I used to have quite an extensive Gene collection. I decided to narrow my focus and sold all my 16” dolls, except for 1 Gene doll who was my 1st. She has sentimental value 🥰

Gene is amazing! She appears to be the Crème de Cassis doll and is wearing the costume Crimson Sun. The makeup was inspired as if she was in a black and white film, because if you were to take a photo of her in black and white, she’d look like she’s on the silver screen. Enjoy her! 😊✨

This Gene "Red Venus" but I purchased her from the designer and that was the outfit fit he selected. Grant when I send the evening gown if I can I will also include a hat box signed by "Tod Olem" I think 🤔🧐 I spelled his name incorrectly. TTFN k'lyn
Ah, I thought it could be Red Venus, but her hair seemed shorter than the one I used to own. And the signature should be Mel Odom. His Gene doll went through several iterations over the years. All stunning.
She screams old Hollywood ! The bathing suit and wrap is cute but I think she would be even more stunning in a 40's bress with sunglasses

I never heard of these dolls but she's so beautiful. I love her hair and the blue makeup. The ones from the magazine remind me of Marilyn Monroe. I guess that was the theme of early Hollywood starlets. Her outfit is absolutely beautiful and i love the hat with the florals too.

Congratulations on your first Gene doll. She is a beautiful doll. At the time they came out I wanted Robert Tonner dolls so I bought two of the Tyler Wentworth dolls and a Sydney Chase doll. I didn’t buy them all at once and never got around to getting a Gene doll. I hope you get a Tonner doll as well.

I have Gene and her boyfriend and tons of outfits. I was Gene crazy back in the day and I can't even tell you how much I spent on her outfits. Wow I totally forgot about her. My sister had Madra, she was like the villainous stepsister hahaha

She is stunning! Congrats! I really enjoyed your review. The only 16" dolls I had were the Brenda Starr dolls by Effanbee (later Tonner). They were quite beautiful, but a little too big for my tastes because they took up a lot of space so I ended up selling them. The only big doll I have in my collection is the I Dream of Jeannie porcelain doll by Danbury Mint because I'm a huge Jeannie fan. She's 18" tall!!!

Oh, and I believe your doll is a Red Venus Gene...she was one of the three dolls that were first released...she came in a red gown originally...and the hair used on the Ashton-Drake dolls is the best...it can be brushed and restyled over and over...
Yes you’re right!!!! I found inside the box a COA that says red Venus !!!! I’m so happy ! She is incredible. I’ll have to find her original dress too!!!!
@@dolls2remember There were TONS of this doll made back in the 90's, so you should be able to find her complete outfit cheaply online...heck, even a complete dressed doll goes for less than a new Monster High doll! The older Gene dolls can be found at very reasonable prices now, so you could build a tidy collection for less than $200...enjoy...

I recommend these dolls you can get them cheap and they are good quality. The downsides are their size, and they have the same facial screenings. Also, check out other dolls in this line like Violet Waters and Madra.

@@dolls2remember Starting in 2003, the dolls started having different facial screenings and also got more natural colored eyebrows...plus they had the fuller articulation at knees, waist and elbows....sadly, most of the 2002 and 2003 doll bodies began to get discolored and brittle...I have rebodied most of my dolls from those years because the faces were so beauitful!
