Hello again! I hope this finds you all healthy and happy. Life is not back to anything resembling normal yet, but I’ve been working on a handful of covers and I’m excited to share this one with you. I’ve wanted to give one of The Weeknd’s songs the Bardcore treatment for a while now, and finally landed on “Save Your Tears”.
The Art (With some adjustments):
Nicklaus Glockenden I
Saint Maurice and His Companions
Illumination. Missal of Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg (572 ff.). Folio 437 sup v .
W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research, Harvard University.
Lyrics:
I saw thee dancing from the gallery
Thou lookest gay when I am not with thee
But then my presence caught thee by surprise
A single teardrop falling from thine eyes
I know not why I run away
I make thee cry when I run away
With no portent how could I divine
That our love would wither on the vine?
And now I find no favour in thine eyes
I am more ghost than someone to despise
I know not why I run away
I make thee cry when I run away
Though I wandered once, I wish to stay
Save thy tears for another
Save thy tears for another day
Save thy tears for another day
‘Twas my folly in that month of May
When I vowed to thee that I would stay
But ask me not why swans in winter fly
For they can no more bide with thee than I
I know not why I run away
For thou shalt cry when I run away
Though I wandered once I wish to stay
Save thy tears for the morrow
And if it pleases thee, send me away
I would spare thee any sorrow
Save thy tears for another day
Save thy tears for another day
I know not why I run away
For thou shalt cry when I run away
Pray, embrace me for I wish to stay
Save thy tears for another
Save thy tears for another day

It's so beautiful I wanted to cry but the song told me not to.
Nice
And that makes me want to cry more.

The amount of work that goes into these covers from the instruments to the art to the singing is just crazy
Thank you, it really means a lot. This took me longer than I’d like to admit. 😅
@@Hildegardvonblingin your work shows. Your voice is beautiful. The instrumentals wonderful.
What's to be ashamed about time? Talent always takes time
not to mention the lyrics. it's hard to change modern language into medieval language and make it sound this good

The old instruments really make the vocals stand out , such brilliant voice

"Though I wandered once, I wish to stay." The lyricism!! My lady thou hast outdone yourself again.
Thyself, not yourself 😁
Oh, I didn't realise just how sweet and sad this song was until now. The original is such a bop that you just dance to it. This version made me go back and actually listen to the lyrics.
If you learn the lyrics due to this version, then sing along to the original in public, it's gonna be funny :)
I'll sing dance both versions
What do You mean by original? THIS is the original
@@MilornDiester exactly what I was thinking
The version with Ariana--er, the Lady of Grande--also adds some sad lyrics.
The “Save thy tears for another day” makes this a billion times better.

It amazes me that these covers which would be amusing as a joke--given the seeming absurdity of modern pop sung in this style--manage to be so much more, usually more lovely than the originals. Jolly well done.
The power of Olde English Poetry.

Harmonizing with wind instruments is the best kind of harmonizing.
You’re 100% correct
I am so very disappointed that there are so few songs on this channel but.... then i realize..... Perfection takes time!
The density of the orchestration made me want to list the instruments I'm hearing: hurdy gurdy with trompette, viola da gamba consort (bass and treble at least), harp, autoharp, frame drum, zills/tambourine, recorders. I hear another plucked string instrument that might be the gambas, another harp, or a lute. A bell tree. Then there's another plucked string instrument at 2:46 that I can't place... it sounds a bit like a clavichord or it's the autoharp. It's gorgeous orchestration that obviously took a lot of careful attention. I love how they use the hurdy gurdy's trompette for the rise into the final chorus at 3:01; it's the perfect marriage between renaissance frottola and EDM.
Another masterpiece. Sir End of Week can be proud.
Ooh, nice one
*Nd 😁
Omg🤣

"Thou lookest gay "
Wow that's talent you've discribed me in just three words

I feel seen
i was confused why is this called out instead with „look so happy“ lol.
@@MisterYeko Gay is an old word for happy/cheerful
in the original the chorus gives a very futuristic and dreamy feel but like this it has a completely different effect and it's magical i just can't describe it
I agree the original were more fun and sad at the same time while Hildegard version sing like a tragic poetry between a knight and a maiden.
You continue to be the only person doing this kind of thing that I find not only enjoyable but completely enchanting. Most medieval style or "bardcore" covers feel like gimmicks, but the immense depth of knowledge, talent and effort you put into every song and video are so immediately clear. I look forward to this song joining the ranks of all your others that play in my head on repeat. ❤️
@Bowie Twombly - Forsooth!
I generally prefer original bardcore works, but these covers are a glaring exception
Agreed. Her education in medieval art, culture, language, and music is **sooo** much more present in her productions than in any others. Blingen's a true gem.

I like that somehow Bardcore spread to historical fashion channels and other channels exploring historical trends.
Ah, a voice born of the heavens has delivered us yet another glorious tune!
Squire: "The good sir at the middle, is he a black knight?"
Other Squire: "Aye, he's called 'Sir Thy 6th day"
With each song, I simply cannot comprehend how your voice can be so powerful, clear, and pure. There's nothing there that can mask any mistakes or roughness, and yet you just kill it. It's as much as a testament to your recording and mixing ability as it is to your singing talent. I'll let you in on a secret: For most of these songs, I'm listening to the original version for the first time just so I can hear your cover. The quality of these is unreal. Stunning.
If you put an album together, I would buy it instantly! Your music brings me joy. Thank you.
Idk if she could make money off them bc they're covers. Copyright laws are kind of iffy about stuff like that

"Does Al get permission to do his parodies?
Al does get permission from the original writers of the songs that he parodies. While the law supports his ability to parody without permission, he feels it’s important to maintain the relationships that he’s built with artists and writers over the years. Plus, Al wants to make sure that he gets his songwriter credit (as writer of new lyrics) as well as his rightful share of the royalties."

Lady Von Blinging should cross the great sea in the year of our Lord 2022 and tour the courts of europe. I for one would pay three chickens and a cow to attend such event.
Only but three chickens and a cow? What scandal! That’s nary a feast for a bard as great as Lady von Blingin’. My family would gladly pay two cows and a horse for as as mirthful a lady such as Lady von Blingin’, to attend the courts of the high Queen of Denmark. We pray for thy graceful attendance, my Lady.
Tis high praise indeed but forsyth she has not the letter nor the blessing of the high king for such a sojourn and therefore must politely decline such forward insinuations

I love the medieval version of The Weeknd and how they stuck with his aesthetic and added the little bandage on his face in the picture lol.
Un*Abel* to keep it together for this bardcore BOP
I see what you did there 😉
0:55 the emoting is truly excellent musicianship; adds feeling without pulling you out of the rich melody. And the choice of St Maurice is brilliant. More layers to your work than an ogre. Truly the Sibyl of the Rhyme.
Queen of Bardcore. Hands down. None but she hath the perfect combination of a gorgeous voice, period lyrics, and quality instrumentation.
I'm so glad you keep making these. Bardcore has become such an essential part of the music that I listen to (I love acoustic everything) and there are so few covers of popular songs in an acoustic format. Out of all of them, yours are my favorites. I hope you'll keep making more of these for many years to come.
Thank you, that’s so encouraging to hear! Sometimes I worry that it was just a fad, but I genuinely love making these and appreciate that people are still here to listen!
@@Hildegardvonblingin rest assured Bardcore is here to stay
@@Hildegardvonblingin The only thing that limits how much bardcore I listen to is the selection. Every time you and other creators add to the selection, I get to listen to it longer and more often. All things being equal, I would listen to bardcore as often as say, 80s pop or easy listening rock music.
@@dragonwithamonocle I totally get you. I get a lot of my desire for this sort of music met by listening to Faun or Loreena Mckennitt. But 80s pop is fire so I would never want to narrow the scope either! I’ve been tempted before to do an 80s flip of an actual medieval song just to mix it up.
10/10 have embraced bardcore and this channel specifically
