This is a side effect of these games being developed with CRTs in mind. If you play these with component cables on a decent CRT they look as good as emulation it really is wild how much difference there is based on the type of monitor used with these classic games.
I imagine on a CRT with Component or RGB SCART the image would look incredible, especially if they support 480p! I still love both emulation & real hardware using my OSSC so, I'm happy with my setup :)
Amazing showcase! PS2 in 4K looks very close to PS3 in most cases, which shows how strong PS2's game design was. Very surprised to see the emulator struggling with some minor effects. I still try to apply shaders even to the upscaled image cause I'm in love with the older PS2 look and it does make the games look even better cause the texture resolution is still low. Also, didn't know there was an emulator for Mac! Thanks!
If you want to emulate on Mac now, you must use PCSX2 as AetherSX2 stopped production late last year :o I understand & many people love the shapes but I'd rather have the sharp look, albeit using software rendering so it looks more like real PS2 hardware with RGB scart :) Good thing we now have the ability to choose how we want the games to look with emulation!
Incredible work as always. Most of the time I prefer to keep my PS2 saved and play in 4k with all the upgrades, sometimes it could be confused with PS3
I used real PS2 hardware with Component cables, going to my OSSC upscaler which I then used to line multiply the resolution (or passthrough in the case of interlaced output) & then scaled it up to 4K using OBS to give viewers the best video quality possible, all at 100mb/s :)
Although I love collecting when we get FPGA emulation scaled to 4K for that zero input lag I don’t see the point in myself buying original hardware anymore. Emulation options just look so damn good.
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial I may buy the pixelfx morph 4k as I believe when the analog supports drop that thing will be very close to the king for a fraction of the price
Thank you & it is a combination of the use of higher bit-rate colour output along with it just being recorded on a different display or upscaler in the case of the OSSC :) That's why the colours look a bit different :)
I'd like to play RE outbreak but loading doors screen are too long. Do you know a way to shrinking the time or even skiping the loading screen? Thank you for your work
Yes, it has thankfully stepped up & now can be used on all platforms that support PCSX2 :) Got a upcoming video on the current version of PCSX2 vs real hardware this week!
Yes, at the end of the video I also mention this fact :o These days, PCSX2 now works on Mac using the Metal Api so it makes AetherSX2 irrelevant now but for a long time, this was the best emulator or ARM chips!
Here's an updated version of my AetherSX2 Vs Real PS2 Hardware video! Better sound, 4K video & other clean ups were done on this! Hope you enjoy!

@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial Yeah man its sweet
Glad to see Haunting Grounds!
Awesome vid!❤
Thank you, it is an interesting game :)

Thank you, appreciated :)

Nothing wrong with that :) The beauty of this is we can play our games exactly as we like :)
Sorry, noob here. Do you mean play in the original ps2 hardware in 4k monitor?

I don't blame you & most of my gaming has moved to emulation but I still love real hardware & I will always keep my consoles :D

@@retropursuit992 It will be worth keeping an eye on & it is great to see more additions to the market :)
top notch comparison, keep it up man...
Thank you, there's more like this on the channel if you are interested :)
Excellent comparison! Very well done. One question: why the colors looks so different on some games like Silent Hill 3?

Wow! Tekken appears to be a PS3 game. Awesome work. Greetings from Brazil.
It does get a nice boost although, I recommend any NTSC version to get access to 480p to make it look even better :)

In the options tab, you can Increase the Fast forward function and use a shortcut key to activate it to speed up the game :)
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial thank you man for your answer! ❤
@@viola0livido Hope it helps :)
It would be interesting to know if Katamari and Okami would run better on the emulator than in their respective remasters
Maybe one day :)
I can always see in the future :)
PCSX2 Nightly is where it's at.

Got a upcoming video on the current version of PCSX2 vs real hardware this week!
@@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial Cool! Can't wait to watch it. I loved watching your in depth comparison of an emulator and real hardware capture footage.
It will be out later this evening & although shorter than normal (It's an EX episode) it should still contain some good comparisons!
Colin McRae Rally 2005 looks better than the WRC ports for Switch
The PC or XBOX versions look even better!
Aethersx2 has the ability to leave all games set in eastern Europe with that dark fliter xD
Only the best xD
Silent Hill 3 looks almost like a PS3 game, could even pass for an early launch title PS3 game in fact.
It did get a massive graphics upgrade with 4K which I did enjoy :)
AetherSX2 was abandoned, sadly, could've been way better in a couple of years.
Yes, at the end of the video I also mention this fact :o

Pretty sure it got a May 2024 update on Xbox. So while it's not very active, it's not completely dead.
Im trying to get sh 3 to run on my g53 gov fone
I hope you are able to make it work :)
AetherSX2 Dead 😢
Luckily PCSX2 now works on Mac & I wouldn't be surprised if it works on Android too so, although a shame, the PS2 emulation scene has thrived since :)
