Aaaah! I’m so excited to see your Anne Boleyn all finished-and to see your first spinning! Just a few tips:
    1. That fleece is a Gotland x Border Leicester mix with a really long staple length (6+ inches!). It would benefit from being combed & worsted spun rather than carded. You can also just “pick” the yarn rather than buying combs.
    2. That spindle is big & chunky and will make heavier weight yarn. I’d look up how to use a “supported spindle” since that might be easier to start with for such a heavy spindle!

I think you choose colors and projects that are very much my style which is really fun and inspiring.

    Hi Bella,
I love your shawl and edge,I think it is my favourite one I have seen. So with the spinning, I would buy a wheel before I bought a drum carder. I am a wheel spinner, you can buy second hand, look for a spinning weaving guild near you- good place to look for second hand. If you are going to use that drop spindle,I would just buy hand carders, and make rolags. Louët wheels are great,I just got my second one, both second hand.can wait to see your waist coat.

Your Anne Boleyn is looking ah-making! Can’t wait to see the final reveal. I really like your edging on the Shawlography. I have been contemplating frogging my shawl as I really don’t like the edge in the pattern and I haven’t been liking how my colours have come together in the whole shawl. Maybe I will salvage it and give this edging a try. That,s a great ball of Wool Ease- love the colours. It should make a great hat or mitts. I am currently knitting colour work Newfoundland mitts from Saltwater Mittens with rustic yarn from Fleece and Harmony in their Selkirk Worsted (farm to yarn in Prince Edward Island)- How Canadian is that? Lol! Still lots of winter ahead here to test them out!

    Hi Bella,
    Beautiful shawl and jacket!
I can't wait to see the finished object! I can't wait to see you start your spinning adventure!
    Spinning advice:
    1. Start with practicing on a fiber that your not overly attached to. Chances are your first couple of yarns will not be very nice. They tend to be very uneven and feel like rope. This is not to say that you can’t/shouldn’t use the fleece that you have, I just wouldn’t get your expectations up too high for your first spin. Spin whatever makes you happy! But, Corriedale is a good beginner friendly fiber if you're interested in practicing before you try spinning your fleece.
    2. For carding, I recommend starting with 2 dog slicker brushes. That is the most inexpensive and easy way to start. If your find that you like it, then, you could upgrade to to a set of hand cards, combs, or a drum carder. Do not get a blending board thinking that you can use it to card your fiber. It’s a great tool, but it’s used for blending fiber once it has already been prepped.
    3. Have fun and save a sample of your first yarn! It’s so fun to look back and see how far you have come as a spinner.
    4. I recommend checking out these RUclips channels. They have helped me grow as a spinner.
    *Trish from Fiber Love Diary
    *Evie from JillianEve
I hope this helps. I’m still new to spinning so take all of this with a grain salt. Best wishes to you!

Hi- new viewer here. You do beautiful work! For spinning- I would start out with a mid-long staple top that is already combed just to get the feel of spinning before delving into those beautiful locks. Perhaps a merino or BFL. Once you are feeling comfortable in the spinning process, hand cards will work great to comb the locks. Hope you have fun spinning!

    • @HundredAcreWool
      @HundredAcreWool  2 года назад

  • @intheyellowcorner

Your jacket is incredible! It's really beautiful. Also, don't feel discouraged if you struggle with the drop spindle. I really was sooo bad with the spindle, but it all changed when i got me wheel, and I got on so much better with that. One wee tip is that if your singles keep breaking, try a lighter/smaller spindle. That looks like quite a heavy one, which is good for thicker yarns.

Good morning, I bought the book Tudor Roses, because I saw your Anne Boleyn. Your colors are fantastic on the screen. I would like to know if your colors are similar on the screen than the reality? I ask you that because I received from Virtual yarn two colors for the Elizabeth of York and the colors are not like I saw on the screen. But I am pleased with the colors that I received. You are doing a fantastic job! Excuse my English, because I’m a French Canadian.

    • @HundredAcreWool

Wonderful to hear! In this video I do think the colors of the Anne Boleyn are accurate to life, however I have noticed that this yarn changes a lot depending on the lighting so that may be why the other yarns looked different to you.

for carding you can try and use hand carders but instead of the investment right away, you can get a dog brush. My friend actually prefers it! Wool n spinning has some good resources for spinning especially on her patreon. Love your podcast!
