Pretty much agree with everything you're saying here. I kind of treat analogue compressor emulations (and actually purely digital models too) as "presets" because you can get one to sound like another but dialling in compression can be pretty difficult and time consuming so it's often easier just to grab something which defaults to the sound that you want.

Makes sense! Yeah, that's what guys like Chris Lord-Alge do: he has, like, 4-5 limiters set a certain way and feeds the tracks into them. Never touches the dials. Cheers!

Agreed. I use channel strips for efficiency but certain analog modeled compressors cannot be replaced. And yes, the stock compressor on FL studio isn't as interesting either but it's still transparent. I find myself reaching for them with a stock EQ or TDR Nova lol. Great video

Thank you so much! Yes, I don't want to be too mean to Cubase's stock compressor; it is very clean and well-made, and I use it for VO all the time. Thanks for watching, cheers!

Love how some of the compressors really brought out the percussion in that loop. How is that u-he compressor? 🤔

My thoughts exactly. u-he Presswerk is just insanely good, like Zebra: under-used and underrated.

What do you think of Kush Novatron?

It's excellent. Kush really knows his shit. Mind you, it's been awhile since I tested it; I'll have to revisit.

It’s not volume knob , it’s a phase shift of a freq mixed in various amounts with the dry signal

I thought you were commenting on the analog EQ video! What did I say about volume knobs?

@@palebluedotstudios They're probably referring to the bit at 1:04 where you talk about EQs. That why it's important to time-stamp your comments, people, nobody will otherwise know what the hell you're talking about when commenting.

@@vinylarchaeologist Thanks, @vinylarchaeologist ! Yes, I'm mentioning analog EQs in reference to my previous video, which you can watch here: ruclips.net/video/y89IsUOY0fM/видео.html

Thanks for the suggestion! I'd be happy to. I agree, the topic needs more exploration. I'll add that to my list. I use them all the time to prevent overs and control dynamics. Cheers!

I’ve seen some of your videos and I don’t understand your approach. For example, the video in which you say why you don’t use channel strips to equalize, that it’s tedious, that they don’t give anything different, and that you can do it the same and faster with a digital EQ, and you start using a Lindell Neve and you have no idea what it does, how it works, like when you say why there are less bands in the EQ stage when you press the number 84, and that’s because the Neve EQ 84 has more bands than the Neve EQ 73, which is the other option that Lindell offers you in the channel strip. And you imply that it’s weird and it’s complicated and blah blah. If you knew what a Neve 73 is like, and what differentiates it from the Neve 84, you wouldn’t be such an amateur making your videos. and maybe you could study a little more... you complain that channel strips take up a lot of your time, but how much time does it take you to make your videos, edit them, etc., which obviously have work put into them, but you don't have time to understand what you do, which is audio, because I don't think you consider yourself a youtuber and audio is something secondary, rather the opposite... and in this video you compare compressors that have nothing to do with each other, and you say that you can do the same thing with any compressor, and that's why you recommend people not to buy or use analog modeling compressors... let me tell you that what you do in the video you can even do with a digital saturator, you don't even need to use a compressor... but that's not the point, the point is that the arguments in your videos are quite poor or lack professional seriousness. All the audios you use compressors on sound totally different from each other, and none of them sounds better or worse, it’s just a matter of taste… and the 1176 or the la2a aren’t better than the stock compressor that comes with your daw, they’re just different, focused on certain uses and not on anything. You can do the same thing with just one compressor on the whole mix no matter what the process is (compress peaks, compress rms, glue, etc etc), of course, and if you have the skill you can do it well, you’ll do it better than using the right compressor for each thing, I doubt it. The same thing happens with your video, you compare a bunch of things that have nothing to do with each other, you say, hey look, I can also make this drum sound with free plugins and my daw’s compressor, and you draw a conclusion as to why you shouldn’t use analog modeling compressors, and what’s worse, you tell people not to use them. your videos are pretty much garbage, they don't educate, they don't build on the complex aspects of audio, they don't give tools to make things understood... do what you want, but let people tell you that you shouldn't do those either. and in all the time it takes you to make these videos, maybe you could learn to equalize faster with analog eqs or understand their emulations, and not make videos complaining that they take up your time and that they are not practical like a digital eq, don't you dedicate yourself to music? or do you just want to be famous on youtube and that's why you prefer to spend your time making videos and not learning the difference between a neve 73 eq and a neve 84 eq? bye
