  • Three Gene dolls reviewed. Gene Marshall was made from 1995 to 2005 by Ashton Drake Galleries and Mel Odom. These are great dolls! How do you like them? Their eye make-up?

I don't believe I've ever seen a Gene doll so it was very interesting to see and hear about them...thanks for sharing!
I hope you are doing as well as you appear - that color you're wearing really suits you. Hope you guys are having a wonderful weekend - give that kitty a rub for me!

I enjoyed this video, I discovered Gene dolls when we were all in the lock down period, I fell in love and started to collect, I joined the Gene Marshall group and I was made very welcome, I own about 30 now, I also have 3 Tonner dolls it's a great hobby
There is a video of Mel Odum doing an interview on you tube, it is very interesting he seems a really lovely guy, apparently there were conventions in America and he attended them, I would love to have met him, unfortunately I live in the UK and never heard of these fabulous dolls

Thank you for sharing your Gene dolls. I collect Robert Tonner 16” fashion dolls and I am hoping to add a Gene doll to the collection sometime soon. I think they may be able to share some fashions. They are lovely. I really like the Covent Garden one but they are all gorgeous. 💕

I have never even heard of gene ,I wouldn't be able to resist I'd have them out of the box ,you are very patient to leave them N.I.B .they kinda remind me of modern integrity. they are very adult collectors

Thanks for sharing those beautiful Gene dolls. I appreciate the Gene doll without actually owning any. I have the book they put out about the doll, because that artwork is so amazing. For me personally though, I'm just not as much into the 40's look or very round faced dolls. Even round faced dolls like Ever After High or Rainbow High, just don't inspire me to collect them. But Gene is a class act, a high quality doll with a unique and distinctive look, and I always enjoy looking at the doll, just never had the need to buy one.
I am only speculating why Mr. Odom stopped producing Gene after 10 years. But I think it could be that it's expensive to produce a high quality doll like that. And takes a lot of effort in supervising the production of a fine collectible doll, to keep the quality and standards up. So a full decade of that is probably enough for some. Few dolls have Barbie's longevity, and we've seen Barbie's standard and quality go up and down over the decades. But Barbie also has had many different designers and heads of staff in all that time. For Gene it might have been mainly just Mel Odom behind the doll designs and production and that's a lot for one person. This is from the Wiki about the years following when Mr. Odom stopped HIS Gene doll and others took over. - "Between 1995 and 2005 the dolls were manufactured by the Ashton-Drake Galleries. From 2005 to 2010 the dolls were produced by Jason Wu and made by Integrity Toys. They have a dedicated following and have inspired other characters in the line: Madra Lord, Violet Waters, Ivy Jordan, Trent Osborn, Zita Charles, real-life movie actress Marsha Hunt, and the mysterious Oona Bellwether. These dolls are also popular for artists' one of a kind repaints. In 2013 Gene was reborn into the 21st century and brought back to life as a resin ball jointed doll, by JAMIEshow Dolls USA."

Gene dolls are gorgeous, but they're a little too large and too rich for me. i always enjoy looking at Gene doll photos though. My eyes keep going behind you at the Japanese Barbie doll wearing the Mego dress.
    She's looking really good. Lol
