Thanks for the feedback! I enjoyed meeting all the locals. Everyone was extremely nice and curious the entire route. It gave me a better understanding of the country and made me realize almost everyone is kind on a one on one basis.
I enjoyed that part because I haven't been exposed to the reservations a lot. I wish I could have explored more but they were mostly closed to outside visitors.
so glad you liked new mexico and albuquerque. dont fear the green chiles, they are delicious! cool you stayed at hotel zazz - thats right by my regular bike commute in town!
I hadn't spent much time in New Mexico before so I really enjoyed the scenery because it was so different than what I'm used to. Nob Hill was a lot of fun and every fan of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul wants to visit Albuquerque lol.
Hey Bruce, I'm really enjoying the trip so far. I have been contemplating a trans-America trip for a while but I wasn't really thrilled with all of the mountain passes from the regular routes through the Rockies or the Arizona mountains further to the South. The Old Route 66 route seems to be a pretty decent compromise. I would probably start in DC up to Pittsburgh and across Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois to pick up the trail in St. Louis. Can you tell me when you started your trip in Delaware? I'm assuming it was late summer but it was hard to tell. I will probably go with a tubeless tire setup to mitigate all those wire punctures that are so common when riding the roads and highways. Damn those steel-belted tires. I am glad you were able to work out your axle issue on the Priority. That's the only downside I have seen to that bike is the proprietary axles. I know Ryan Van Duzer forgot to pack his front axle when traveling and was lucky enough to be bailed out by another 600X owner who loaned him theirs. The only replacements have to come from NY. That's a tough fix in the middle of the SouthWest. I'm looking forward to the rest of your series and seeing you arrive in Santa Monica. Cheers
Hi Jeff, Thanks! I started on August 1 and it sounds like your route is very similar to mine (except I wanted to slip up to Bettendorf where I grew up). Route 66 solves the high mountain issue. It wasn't always the best road for cycling because it was designed for cars and it's a lot of Interstate riding but I was pretty hardened by then lol . I figure heading west took an extra 3 weeks because of the incessant strong headwinds but the other direction would not have worked for me that time of year.
Bruce, Thank you for sharing your cross country bike adventure across the U.S. Didn't know you were from Bettendorf. Have you been back to the state for RAGBRAI? This is on my bucket list and hoping to accomplish the ride some day.
Yes, RAGBRAI is always a lot of fun. This year will be my 12th RAGBRAI and will be on future episodes of Bruce Bikes America. I recommend just doing a day or two if you can't do the whole week.
@@brucebikesamerica2698 This will be my 3rd RAGBRAI. I do the whole week or nothing :) Doing the cross country bike trip across the U.S. is on my bucket list and I hope to accomplish it one day.
People often think that me riding my bike on the highway around me is dangerous but in most cases I get a super wide shoulder. I feel safer on the highways. I've been hit by a car in town twice. Once on my bike and the second time on a skateboard. Both times I was in the right and had legal right of way.
A bike with wider tires is certainly the safer choice with fewer potential problems and more route options so I recommend, it, especially if you are self supported. The downside is you will be slower and take longer than skinny tires. After 19 years of cycling on a road bike and always trying to go faster I have a new appreciation for gearing down and enjoying the sites and scenery :)
Bruce, have you never seen a praying mantis? A (maybe not so) fun fact. The female sometimes eats its mate after mating, like the black widow spider does.
@@brucebikesamerica2698 Ahhhh. I thought you must’ve been sitting in your tent editing videos on your laptop as your road across the country 😂 can’t wait for the next one. This has been a great adventure series.
Cool. Thanks for interviewing the locals. It really helps you get a good feel

Thanks for sharing your fantastic adventure. You've inspired us to add cycling Route 66 to our list of future adventures.
Thanks for watching and you will get your share of kitschy nostalgia on Route 66 and the people are great!
Having cycled the northern and southern routes across America when I was a kid 40 plus years ago, I need to do middle America in retirement.
Ty. My problem is this is for a move..so I cannot as easily leave my road bike behind..also me road bike is equipped for the trip
Nice to see the res. Been awhile.

Hello ,im curious what month you came through Missouri? I am planning a trip and want first hand info ,thanks for sharing.
I went through Missouri the middle 2 weeks of September and it was the hottest part of the journey. I assume the temps were way above average.
Thank you , looking forward to your next video, very much .

Thanks for commending. Interstate cycling isn't very pleasant, but I agree it's pretty safe.
Planning a bike trip Albuquerque to houston..look like a bit of a rough ride on a road bike wondering if I'd be better taking mountain bike

Thanks for letting me know what it is. I have seen them, but it's been awhile. Sounds like a big price to pay for a little fund lol
I am hoping this is not your last bike trip. How much weight did you lose?
Thanks. I plan to keep the site going with future trips on the Florida Coast to Coast Trail and RAGBRAI being next.
I was hoping to lose 35 pounds but ended up loosing 24 pounds.
Can’t find the next episodes after this one
Hi Marcus, there is a new episode about every 2 weeks. This is the current episode, but I'll get to Santa Monica!
