatively, then encourage her to talk with her doctor to see what other options she has. Best of luck to you buddy.

Okay so for anyone in the comments who is new to this and looking for an update, here is my experience with CABENUVA. I just got my second dose today, last month when I got my first dose the first day I experienced some soreness, tightness in the injection site. Day 2 and 3 that continues and the injection site also has a little bump. Day 4-7 were brutal. The pain increased and it was impossible to sit, lay down, sleep, sometimes even walk comfortably. On days 5/6 I cried in pain.
I’ve been told by my close friend who also is positive and is on the medication that these side effects get better after the 3rd or 4th dosage.
February is my next appointment as I am receiving the treatment bimonthly. If it does not get better in February, I will switch back to Biktarvy in April.
I was under the impression that not only is the injection easier than pills but that the side effects were less harmful. Being on any pill for a long time does damage to your organs, unfortunately, CABENUVA also impacts your liver and kidney which can increase your risk for failure and disease. So because the injections are not any more convenient than the daily pill, there is a good chance I will switch back.
Obviously talk to your doctors and do what’s right for you. But just make sure that you’re not prioritizing not having to take a pill. The pain may not be worth that.
I don’t feel comfortable talking about HIV with the people in my life, so this video was quite the biggest hug I could need. I got my first set of Cabaneuva shots yesterday and I feel really heavy and sore today/and lonely of course lol. Thanks for sharing your journey openly, I been watching since 2011 also when I was diagnosed. 🫂

Heartburn is also possible with the injectables. I take Biktarvy and the only side effects was headaches and the first weeks suicide thoughts what I never had with Genvoya and Stribild. But I never had heartburn fom Biktarvy. In Europe cabenuva is market as Vocabria and Rekambys. I hope this works for you.

I just received my first injection on Thursday (2 days ago), and received my shots in both buttocks and it looks like you received yours on your side? So far I’m only experiencing soreness on my left side, so it’s hard to put socks on or even get in/out of the shower. I’m hopeful the soreness will go away soon because it’s annoying.

My doctor sais there is a 1 procentage that devellop recistance with the injections.
Thats why he preferrs to wait to give it to people here in Belgium (to get more results).
In his opinion this is a high number.
With the current pill medication the chance for devellop recistance for meds is 0 procent. What do you know about this?
Then Your doc lies because everybody with a Raltegravir, Elvitegravir,Dolutegravir and starting Bictegravir resistance also develops a cabotegravir resistance! With these med and also Bictegravir yu can't have a NRTI, NNRTi or integrase inhibitor resistance!

Did you have resistance during those ten years with the pills for your treatment? And if so, there is no problem to start this new inyectable treatment?
No prior resistance before starting Cabenuva. I also was on multiple Meds.
Which year u know that u have infected with HIV how many years ago and what treatment u take those years and when cabenuva injection came in India

Yes I had the injection site pain only for the first three injections. I’m much better now.

Honestly the process was seamless. Outside of the bad heartburn for two weeks it was not hard at all. They did ask for me to take the lead in medication with food.

I never tried this treatment but I had the HPV injection and the first dose was uncomfortable; the second dose, however, was much better, it seems the body got used to it.
