    This was the video that motivated me to learn Unreal (Using 3ds Max and VRay for years) Now the future is obviously real time!

      blender+ue4 u can creat this insainly quick.
      blender for creating the modles in lightning speed, using add ons like archi mesh, or hand model you can creat one scene easily in one day.
      press button, its in ue4
      have your preset of materials drop it on.
      press button enable lumen.
      place some lights
      and play around.
      and like he said you can creat additional scripts that help you automatically place things
      (ue4 widget utilities/bluetilities)
      what most ppl forget is the new particle system, niagara and the physics engine chaos, that will easily help you creat fire etc or help you relasticly scatter rocks on the ground.
      you essentially can let fall some rocks on the ground and have them realistically place themself.

      as a rich person whom doesnt give a shit that this engine has such high specs now that the 550,000 people that were using it when 2 -3 years ago it was 45000 are going to begin to have to look elsewhere cause unreal 5 you cant get the hard ware affordably
      nope you gone done yourselves out of people to squeeze and that fortnite game looks like shit and is boring

      its Microsoft created new pipeline how to handle geometry, called as Mesh Shaders on DX12.2
      UE5 just use that, but they a first who implemented that so fast in their engine

    Would be wonderful to see how the sun lights up the house depending on the season and time of day. How shifting a window changes that. To see where you will get hot spots, constant shadows and moist traps. You could even simulate the growth of trees and bushes and see how these affect the lightning conditions.

    Since this video is about the Unreal engine, I thought I'd bring this up. Back in the day ( 1998 ) , there was a game called Unreal. It was a single player FPS that ran on Unreal 1 engine. The game was way ahead of its time for when it was released. I'd sure love to see that game remade in Unreal Engine 5.

      @@thespartanjello5056 I had the same moment during the first mission in Doom Eternal Ancient Gods. I just sat there for a few minutes marveling at the depth and fluidity of that water. Having tinkered with motion graphics applications before, I can say that making convincing water is damned hard to do.

    It actually does not render billions of triangles at 60 fps. It only renders millions because thats all that is needed at any one time, depending on distance from the mesh it will render more or less details since it holds the data for billions of triangles if your meshes have such dense detail.

      There are only roughly 8 million pixels in a 4K image, so yea, it's technically impossible to render more triangles than that. And all graphics engines iterate over pixels, NOT triangles. In other words neither are there that many triangles stored anywhere in memory, nor is the engine ever dealing with that many triangles in any form or shape. The number is completely made up and nothing but a PR lie.

      p.s. its on by default in unreal 5 and you dont have the old system at all...so you need lots a cores HIGH cpu ghz and UBER high end graphic cards.

      @@DarthChrisB That's not strictly true. To render a scene the objects (vertices or triangles in object space) are held in memory, this goes through a vertex shader in the GPU, which in turn goes through a rasterizer to turn those triangles into pixel (screen-space) values; The geometry IS held in memory (though this can mean different things depending on where it is stored). So you can have more triangles than pixels - and it can be a real rendering problem, so we try to reduce it in "games" as framerate is king. To simplify things, game engines do a lot of tricks to load/unload geometry that is not needed by the GPU memory, or are not needed at the same level of detail. So a scene can have billions of triangles contained within it (entirely on storage) - and depending on what is happening, parts of that get loaded (into memory). Nanite is a tool that cleverly works out which geometry to load, and at what level of detail based on the screen space view. The point of Nanite is that as a developer you only need to worry about the raw (high polygon) models and let the engine do the work of optimising it at runtime.

    This is an excellent video delivering a very digestible amount of information but still making an important point - a lot of conservative architect and other visualization companies need to see this, and not the least their customers :) Here in Japan construction and architect related firms are more than conservative - they are ultra conservative. Small design firms use free CAD software to avoid the cost of Autocad etc. Visualizations suffer, and real-time walkthrough are almost never used. We are also great fans of VR which brings realism much closer to how we perceive and move in the world - like in a house. When UR5 can work to its full capacity in VR we are in the Matrix - and I wonder what all those firms using free software will do then :)

    I’m looking forward to the full release of UE5. I’ve been messing around with the preview release and it’s pretty fun, but it’s not finished of course. Things like some meshes just not registering with Lumen (so they don’t bounce light and also appear black in reflections), super grainy shadows that don’t respond to any tweaks, it’s not meant to work perfectly yet. Full release is going to be really exciting though!

    Nice video.
    I remember going to the Unreal Academy in 2019 as an architect and being blown away by the leaps of other industries compare to the AEC environment.
    Sooo difficult to sell UE to the directors in the office as it is still not seen as "necessary" or requested by the client specifically.
    One thing that I learn from other industries is that you don't answer an existing question, that is NOT innovation. Innovation is when you create the question and answer it. So giving the client a UE5 game of their house for free the first time will give you an edge on the competition and more clients will request it.
    But again - soo difficult to sell this...

      go see what they cost....
      if you can find one
      fuck unreal 5 till proces are reduced on hardware

    Thank you - your videos are always really interesting. I've been using unreal for years both as a design tool and for clients to see the scheme. I agree unreal 5 is a dream come true. being able to move things around and not have to bake light is liberating. My limitation is with glass. I've not figured out how to get good results and wondered if you have a solution?

    Biggest reason the industry is so slow to adopt it is because the workflow and preparation of assets is incredibly tedious. It also requires a staff trained in various tools to get the most out of it.
    In many ways it’s similar to how the adaption process was for REVIT ( it’s still not widely used below a certain project size) the biggest different is the construction industry spends 90% of its time between project execution and management, where creation / marketing gets the last 10 shiny % - so to incentive for agencies and business owner has always been skewed towards execution.
    I think EPIC has realized that and that’s why they’re heavily investing in education and creating all kinds of blueprints and assets you can use for free

    I always said we architects spend too much time modeling when the key factor is in the materials its textures...myself as minimalist feel comfortable with simple lines and letting interiors designer to do their work: Unreal allows you to explore and feel better the space which is the most important for architecs

    I wanted to know how to take an object and transform it into a virtual catalog by unreal, the person being able to rotate the object, that information appears in it, would it be possible?

    You should also take a look at Godot 4.0. It has a similiar real-time global illumination system as Unreal 5 (Unity is lacking behind both of them...). Compared to Unreal Engine 5, it is a tiny engine and open source. Licening issues/complexity have been an anoying factor in real-time visualization. Having an open source alterntive in the backhand is always a good idea.

      a) Unreal has the source code available for download, so you can modify to your hearts content.
      b) the licensing royalties only apply to games so they shouldn't be an issue with arch-vis.

      @@3draven 1. Yes, but there are limitations to that. It is not the same as a license under MIT license.
      Most anoying is that it is incompatible with some other licenses. Not a big fan of GPL anyway though...
      2. Interactive product or game doesn't matter. The same terms apply. That includes royalty payments to Epic and limitations and restrictions.
      Read the licensing agreement. It is ok in my eyes, but you can quickly end up in a legally gray area if you assume you can do everything with it.
      That being said - I like Epic as a company and UE isn't as restrictive as Unity. ;)

    i worked in arch viz for 6 years using unreal and i heard alot of talk about unreal and vr being the future.
    not the way the industry is going about it its not. i spent 6 years dealing with managers and seniors who didnt have a clue how unreal worked or how it should be used and got paid a pittance to fix broken dogpile projects.
    working in the games industry now and am better employed than ive ever been.

      Hello, it may be strange to ask questions like this in a place like this, but suddenly.
      4 years archviz in blender, absolute exhaustion, people not understanding how it works. The ability to work in the industry in blender is also limited. I started out learning 3d, moved into it with enthusiasm, but all my years it was that no one needed it, a simple chore.
      And now I don't see an opportunity to change that, nor do I have the desire or energy.
      Perhaps hear your opinion, as to what direction in gamedev can successfully take the skills learned here? I'm not a very good modeller, I like creating environments more, had to deal with stage, optimization, lighting, systemizing processes and stuff like that. Setting up materials - I've dealt with a lot of render engines, have some understanding of why and how it works, why and what it's done for, rather than just memorized poking and using assets.
      Right now I think it would be cool to do something like this in gamedev, create worlds, but how it works, what the jobs are and what the demand is, I have no idea...

    I totally understand your point with this video, but this discussion should occur too in the context of different countries. A high-end spec PC able to render such images can cost more than 6x the monthly income of an architect. The amount of capital required can be prohibitely expensive, which in turn favours still images in terms of costs. However, all clients prefer to interact with architecture, in a video-game like approach, and do want to make adjustments and changes in real time, so no question here that this is the future.

    The reason why we don’t yet use ue5 is the problem with trees and other vegations… also the camera has no tiltshift.

      @@inventaur7793 ue5 is not working with highpoly trees and vagitation to slow and crashing. Tilt shift is not working in a pipeline way in ue4. Maybe ue5 has tiltshift?

    With the advent of lumion, enscape and twin motion, I think the industry will have tools like unreal that are far more tailored and more importantly with a far shallower learning curve. Unreal Engine is a masterpiece but with that comes all the complexity of 3ds max, cinema 4D etc and then some. My firm would probably be willing to pay me to develop the model and use unreal engine to render it, what they certainly will not do is pay for me to learn it. That is the current conundrum at my office. So I am relegated to using whatever I already know how to use or worse, what my company is willing to purchase.

    It may not be possible but if Nanite and Lumen make it inside of the 3D packages then that sounds like a game changer. Then instead of something like V-Ray RT you turn on Lumen and continue editing your model. Boom industry hot-cakes.
    Now if I can just model spaces with dynamic indirect illumination while walking through it in high-res VR, I'll be golden (dynamic audio would be nice too). No? Born too early?

    I've used 3ds max and blender for many years. I really want to use UE for final frame rendering but every time I try, unreal kills me. Import time, having to rebuild materials, crashing, lighting not making sense... I'm totally lost with UE and I can't figure out what I keep doing wrong. I've sunk so many nights of time trying to get somewhere with it. It just doesn't make any sense for visualisation. I just can't consolidate the time it takes to convert complex assets. If anyone knows of any resources that are available I'm willing to learn.

    You didn't followup on your 1-2-3 structure enabling. Also, is the software at the end of the video Twinmotion? Because UE5 has a much too complex interface for just ArchViz, unless you want to import custom assets it's not worth it.

    Tell us about first game which will use Unreal Engine 5.0 ?

    The next few years are going to totally amaze gamers around the globe. Once developers wrap their head around and start implementing UE5 into their games, we are going to see an incredible fundamental switch to what was once considered photo realistic, to what actually is… Thanks in part to the engine itself and the advent of incredible upscaling technology that is allowing developers to get the most out of the engine at incredible framerates, with all of the bells and whistle‘s turned up to near max. With the upscaler finishing off what already looks incredible, by taking it to the next level and making it look close to or sometimes better than true 4K @60fps. Again, with high or max settings, including raytracing and global illumination.
    It’s definitely going to be a truly amazing generation and even more so next when everything matures to the point where people are going to find it hard to distinguish the game from the real world. I’m hoping that physics follow the graphical leaps, so that the physical properties of objects match those of the real world and therefore allow an interaction like we’ve never seen before. Where players are given the freedom to now use the environment as a weapon, instead of just shooting enemies in the face. Shooting buildings that have pieces fall down on top of their enemies and enemies having the ability to do the same. Making you scope out an area before you blindly run to cover which may not offer much, because of the threat from above from the physics objects all around you. The future is exciting to think of, when it comes to video games.

    If I want to make many rooms in Unity with a Lightswitch, where you can turn On/off the light, how can I make this without Realtime lighting, because the Light should be only rendered, if the state of the lightswitch changed and not in every frame without any need because this will waste a lot of performance of you render a light in every frame ant not only once, but I can't use baked lights, if the player should change the state of the Lightswitch because I don't know how to render the baked lights while the game is running...

      I know in UE4 you can create multiple lightmaps and blend between them later, Unity might have something like that if you search around.

    Hmm.. But there is already Evee (Blender) engine which is the game engine.

    Any idea why the interior design industry is so slow to adapt new technologies? I've been shocked how slow they've been to take advantage of technology to help communicate and sell decor, lighting designs and overall designs. As a marketing professional, I've been shocked how stagnant some industries are... some STILL don't think they need a website

    Yeah graphics are amazing i think but I'm still using ue4 because I'm only just using styled graphics not photo realistic.

    Does that mean that we don't need to have a UV map for geometry with lumin? or do we still need it for texture?

      You still need some UVs for texture. Just dont need to dig as deep or make a second version for lightmap purposes if you want a custom one. Also unreal 4 automatically makes a another uv unwrap for lightmaps for the object you bring in without datasmith. Its automatic so sometimes its not good, but most of the time its fine.

      @@Flashbangs_ thanks. UV was a pain in the ass tho. We always working with sculptural forms and sometimes it is almost impossible to uv (both automatically by zbrush and manually by rizomUV). We use vertex colour as mask so that we could blend material and render in octane. But if we could do something similar in UE, that would be insane.

    What i was saying for the past year is that we're crazy not to adopt UE5 because our one picture per hour will not compete with 60 pictures per second.
    The architectural community doesn't seem to understand it and is very lazy to adopt it.
    I guess it's better for those who understand it. Will be very easy to get clients.

      Working in practice, a lot of this gets exported out to China while I try to work in other things, but is working through the interface of UE5 any faster than working through the UI of TwinMotion to tweak things?

    No one talks about the ungodly time Unreal takes to compile shaders

      It only does it one time, and You can store them on network storage so only first computer in studio has to do it, and others can just download compiled shaders from LAN.
      It's not a big problem in the long run.
