- We're at the Virgin Islands National Park and today we hike the entire Reef Bay Trail, one of the island favorites. The 4.4 mile out-and-back trail covers almost 1,000 feet of elevation change. At the end is the sugar plantation ruins and the beautiful shoreline. Hiked on April 28, 2021.

This was a really great trail. The rain was a bit challenging, but it was rain forest like and pretty.
You are a trooper for sure Julie :) I would have been right there with ya in regards to the slow and steady pacing :)
Memorable way to celebrate the anniversary! :)
Sounds like you visited in the summer time. I can imagine a bit uncomfortable in the 🌧 🌦. It must have been easy to spot the petroglyph with the water and all.
Another great video! I really wanted to do this trail when I visited Virgin Islands National Park in January, but I drove by the trailhead. Like you said, it is hard to find! Instead, I continued on to the Ram Head Trail, which was also an exceptional hike. But I am glad I could do the Reef Bay Trail vicariously through your video!
Beautiful to read, Thomas! We missed Ram Head... just ran short on the time. Heard it is fantastic!
I’ve just recently found you on RUclips when I was planning my trip to Utah, and I love your videos! ( and UTAH🧡) you have a great voice and spirit! I did hike Angels Landing in Zion weeks ago. What saved me was the temperature, I don’t know how people do that hike in the heat of the summer!I wanted to ask you is Ramshead as hard or harder then Angels Landing? Heading to St John in two weeks and looking to do this trail. TMI, but just turned 60… thoughts? Thanks for all your videos they are all awesome!👍🏼
Appreciate the kind words and welcome to the channel! Congrats on your Angels Landing summit! Didn't make it all the way out to Ramshead, but don't believe it's much like AL. The hike we did in this video took some effort. Sharp elevation change at the end. I was 56 at the time. If you did AL, this one is very doable (with no sharp drop-offs). It's a great hike!
Hello America's Parks! 🧜♂️🧜♀️ Had a Drill Sergeant, and he once told me, that Army training in the rain builds character. Looks like you and Julie built a ton of character on that trail hike..lol. Happy Anniversary, and God Bless...
Thanks, Glenn! Great comment!
What an amazing place. Again the history and most impressive diversity in wildlife and flora/fauna. Such troopers in the rain to boot :) As an outdoor educator we hiked with our students rain or shine and definitely know that feeling of "well were wet anyway" LOL. One of the joys of hiking in the redwoods (where I worked) in the rain was it brought out the wildlife in a major way. Have a wonderful week and much love
Hi Jymn, nice to hear of your hiking experiences! Thanks for your friendship!
Yup, been there with the rain and more times than I would like to admit. Just part of the fun or at least that is how you have to look at it.
That was a really cool hike. Ruins! Check. Petroglyphs! Check. Private beach! Even bigger check. Thanks for taking us along.
Hey Michael, yeah... you're going to hit those rainy days. No avoiding them if you get out a lot. Thankfully, as you noted, it was still a great day. Enjoy your weekend!
That was a fun trail with great history and rain forest scenery. You both have such joyful spirits…they shine through the rain!
Much appreciated, James!
Hi! I watched your video while in St. John this week and it really helped me prepare for this hike as a less-than-average hiker. 😂 Thanks for sharing!!!
Really glad to hear that! Glad you had a nice trip!
My Family did this hike in 2018, we took the trail to Lameshur Bay. I found out I was going to be a Grandfather on this hike and we also heard the rare mating call of the blonde barking tree frog….it was a hike never to be forgotten❤
Wow, can understand how special this hike must have been to you! Great memories!
Happy 25th anniversary to you both and we just celebrated out Ruby (40 years) anniversary. Great please to go, although it looked a bit different to when you normally go. Bit of history, as well as a good trail to follow, not used to seeing you guys in the rain - you sure you were not in the UK lol! Cheers Alan
haha! Thankfully it was very warm and the rain was somewhat refreshing. Congrats on 40! For us, today is the actual day. 6/15/96.
What a cool hiking experience! The environment, the rain, the views! Great video!
Really appreciate that!
Hahaha, I’ve done so many trails where you like how you start out going down and it’s nice - and then you realize you need to go back up. I am really starting to like looking at pertroglyphs. Interesting to see the way they expressed themselves. That was a lot of rain that came down! Glad to see you were both in good spirits even after the rain!
Hey Josh, yeah, made the best of it. We had nowhere to seek shelter... just needed to hike back out! Take care!
COOOL Video, thank you for posting this. We are going to give this a shot April 2022 !!
Great to hear! My wife and I really enjoyed that trail. Save some energy for the hike back up - it will make you work near the end! Enjoy!
The Virgin Islands National Park is a beautiful and romantic destination to celebrate your Silver Anniversary. Hiking on a tropical trail with petroglyphs and an old sugar cane factory would be so different and awesome; compared to where I hike, in my home State of Arizona... Thank you Randy and Julie; God Bless you both !! ... Robin
Hey Robin, we were surprised at how easy it was to visit this place. A 4-hour direct flight from NJ and they use US money and speak English. God bless you, brother!
Thanks for the vid! Hubby and I are going to St. John at the end of October for our 33rd and can’t wait!
Happy to hear that. Have a super trip! :)
Honestly like it when unexpected things like rain happened on a trail as long as it's not a bad storm. Those millipedes that you seen climbing the tree when it rains in North Georgia they come out of the woods and thousands of them cover the road. Thanks for sharing!
Good words, Nick! Those experiences often make for the best memories. ...Like the flat tire we experienced last week after hiking Mt. St. Helens! :)
Happy 25 Anniversary Julie and Randy 👩❤️👨
When we’re in love ...we’re in love everywhere...even in the rain ! 🥰
Lovely place for a hike the beach was so beautiful! 👌
Have a great weekend
H&S 👩❤️👨🌈🇨🇦
Good words, my friend! Thank you!

Welcome 😉👍
This is a fantastic trail. I was blown away by the final view. Great video.
Glad you got to enjoy this gem!
I enjoy watching your videos when planning trips to national parks in the states. While researching for my trip to USVI I came across this one. I can't tell you how happy I am to see you did the one trail I really want to do!!!!!!!!
Really enjoyed reading that Salvi! Thank you! Hope you are able to experience this trail.
It’s not cold it’s refreshing... now it’s rain isn’t bad.. it’s refreshing. Positivity almost always.
Right on, my friend!
What a fantastic way to share your anniversary! Such fun along the Reef bay to the sugar mill- we did this hike on our honeymoon back in 2006 ♡♡♡
So cool to hear you guys have been out there... and on your honeymoon!
Hi America's Parks! Great video. I spent my teenage years 1980- 1985 living on St.Thomas. A friend and I took the ferry over to St.John and my mom dropped us off at the same trail head (reef bay) in 1983. Saw same stuff you did and it was an awesome experience. So cool to see it again in your video. Lots of millipedes, yeah they are slightly poisonous but never heard of anybody dying from them. Hermit crabs, lizards galore. It amazing how the deer just move around in that thick brush easily. Thanks for the video! Ya mon stay dry ☺️
Enjoyed reading the comment, Michael! Glad the video brought back some fond memories. We had a really nice time in St. John. It must have been wonderful to spend 5 years on the Virgin Islands.
interesting ruins and amazing they built all that so far out in the jungle.. nice beach and Fun jungle hike! hey like you said it is a rain forest/ you got the Full experience!! thanks so much for taking us with you
Thanks, Thorn! Hope you are enjoying your week!
Nice and fun video. Thank for sharing.
Much appreciated!
Randy, another nice video with you and Julie on St. John. I liked the petroglyphs the best, and I always enjoy getting to the beach at the end of the trail. Have hiked in the warm tropical summer rain before, but not as wet as you got. THANK YOU FOR TAKING US ALONG ON YOUR JOURNEY, . . . Mike
Hey Mike, couldn't have gotten any wetter! Probably our favorite activity on the island. Though tough to beat the beaches!
That trail looked fantastic…cools ruins, petroglyphs, & views. Happy Anniversary 🥂🍾
Thanks, Renee!
Enjoying your continuing adventures at Virgin Islands National Park! Had to laugh as you were eating your half melted, reconstituted protein bar (in the rain)! Always find the histories you share at the different places you visit! Hope you have a great summer, Randy and Julie!!
Much appreciate, Mark! So nice to document these memories and grateful others find them enjoyable to watch! Take care!
Thanks for making a much more detailed video of this particular hike. Look like a bit of a challenging hike especially on the way back up but seeing the ruins and having your own private beach seem totally worth it. Thanks for sharing another adventure brother!
Thanks, buddy! Hope all is well with you. Just returned from a great trip out in WA.
I love the Virgin Islands.. went to the National park few years back
Nice to hear you've been there, Jessy! Special place!
Happy Anniversary to you! Julie - you rock!
Thanks so much, Heather!
Half melted ( soggy) protein bars are the greatest. Great stuff.
Right on! :)
Hello America's Park's😊😊😊, WOW so much rain hiking the trails and the rain didn't bother you.😊😊😊 Such a beautiful place! Great video👍👍👍!
Hey Al, grateful for your kind words! Hope you are enjoying your week!
Hello America's Park's😊😊😊, so happy for you both on a wonderful trip to the Virgin Islands National Park. My son and I took a long road trip from RI to Miami, FL. Here are the national parks that we visited: Dry Tortugas and Key West, Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, Congaree National Park( one of the newest parks in SC ), and...New River Gorge National Park & Preserve as well as Hawks Nest State Park. This was an amazing road trip! I will be driving to Big Bend National Park in October. I will make sure that we are wearing America's Park's teashirts😊😊😊! Looking forward to seeing what's next...maybe, Rainbow Bridge, National Monument.
Happy 25th Anniversary 🥰
Thank you! 25 years!
Beautiful beach! Was that Cinnamon Bay by chance?
Sure was! Actually it was Reef Bay, or more precisely Genti Bay at the end of the trail. The 900 foot elevation change going up made you work!
So beautiful!!
Sure was! Thanks for watching!
Loved the hike, thanks! Bummer there were no mangoes!
Right on... that would have been nice!
Happy 25th anniversary to the two of you. Glad that you guys had a great hike, even if it was raining.
Appreciate that, Bianca!
Should’ve done the Ram Head Trail as well! It was so gorgeous when I went in December!
I know... Wanted to catch the sunrise there, but just couldn't fit it in the schedule. Hopefully a return trip.
Very fun video with you and your Julie the adventure gal👍With the success of your utube channel , what one place is your favorite travel area? What area really stands out for you?🌟
Hey Brooke, tough to answer that one as they are all so unique and special. But if I had to choose... think I'd say Southern Utah.
Happy Anniversary!! We celebrated our 25th in December!
Congratulations to both of you as well, Carolyn!
Happy Anniversary!!! Is this your first national park outside of the continental US?
Thanks, and yes... Looking at Alaska next summer.
Have you ever had a too close for comfort moment with a wild animal on a hike? (Besides donkeys)
Thankfully, nothing serious.
👍😍
Thanks!
Where did you get the trail map?
Didn't go to the Visitor Center so I believe it was off the Internet. It's only one simple trail, but finding the trailhead was a little tricky.
Was the rain warm?
Yeah, so with the warm temps it was kind of refreshing.
There is nothing poisonous in st Thomas St. John's
Good to know! What a beautiful place!
Do Not pet or feed the donkeys. many have been killed by cars because tourist feed them. People have been hurt in the accidents.
Thanks for the words to the viewers/potential visitors, David.
