there is one moment i will always remember with old freddy because it was so sad yet so funny at the same time. i was on coldwind doing a generator when all of a sudden i started getting put to sleep. i decided to commit to the generator and hope to get a skillcheck to wake up and maybe get injured. The very second i was put into the dream world and freddy swung at me i failed a skillcheck and woke up allowing his hit to harmlessly pass through me. I couldn't stop laughing at the time but man just looking back on it thats sad.

The original idea was actually kinda cool, I just wish they did not screw it up so badly. Imagine if he had to put people to sleep, and they would be hindered and incapacitated during this time or if he had some way of making them exposed in the dreamworld, or some way to kill them much like condemned on the Onryo. Idk, the idea of them only seeing you or able to interact with you when asleep was kinda cool.

I saw a really good rework to Freddy on Reddit I don’t remember the persons name I’m just saying this isn’t my original idea
Freddy now has two modes (much like old doctor) in both modes he can still M1 so don’t worry
Dream Master mode: Freddy now pulls survivors into the dream world like he used to while survivors are falling asleep they suffer from the incapacitated status effect and are slowed by 15% once a survivor is asleep Freddy can attack them. survivors also suffer from the same debuffs as before (50% slower action speed)
Dream warrior mode: press the secondary power button to switch to dream warrior mode where Freddy can switch between dream pallets and snares (like clowns bottles)
Waking up: survivors can no longer wake up from failing a skillcheck survivors now need to go to their dream clock or allow a survivor to wake them up which takes 4 seconds and gets 4 second longer each time a survivor wakes you up

Its worth noting the dream transition phasing. Good players could use this to mindgame survivors at tiles landing hits and then combining that with aura reading for very effective hit and run. I do belive a whole 3 people realised this was possible which i think is a shame due to how unique it was. It was essentially a much stronger version of sadakos phasing with a full 1.7 second period of invisibility before becoming real after a short period, which became almost instant with sheep block.

Too bad only few people learned this. And i learned this from some friends tried the hit and run strat. And boom way more success. Personally i think the community is very much at fault here for being so narrowminded to not realizing freddy’s strength. If you were to ask me after i started maining hit and run freddy. I would say old freddy would be better than his current version. He could just tale the game hostage. Take away resources until survivors just died cause they couldn’t do anything. Freddy had the best stall in the game and was the one killer who didn’t need ruin if played hit and run. Also newer perks like lethal pursuer today would be fucking broken on him.

I actually mained OG Freddy when he was first released and did quite well with him.
Basically, his base kit was, survivors could not see you unless they were asleep. Period. If you were awake and Freddy was close, you could hear the lullaby and that was about it. It wasn't directional, so you really have very little clue where Freddy is coming from. Once asleep, (which took 7 seconds as was mentioned in the video) you can see Freddy and instead of a lullaby, you hear a Terror Radius like normal. However, Freddy's base kit Terror Radius was very small at 16 meters. And again, if you were asleep and outside Freddy's radius, he could see your aura. Not only that but Freddy had add-ons he could run that would reduce the chance of receiving skill checks considerably. We're talking like healing or doing a gen for 30-45+ seconds straight before seeing a skill check. It effectively made it so that the only 'reliable' way to wake up was from another non-sleeping survivor, effectively giving the sleeping survivor a massive and all but permanent speed reduction on healing, gen repairs etc.
So, the key to playing Freddy was to simply run Monitor and Abuse. That was about it. It dropped your Terror Radius from 16m to ridiculously small 8m. You effectively had perma-wall hacks on sleeping survivors, so long as they were more than 8 meters away. It was like permanent Scratched Mirror Myers only you moved at 115 m/s and the fact that Freddy is a little dude, making him harder to spot over obstacles. I actually truly enjoyed playing Freddy when he first released because it incentivized a more 'sneak up and ambush' playstyle rather than the 'let's get in a chase and loop the killer as long as possible' playstyle we're all too familiar with.
I did exceptionally well with Freddy in those first 2 weeks, even against good teams because of my approach to how I played him. I would intentionally drop chase and then come at survivors in ways they never expected because I could see them and they had no clue if you abandoned them completely (which I sometimes did) or if I was simply stalking them outside of Terror Radius range. And, by the time they heard the heartbeat, they had very little time to react to it because of how small it was and more often than not, it was too late and they'd take a hit or go down. It wasn't until after he got his nerf 2 weeks later that effectively ruined him as a killer. The biggest nerf didn't even have the most outcry, which was his nerfed Terror Radius, going from 16m to 24m. That told me that the majority of people playing Freddy were not playing him the same way I did because I knew that was the biggest nerf by far. I could no longer stalk survivors close by. I had to be over 16m out to see their auras and that assuming I was running Monitor and Abuse, making that ability worthless. And that was definitely when Freddy became undoubtedly the worst killer in the game. Up until that point though, he really wasn't that bad and I very much enjoyed playing him.

Honestly was so disappointed they reworked him to the snorefest he is now. He was weak but still much more interesting than most killers even today. If they could incorporate some of his reworked abilities into the old system of pulling them into the Dreamworld I think he would be perfect. Maybe have survivors become incapacitated whilst transitioning into the dream world. Plus since not as many people run self care anymore the whole skillcheck thing wouldn't be an issue.

There were a bunch of things old Freddy had that were kinda neat. For example, awake survivors could not bodyblock you on your way to the hook because they didn't collide with you. It was also very difficult to flashlight save against Freddy while awake because you couldn't see his body. Sadako is kind of new old Freddy now, both with how some parts of her power work and how weak she is in chase.

  • @SadToffee
    @SadToffee 10 месяцев назад +8

The idea of dragging people into the dream world is so interesting! I think if surivors had to enter the dream world to help other survivors who are already there that would have been really interesting, and if the dream world were a proper threat, something really dangerous, it could have been really cool. Having to weigh whether or not to take that risk, because if you don't your teammate(s) in the dream world are screwed, but if you do enter the dream world you're giving freddy exactly what he wants.
This would definitely encourage tunneling, but in an interesting way in my opinion, as it makes tunneling a consequence rather than just a choice, I think having the survivors disappear after the unhook for a bit would be interesting. And having an aura reveal mechanic would allow those survivors to run away without having a moment of respite, knowing that freddy could come for them at any time, because they're in HIS world. He can see them everywhere.
I think behaviour really missed the mark with not only his OG design, but his current design as well. And I wish they had gone down a more interesting route.

Even though he's better now, I still prefer the "feel" of his old kit. Holding M2 to put them to sleep felt so good to do.
How I would have reworked Freddy/Nightmare would have been the following power:
The Nightmare begins the match in the Dream World.
Survivors who are not Dreaming cannot see The Nightmare or his red stain while he is in the Dream World.
Survivors who are Dreaming can see The Nightmare only while he is in the Dream World.
Survivors who are not Dreaming cannot see Survivors that are Dreaming while The Nightmare is in the Dream World.
Survivors who are Dreaming can see other Survivors normally, even if they themselves cannot be seen.
The Nightmare cannot attack Survivors that are not Dreaming while he is in the Dream World, and he cannot attack Survivors that are Dreaming while he is not inside the Dream World.
When The Nightmare injures a Survivor within the Dream World, both he and the Survivor are sent back to the Real World.
While a Survivor is in the Dream World, they cannot interact with Generators, Totems, Chests, or the Exit Gates.
_After 20 seconds of Dreaming, unhooking another survivor, or healing another survivor by one health state, the Dreaming Survivor will awaken and return to the Real World. This timer pauses if the Dreaming Survivor is being chased by The Nightmare._
*M2 Ability:* The Nightmare lifts up his right hand and, after a short delay, causes all Survivors within 8/12/16 meters of him not currently Dreaming to begin Dreaming based on how long this ability was held. This ability has a 30 second cooldown. _While holding the ability button, The Nightmare is Hindered by 35%._
*CTRL Ability:* While against a wall or otherwise solid object, this ability can be activated. When activated, The Nightmare will walk into the terrain, shifting between the Dream World and the Real World. The transition is instantaneous, however, The Nightmare can choose to traverse freely within the terrain to connected areas before exiting using the Space Button. Additionally, The Nightmare may instead choose to attack from the terrain, exiting it in the process. _While inside of terrain, The Nightmare's aura cannot be seen._
This kit would accentuate the Dream World aspect of his theme. When he's in the Dream World, he cannot be seen by Survivors who are not Dreaming, but he also can't harm them unless he reveals himself or he brings them into the Dream World. To switch between worlds, he would have to walk into a wall and use the secondary power button (CTRL on keyboard) to walk into it, giving him the ability to freely move around in that wall or other similar object (like a tree) and even do a sneak attack from within it. It would take planning to do the sneak attack though, as the attack rules still apply and if you go into the Dream World while chasing someone in the Real World and try to attack them, it won't land; visa-versa for going from the Dream World to the Real World and trying to hit a Dreaming Survivor.
It would help him segregate the Survivors from eachother for short spans of time, giving him built in slow-down, stealth, and map traversal tools.

His hit and run power was intense, and he was a king of game delay- holding long games was his thing.
Maybe a mix of the new and old?
Invisible at all times and have to drag survivors to sleep, but it takes 3 seconds- they are visible if outside his terror radius after 20 seconds, and he can still teleport to gens and lay traps? Makes him a bit more like the old while still being good enough?

I remember original freddy. His coolest bit was that if you're asleep, your aura is shown to him if you're not within immediate range, and you could just hold the dream beam as you go until it activates to locate a survivor. But yeah, it was quite painful.

As a freddy main, that already mained freddy when he was at his sharp hand joe time. My opinion on snares or fake pallets is pretty simple.
Objectively i think dream snares are more powerful than pallets. There are certain maps where you would have to break a pallet in order to set up a dream pallet. so dreampallets have the disadvantage on many maps that you need to run stuff like brutal in order to keep up with the survivors who just run from pallet to pallet and throw them down instantly with no counterplay nor anti-loop.
That beeing said, i play with fake pallets. :D
They are much worse than the dream snares BUT the biggest factor about the dream pallets is the wonderful moment of survivors that are injured, running to the next pallet they see, feeling so safe that you cant catch them while you know this pallet is fake. these lovely moments make me take dream pallets.
Dream pallets however could have a huge impact on the game if they were slightly stronger, like removing the cap of only having 7 dream pallets. that would make the endgame stronger. but survivors will found out the counterplay to not use pallets in the endgame anymore to loop.
Thats my opinion about the dream snare or fake pallets situation with freddy.
    edit: darn.

I had no chance, they're was like 2-3 hooks in the entire map, they were always together so when you down one you had to immediatly sleep the others or else they would start to mend the downed survivor and it made you unable to pick it up, that was an awful problem and what really pissed me off with old Freddy, you down someone and if a survivor started helping the guy you couldnt stop him if he was not sleeping and 7 secondes was enough time to heal a downed survivor.

    Crazy power Idea: Freddy-Pallets.
The texture of all undropped pallets on the map are changed to freddys skin for dreaming survivors. And they have freddy's face on it.
While they are not dropped, Freddy can teleport and become a Freddy-pallet and if a survivor is nearby, he can injure them.
This forces dreaming survivors to either avoid pallets or drop them early, leaving a little bit of counter play for the cost of resources.

  • @Sinrix

What i believe they could have done to freddy was make him invisible, takes 5 seconds to put someone in a dream state, only make him able to do so if a player doesn’t move 15 ft from where it started in those 5 seconds (the survivor being unaware they are being put to sleep) then freddy gains a movement speed (he can only attack players in dream state although he can put multiple people in dream state) taking someone out of dream state takes 5 seconds , if everyone is in dream state it takes 10 seconds, after being downed you get out of dream state, have some passive where he gets to tier 3 after putting enough people in dream states where he unlocks teleporting to gens/ and tier 3 being everyone is now in sleep state for the rest of game

I have yet to see another killer get nuked so heavily in my time playing. He went from low A tier and extremely common to basically D tier with very little to recommend him. Range add-ons were mandatory for old Freddy. Double range add-ons made his reach somewhere around 30 meters or so. Basically just scan the map putting people to sleep. Since Freddy could see survivors outside his terror radius, he could keep tabs on them while chasing another survivor. He could then put that survivor failing a skill check to sleep almost immediately.

    • @dodang_9147
      @dodang_9147 2 года назад

it was other add-on were mandatory for him. He had these add-on that reduce skill-check chance by large amount. He did not need range add-on because with monitor&abuse. he had 16 meter terror radius, it worked like his lullaby. You could easily approach any survivor to put them to sleep, but with 7 second sleep timer and 3 second slowdown, you had to leave them alone. Chase another survivor put them to sleep, see the aura of survivor you previously slept who is trying wake up and now sneak up on them while reading their aura.

I really do hope that Freddy gets a rework that will make him strong again but not too strong, because if they make him too strong, we're generally repeating history where survivors are gonna complain again. However, although Freddy is weak yet he is still pretty decent at the game, ever since I started playing DBD, he was my first main to use and I still continue to use him time to time. He's not a simple a killer to use, it takes strategy to use him where to place snares to help during chase, and using your teleportation power to traverse or use it during chase if a survivor is approaching the gen to down them quickly. Even faking the teleport can sometimes work, the problem with Freddy is his addons are really weak, yet he still has decent gameplay, it just takes strategy
